    Default European Diapers

Why are the diapers offered in Europe so much better than American diapers?
My all time favorite diaper is Tena Slip Maxi which is very expensive to ship in from Europe. The Secure X-Plus and Bambino are great but are they made in the USA?

Lol for me it's exact opposite, I prefer US diapers but I guess it because I wear baby ones so they have size 7.

Your not missing out on much. The size seven arent much bigger than a six. I have some cruisers 7, but find I prefer luvs 6. The luvs crinkle more and smell amazing.

That's another thing Luvs, they're but just like pampers. In the UK your version of the active fit, cruisers, only go upto 5+ do I don't enjoy sesame street as much. I love elmo and cookie monster but only get them on the active fit :/

oh, bummer. Sorry to hear that. My only exposure to UK diapers is what I see on the diaper girl paysites. The pampers i see there look big, but I'm sure those models are tiny.

Yeah, for instance DiaperGal's FayeX is 5 foot 2 and 98 lbs.

    ModelMayhem.com - Faye X - Model - Sheffield, England, United Kingdom

She does a lot of modelling but never ever seems to mention her DiaperGal work. she must enjoy it immensely to have done it for so long but not include as a portfolio.

She must enjoy it or be embarassed by it? As much i would love to believe she enjoyed it, its probably the latter.

I think it has to do with who buys the bulk of diapers in these two regions. In america, hospitals and nursing homes etc buy more diapers than consumers. They want cheap diapers and lots of them so we get low quality but cheap diapers here in the states. Europe meanwhile it is up to people to buy their own diapers more often than not so their choice of diapers decides what is avaliable ie good quality but somewhat more expensive (cheaper overall if you take into account number of diapers per day, leaks, etc). With shipping however, quality diapers are not allways cost effective in the states. This is according to an article I read online about diaper quality, I'm not sure if it is true or not.

In Belgium, diapers are mostly sold by pharmacist or specialized stores in home-care. So they tend to follow the premium brands like Tena and Abena.
The supermarkets are not allowed to sell the complete range of the premium brands to protect the smaller stores.

Diapers, bought at specialised stores, are also partially or fully refunded by the health care system, if you have a doctors presciption.

So diapers of lesser quality don't stand a chance of getting a piece of the action.

I don't know either, but I would have thought it would be the other way round. In the US, where there's no health service, individuals often buy their own nappies in shops (although hospitals, etc. are always going to be the largest purchasers).

Do insurers buy them on behalf of clients or specify what brands are acceptable? If so, maybe the US market is more cost-sensitive...? Or maybe it's just that people who need to wear nappies are, statistically, much more likely to have a low income, and so find cheaper brands more appealing?

In the UK and rest of Europe, nappies are generally provided by the health service, so individuals rarely (if ever) buy their own nappies. As a result, it's not so much cost that's important, as the ratio of cost-to-performance. A hospital that keeps careful records of how many nappies it gets through wouldn't buy half-price ones if it will use three times as many (and increase nursing costs), because it will clearly see the impact on its balance sheets. A consumer who isn't keeping careful records might just see the lower price and think "why pay more?"...

So (again, I don't know) I would have thought any difference in product availability would be because America has more individual purchasers and Europe has more healthcare organisations as purchasers. Maybe....?!
