"Life's a piece of shit, when you look at it."

However: whatever life brings, people can adapt to a great extent. I see a lot of suffering in my daily job but most people find a new balance, a new way of life. Often with a high quality of life, sometimes even higher than before they became sick.

I also meet people who say they would rather be dead than blind/paralyzed/wheelchair bound/afasic/incontinent/... but when they have adapted they are happy to be alive. It is almost impossible to imagine realistically how life will be after disaster strikes.

There is only one thing certain: shit happens and will happen; and we have to deal with it. I am not saying it is easy, and I myself have had the necessary setbacks, both in health and life in general. But I am still glad to be here.
