    Default Cot-like 'Day-Beds'

Many people here would probably enjoy the experience of sleeping in a cot, but as it would need to be adult sized, few people ever do. But, my interest was innately drawn to a cot-like piece of furniture I saw in a mainstream chain store while researching sofa-bed solutions recently. I'm talking about 'day-beds'. Some of them look like single bed size three-sided cots. Or is it just me? Here's a link to one from the IKEA website.

    IKEA | Guest, bunk & loft beds | Daybeds | MELDAL | Day-bed frame

    And another:

    IKEA | Guest, bunk & loft beds | Daybeds | HEMNES | Day-bed frame with 2 drawers

I was surprised to see something so cot-like, but then maybe I'm looking at things from a clouded perspetive. What do other people think about the cot-like-ness of day-beds?

P.S...No, I don't work for IKEA! Although, I'm starting to wish I did - might get staff discount

Eh, i can kinda sorta see where you'd think they were crib/cot-like.

Looks more like a really uncomfortable sofa to me...

Nice idea, but it wouldn't be the same IMO. The bars wouldn't be that high, and you'd know there was that open size. If you were going to buy something and spend that much money, you may as well go all the way and find an abdl furniture vendor.

They do, 15% off the price, at least in my area. I worked at the local Ikea store a few months ago
I was lucky, when I was there, they were rebuilding the store and I got the opportunity to buy a lot of stuffs from the showroom with a 65% discount!

Yeah, I have to agree with that. I think it's trying to be both a sofa and bed, but not quite being either. I guess imagine it with some cushions, and yeah...it's an uncomfortable sofa...

That is also true. Although (minus the mattress) the metal one is only 65 - pretty cheap for a bed, and nothing compared to a specialised AB cot, I'd imagine. And...you get away with having it around without visitors asking questions...right? Or perhaps wrong. I'm not quite 'into' ABness enough to consider a getting hold of a real adult cot, but I guess I like the cot-ness of a 'normal' piece of furniture, as though you're getting away with something. I maybe might add here, I was looking to buy a sofa-bed when I found these, so was already expecting to part with some cash.

Awesome! I wish I lived near an IKEA, I might see if there were vacancies!

That looks pretty comfy, and it seems like I could make my own out of wood. I prefer hard surfaces (which is why I'm the only one at summer camp who prefers the wood beds they give you to my actually bed at home), so a covered piece of plywood with a pad on it seems very enjoyable to me. Throw some bars on the side and bam, custom bed.

I used to sleep on a day bed. My step dad used to make fun of me and say it was a crib... Especially with rubber sheets on the bed and such. u.u; He was a dick, but yeah, they're kind of crib like.

Good point. Because I'm lazy, I have to say I didn't actually look at the price. At 65 it's not bad at all.
