Default Don't Ask Don't Tell - It's really in suspended animation!

It's official, at least for the Navy. The CNO released a message talking about the consequences of the recent court case "Log Cabin Republicans v. United States" in the US District Court for the Central District of California. For those of you that don't know, that's the one where a federal judge issued an injunction barring the government from enforcing the DADT law pending appeal of the case. Sadly though, it isn't yet permanent, and the message contained the following:

So, DADT isn't completely dead, but it's getting closer. Here's hoping that the Ninth Circuit upholds the ruling quickly, and the Supreme Court doesn't drag it's feet in hearing it. Unless of course Congress gets it's act together and changes the law. That'd be the ideal, but it's Congress we are talking about here.

The ninth Circuit will uphold it thanks to most of them being very, very liberal from what it seems. As for the Supreme Court, If that are smart as they appear to be they will see there's really no justified reason why DADT exists. I also hope they expedite this case to the front considering it does reflect solely on national security.

My understanding is that during a war they could really care less about gays as they need every warm body they can find. Apparently it was that way for decades.

Okay, it's official. the Ninth circuit is either dumb and/or insane. Appeals court keeps military's 'don't ask, don't tell' policy for now | News10.net | Sacramento, California | News

So, perhaps they aren't liberal they just must be fucking stupid.

I love the last bit of the article too.. Obama wants it repealed, but only if he gets to sign it out. <_>

It's not that he wants to sign it, it's because legislative repeal is the best way to go about it. Many people don't know this, but the law that governs the military also makes sodomy a crime, and any court ruling (as LCR v. US is) would be narrowly constrained to DADT only. Congress would still have to change the law (Title 10 USC, Chap 64 925, if you want to look it up) to decriminalize homosexual acts, because homosexuals could still be put out for breaking the law if they have sex with a person of the same gender. (Or a blowjob, for that matter, even straight people. I could be charged with committing sodomy, if you follow the specific wording of the law)
