Thread: Running two video cards?

  1. #1

    Default Running two video cards?

Is is possible to run the on-bored video card with a pci card.

    The on-bored model is a Geforce6150SE nforce 430

My PCI card is a Geforce FX5500

Maybe you should use your video card more if it's 'bored'

Anyway, I don't see there being a problem, they're both NVIDIA cards, and I've seen computers with upwards of four video cards in them before (Though I dunno what they'd possibly need four for).

Your onboard will disable automatically when it detects a dedicated card.
Check your BIOS for an onboard video 'on' option.

Ok I looked in the bios and I can chose pci or on broad. I picked on board and pci wont kick in. In the device manager I see....

I have the nvidia drivers installed for the pci

it may not be possible to work something out on it, the onboard is usually designed to disable itself if a dedicated expansion slot device is added (pcie pci or for oldies agp)

generally speaking its not possible to run two different models in sync (sli for nvidia, crossfire for ati/amd). you can however run two varying models independently (eg 9800gt and 8800gtx) and set one to graphics and one to physx processing and still use them for multi-display perposes.

sorry, should have specified before, to run them together you need two cards, both with the same model number ( ie, a pair of 8800gtx)
as far as im aware there is no way to keep the onboard running while you have a card installed.
also fixed the previous post. w00t for late night posting XD

you should only be able to have the option of disabling the onboard once a dedicated card is installed. having that option doesn't necessarily mean that there is a workaround for having two different graphics processors running in tandem.
