I've known this for a while and mention it whenever someone mentions giving themselves a liberal dusting of talc. Myself, I don't even remember what war used on me, but the Gold Bond baby powder—it's cornstarch with zinc oxide as its protectant if I'm remembering right—puts me in the perfect state. So it's what I use. It keeps my skin from becoming painful and raw.

My reference to vaccinations was an reference to how public media are used by less informed people to spread their fears and doubt. People that are not so well informed will take the safest option, just to be sure. I like it how well balanced the opinions on adisc are.

When my wife and I started our diaper hobby, we played with baby powder. At some point we had to go to the doctor to treat her fungal infections resulting from the powder. Thats when we stopped using powder.

That powder is not really needed. For female hygiëne you simply shouldn’t use it.

This is only for talcum based powders. Almost every type of baby powder is now made from cornstarch.

Perhaps I'm just out of the loop, but isn't Johnson's Baby Powder (which includes talc) still the most sold bp?

Thats what worries me Repaidaze :/ Billions of parents are putting it on their babies and thousands of AB's are also using it. Heck, even some non AB adults use it when they get out the shower to soften their skin. If it's dangerous then that amounts to a large portion of the world collectively who is unknowingly intoxicating themselves or their loved ones.

Don't you find it all a little strange that a product thats been heavily commercially used since 1893 making you worried? Why is that?

Thats exactly what worried me. It's being commercialised when it may not be safe. I'm sure it's not that unsafe, or Trading Standards would have pulled it. But it's still worrying that it could lay down the foundations for cancer and UTIs

As I learned about the UTI parts..bit makes me go back to think that fir some time if I am not mistaken in my ECCE (Early childcare education) books said something about an inhallation hazard too...

This is how I understood the journey:

A product that has been out for this long and were NOW just questioning if it gives females ovarian cancer.. There's been tests and trials since the 70s. Nothings changed. Media catches wind.. Reports come out, a lot of money is owed because of maybe asbestos? Eventually the correct and needed research gets accomplished.. All is fine - Media Media Media.

No need to worry (yet or at all). There's been testing. There's still testing.

I think J&J used asbestos in their powder. Or so I've heard.

OK, If that were true, there would be ads galore on TV with trolling lawyer sharks saying, "Did your mom use J&jBaby powder on you? Do you have problems, any problems at all?" If so...

I can believe they used fillers, but asbestos, only if they were worried about someones diapers bursting into flames.

Hahaha perhaps a new summertime blend to combat heat waves?

They definitely don't add it themselves as a filler, lol.l. Asbestos is a mineral that naturally forms near talcum. Cosmetic grade talcum that is used in baby powder is much purer and much more cut off from asbestos.. There still isnt a final ruling yet on if J&J BP indeed had asbestos in it, but IF it did, it would be from an accident that occurred during the mining process.
