    Default nycturia and bedwetting

I was officially diagnosed with an OAB after an UDO, but the treatment with Vesicare seems to help during the day. At nighttime, I have to go at least twice what made me decide to start wearing diapers again. The first three months I always woke up, but lately this is no longer the case for the first wetting. But I wonder why I still wake up for the consequent wettings? Who has similar experiences?

I suffer from horrible nocturia. I wish I was a bedwetter. I wear diapers to bed anyway. I am so tired of waking up 10 times a night.

I wet a few times during the night but never wake up.

I almost always wet at night. Sometimes I am awake when it happens but the need to go does not wake me up.

I've suffered from OAB my whole life. I also suffer from night terrors and bedwetting. Usually, I wet in my sleep, but sometimes I'm just barely awake and vaguely aware that I'm wetting myself. It's common for those latter times to occur early in the morning.

There's a good reason for this. Most deep sleep (stage 4 Delta) takes place earlier in the night. For example, I might go to bed and suddenly wake up 3 hours later only to find myself soaked with no clue when that happened. Later and later in the night (or the wee hours of the morning) is when you transition from deep sleep to REM sleep. This is predominantly when you dream. It's also when you are more likely to wake suddenly from a dream, heart racing or wake and notice you are peeing through an erection (in the case of guys). REM sleep causes all sorts of active body processes and it is not a deep sleep, which is why you are more likely to notice yourself wetting.

Thanks Spaz, very insightful. I'm not sure, but the Vesicare finally started to work a few weeks ago and I only experience daytime urges once in a while. I think that this causes me to go less but more regularly, the last one at around 8 - 9pm. Even if I go to bed at 11pm, I don't feel the need to go. Perhaps the medicine is working too good and works contra productive for bedwetting

That's a good thing, in my mind. I was given a prescription for Vesicare about six years ago and, like the other anticholinergic medications could not handle the side effects. It also did not seem to work very well, but maybe, as you suggest, it takes time for that to happen. How long have you taken it and do you have side effects?

I'm not sure if this is considered night terrors or not but most of my adult life my bodies muscles don't shut down during an especially physical dream. One night I woke up on the floor next to my bed. I had hit my head very hard on something, probably the wall, and was in a lot of pain. That day I went to my doc and she sent me to a specialist who prescribed Clonazapam. I haven't had a problem since.

I'm on it since September last year, but only see it starting to work somewhere since the begin this year. My urologist confirmed that I have an OAB, so I must assume the medication works. I do think about stopping for a while to see if the urges come back and to be 100% sure it worked, but as I don't have any of the described side effects, not planning to do so in the near future.
