I just dealt with the most embarrassing moment with wearing diapers.

I have a feeling Northshore's quality has gone down. From tapes ripping off the back panel when putting them on, to the back of the diaper splitting and having the pulp fall out.

I was out food shopping at Fred Meyers when all of a sudden I noticed my legs getting a bit damp. The center of the back of my diaper split open and the pulp started sagging out. Eventually it started falling down my pants and out my leg openings. I had my roommates escort me to the bathroom so I could change out.

I discovered that I left a trail of white pulp the whole way to the bathroom. This has been the most embarrassing experience I have had since having to go back to diapers for OAB / UIC.

I have a hard enough time accepting my need for them, but having a situation like this makes me want to go back to just holding it the best I can.

A recent ultrasound shows that I have a very small bladder capacity, 130ml. I often have to go to the bathroom up to 20 times a day. I decided to start wearing diapers to reduce my total trips since they were impacting my job performance and was causing pain when trying to hold it for my daily 1.5 hour commute. But after an event like this, I really just don't want to deal with it anymore.

That is pretty awful, I've had my share of split diapers but never ones that left a trail like that. I was never a big fan of the Northshore brand of diapers, I tried a sample and it just wasn't for me, but there are plenty of other brands out there if you're looking for better protection.

I’m sorry this happened to you. I to have had this happen once when wearing a North shore Supreme Diaper. Fortunately I was home and it happened while I was sleeping. I can’t imagine being in public but I have leaked in public. It’s very embarrassing but as others have told me it’s not if but when it will happen again. Keep your head up and I would suggest not trying to hold it. That can cause damage too. Incontitnece sucks and diapers give us our freedom back.

Sorry about that dreadful experience indeed :frown:

Every diaper will sooner or later leek or fall apart when its gone over its limits im afraid so based on what you have told us here i would suggest you need to change more often to prevent the diaper being filled passed its limits .

Trying to hold it will NOT work and the only thing you do is cause more pain on yourself + added risk of damaging youre bladder even further or /and even you other organs.

Also i would suggest you to put some extra booster to ad the protection level & also some ord (slightly tighter) underwear & over that som PVC pants ( the underwear will act as a support for youre diaper to stay in place and less force of stretching as much increasing the risk of the diaper splitting from the the tension , the PVC pants will help you catch some of the spill and give you some more time to go and change

Note to self: NEVER buy Northshore Diaper Products!

I use NorthShore products, and one of the reasons I choose them is that they are the most durable. Issues like this aren't unheard of, it does happen. I wouldn't hesitate to contact NorthShore and talk to them; they are very receptive and welcome feedback.

There are a few reasons you could be experiencing these kinds of failures:
1) A bad batch. Yet another reason to contact NorthShore. They may know of this, or might not.
2) You could be wearing them too tightly. If you are stretching them super tight in an effort to keep leaks at bay this may lead to tape failures and shell splitting.
3) You might be wearing the wrong size. If you are squeezing into a size that is too small, it could cause tape failure and shell splitting.

Can you get a bag that goes on your leg? Hook up some sort of drain that doesn't need a Cath.

I've been wearing Northshore Air Supremes to work for the past week. No problems at all.

Details:

I've only had one diaper for the whole eight hour shift as I've yet to figure out how to roll up a new one and get a 'hiding bag' to keep it inside the tiny backpack I carry all the time. But with eight hours of wear and multiple wettings, nothing. No blowouts, no tears and no fluff-escapes. And this is with lots of walking to and fro, getting on and off of a forklift, lifting and carrying heavy items and even getting 'stuck' between palettes on the floor. I put a lot of stress on my padding. :3 The only trouble I've had is that I have to constantly go in the bathroom and pull the tapes tighter. Apparently as I move, I stretch the plastic a bit and they loosen. It's not a bother really, just something that's gotta be done.

I used to have issues with Always Discreet having the backing separate from the inner sheet, leaving a 'hole' along the leg opening and letting fluff escape. Which is one of the reasons I started to be displeased with them.

I also suggest contacting NorthShore and at least talking to them about it. They seem a very reasonable bunch of folks and might be able to find out what's going on.

(The only time I've ever ripped a tape off of backing was with a Crinklz...I pulled too hard and off it came. I was like "!!!" Then I decided to rig it by taking off the blue tape and just sticking the white one so it 'spanned' the seam. It worked well enough for me to wear it. *giggles*)

i to use northshore and have had no trouble with them i to also think you should contact them and talk with them about this they are super good people to talk to

Unfortunately diapers do fail no mater what brand, I have had a few diapers fail and pulp has leaked out I just started to change more often and try not to push the diaper saturation wise.

A diapers total capacity is never really close to being obtainable in real day to day life maybe in a lab where theres no movment to strech the diaper as you walk or bend and strech.

Leaks, nappies failing, falling to pieces. I've had it all. After I while you just accept it as part of being incontinent.

Your problems with diapers is actually a tell tale sign you are wearing one size too small. Even though you can still tape it on, the cut and shape of the diaper will not allow for enough movement and expansion room. When the diaper gets wet it starts expanding, except you aren't leaving enough room for that expansion or movement, and that causes the diaper to fail. Especially with the rear splitting open, and the tapes pulling off.

You should seriously consider trying the next size up. Remember, a diaper is supposed to fit like a diaper, not tighty whities. It is supposed to extend up to your waist line (near your belly button), and it needs to be put on snuggly, not tight. Also make sure there is a slight bit of looseness in the padding even with the legs and waist bands tapped on snug (again, not tightly). This will allow for better mobility and movement, as well as for the diaper to swell some. Do this, and your problems will most likely dissappear.

