I know what regression is in the context of ABDL - but what does it mean in the context of counselling and hypnotherapy?

Does it sound like something that would help or is it a bit wacky?

Also what if the client is ABDL? Would that complicate things?

I’d be very grateful if anyone has any experience they could share.

It is something that you talk to your councilor about.

In most cases it is considered a coping mechanism.

The big question/issue is balance.

Thanks for the reply Egor. I didn’t make it clear but I meant regression therapy. I found some stuff about it on the internet. I just wanted some insight when deciding whether to try it.

My therapist considered "regression therapy" and the psychological theories behind it rather questionable. It's been shown to invoke "false memories" in certain people (where people become convinced that they have remembered an event through hypnotherapy that could never have happened).

But he was in favour of hypnotherapy as a way to reach a state of mindfulness/relaxation. Unfortunately it didn't really do anything for me. It's just someone talking really slowly, and I find it funny or annoying. It works for some people, though. My sister had hypnotherapy to "cure" her phobia of hypodermic needles.

Thanks Tiny.

That makes a lot of sense. The false memories are also a bit worrying.

Did it work for your sister?

I can see why my counsellor is suggesting it - but I think like you, it may not be the right thing for me.

He was suggesting it with another counsellor - so I am still carrying on with my regular counselling.
