A lucid dream that might make a good game, possibly with manga?

Scene: far corner of Universe, ships of various sizes, all in very advanced states of decay, crews are obviously Terran Human, scientific /slash/ Engineers from recognizable Terran nationalities collecting an amorphous “blob” alien bio mass which is probably sentient but Terran science type leaders have vague notions of how to harness it to repair the aging fleet. The space 'ships' are mostly platforms of biomass analog to wood, with variable condition but all decaying 'canvas' hulls and ropes, in a time span of two Terran days starting with what appear to be American stereotypes going from one platform to another where a very large “blob” had been reeled in. Using two ships and raft like platforms, one of them a fairly recent vintage scientific/corporate expeditionary vessel, and the other a “rich kid” version of a speedboat, blob-based power source which has a capacity to move in the space analog of an ocean. With a breathable atmosphere. Captain of the research ship has two new crew members, and two older hands as main characters with some vaguely human, possible mutant, crew members who are like firemen on old steam engine trains and boats, shoveling Terran fibrous slime, perhaps algae and mosses and obviously a bit repulsive.
Setting goes from one journey to the newest source of the 'blob' and back to a fleet of the raft-like ships or piers, independently floating and with barn-like superstructures with some metal but mostly 'wood' framework covered with the 'canvas'. From time to time 'sailors' or 'dockworkers' fall off the unsteady platforms never to be seen again. References to a colonial political structure which only the oldest have any memory. The dock belonging to the research ship rescues a human described as Japanese and fell from one of “their” platforms, as they were pulling the canvas skins of their docks over the frames and the 'sailors' strapping themselves to the platform preparing to sleep, eating their meals which is consisted of mostly the moss-like plants.

The Japanese sailor is older than most of the American crew and reminiscences with the skipper/researcher about a vague time-lined conflict from their past. Scene opens with dawn, taking down the semi-protective canvas walls and preparing to start the business day.
At which point I woke up. I don't recall any book or video or game with such a structure.
Perhaps the scenes with sailors falling into the perpetual “down” are a prelude to other platforms and ships drifting far below.

The 'blobs' are extremely toxic to humans and Terran life forms, can float down, up, back, forward and laterally. They do have the capacity to feed on Terran life forms like especially the moss.

Could any of you who mod your games use that same scenario as a starting place? Perhaps fix the plot structure which shows absolutely no social or political evolution from the past hundred years of our actual history.