I have been wearing NorthShore Supreme diapers for the past two years and I have only had problems with the tape not sticking on a few diapers, tapes pulling off diaper once, diaper splitting in back only once and that was only very rough use. Yes I left a trail of white as I walked and by the time I got home all I had left of the diaper was the inner liner and what was left of the plastic backing, but the tapes never let loose on that diaper.

Yeah, I accidentally tore mine last night at work. XD Luckily it was one of the 'air' ones, so the extra 'cloth' backing contained any escaping fluff and it was high enough in the front that it didn't really let anything escape.

But it was my fault, I pulled the tapes too tight and they pulled back against the backing plastic and made two perfect little gashes in it. (I know it was the tapes, the tears were lined up with where I had them placed.)

I only had this happen with an off-brand diaper that was cut smaller than the normal ones I wear, so I ended up having to pull it too tight. I've been using the plastic-backed supremes for years now and haven't noticed any changes myself. Still the most reliable, especially with a booster, but with every diaper if you pull the tabs too tight, there will be no room for expansion when the wetness hits.

I do notice some manufacture on there cheaper diapers use cheaper plastic backing and expect them to hold.

I use TotalDry X-Plus Fitted Briefs. Other than a few tape failure they been great.

But if I use

TotalDry Plus Fitted Briefs. When I sat down I felt a pop in my rear end meaning it ripped. Lucky I only use them at home or as a diaper doubler for Totaldry X-plus Fitted Briefs Or with plastic pants and Cloth Training.

It has nothing to do if the diaper too tight. But how cheap can we make this diaper?

What kind of stupid mentality is this? I hope this is an attempt at being facetious.

It´s interesting that people experience stuff like diapers ripping in the middle with US products(if I am not mistaken the users reporting this issues life in the US or use products of US companies).
Maybe there are different quality criteria or certification processes in the US compared to Germany. I never ever experienced such things with an established brand diaper here.
The one and only time that happened was in the veeery early stages of the Comficare development. I was part of some of the prototype testings and there it happened. But that was a design flaw(others experienced it also) and it was ironed out.
Even the cheapest healthcare provided diaper must hold up to certain criteria to be allowed to be offered(getting registered in the "Hilfsmittelverzeichnis", a general register for medical products).
The worst things I encountered were the ripping off of wings, useless tapes or snapped leak guards. And those were rare cases and mostly exceptional production failures. The snapped leak guards do occur a little more often during daytime use but prove not to be such a problem.
So maybe there is a quality problem due to the lack of standards in the US? It´s just an assumption and not meant anti-american(just in case some one takes this the wrong way).

Cheers

Don't give up.

I went to my (then) local supermarket even though I knew I had a dodgy tummy (this was well before I even fell ill, and ended up dual incontinent) however, I decided to go anyway.

Pretty much as soon as I walked in the store, I knew I had to race to the bathroom, I couldn't run in a supermarket, so I hobbled as fast as I could.

I was too late, my bowels opened with almost watery poop, it ran down my legs and my god did it stink. I cleaned myself up the best I could with lots of toilet paper, and trying to soak up the majority of the liquid, even though the tracksuit bottoms I was wearing were practically shell suit material, it still came through - it was obvious.

I took my hoody off and wrapped it around my waist so I could get back out of the store and get to the car. I queued for the newspaper I had gone in for, but I smelt like a baby with gastric infection (I actually had gastroenterits (sp) so it stank like a poorly baby's nappy) I stood patiently in the queue, but people started looking around with a face that I KNEW could smell me.

I wanted the earth to open up and swallow me, or a parent and baby to join the queue so everyone would assume it was the baby.

In the end I gave up and left the store in tears and went to the car.

I think this was almost the worst part of my life, at that moment I would have taken any day in my awful past and relived it, instead of what happened.

Now - I'm able to laugh about it.

So yeah, the point of me waffling about my experience is to show you, that even when you think the worst has happened and you want to give up, that someone else has either shared your experience, or had one similar or just as bad.

I say complain to Northshore, and purchase a different brand, and get on with it, mark the day down to a bad experience, I'm sure you'll have more.

If you stop wearing nappies, you're going to end up like I was, soaked, out in public with nowhere to turn. If your bladder can only hold so little, how can you possibly hold on?

Please don't give up, please try again, perhaps with a completely different brand.

*hugs*

Hi Iam32,
I can only say I'm sorry this happened to you. I've had similar problems with cheaper nappies that are provided for me by the NHS here in the UK, so now whenever I go out I use Abri-form (Abena) l4's However if you are really conscious about this problem you can now get plastic or vinyl waterproof pants that are totally silent and will protect you from things like this happening again. Most pants will need to be at least 1 sixelarger than your nappy. Vinyl tends not to stretch as much and can tear. Both types can be machine washed but need to be hung to dry in the air. I'm assuming you are in the States or Canada so I can't give you area specidic sites but look up GARY adult waterproof pants which are very good and widely available the other type I use is from a UK supplier - https://www.incontinencechoice.co.uk/drytex-waterproof-pants-large.html They do various sizes from small to xxl and they are clear with very small transparent starts on them, but i haven't had any issues with them at hospital or doctor appointments. I'm fairly sure theywouldbe available in your part of the world. In the meantime good luck and i hope you don't have any similar problems.

finally a word of warning, whilst this forum is for people who are genuinely incontinent, any member is allowed to join, so some of the advice given may be from AB/DL's who may not be aware of some of the issues that incontinent people have to deal with.
