So anyone who has followed me elsewhere, my urge incontinece was complicated by the inability to pee when I needed to. I had to strain really hard to pee, but was able to for the most part. Well, a few years ago I started to pursue a urinary sphincterotomy. That turned into seven such surgeries.

As if that wasn't enough, I have had two urethral blockages in the past. They were removed as part of those surgeries.

Fast forward to today, and I've developed another such blockage. Except this one was the mother of them all. I tried to self cath this morning, and failed. So after work I went to the ER and they tried three more times, and also failed. By this point I wasn't able to stran to pee any more either.

The ER called in their urology specialist, and he had to insert an catheter tube in through my abdomen, and directly into my bladder. Thankfully that worked, and he drained over 600 ml from me.

I have a followup with him next week, then again in six weeks. He will need to increase the tube size at that point so he can insert a camera in my bladder and see what the damage is from the inside (around my prostrate area). If all goes well, I'm looking at a urethral reconstruction.

So yeah, theres that.....

I'm so sorry to hear that you are having more trouble and hope you recover with as few additional problems as possible.

That sucks man, I'm beginning to wonder if you shouldn't be looking for lawyers instead of urologist's because the ones you have had have not improved the quality of your life in a measurable way , unless you weigh there wallet versuses yours you will never develope a limp on your wallet side because they keep it thin.
So you now have what an emergency supra pubic cath ?

Slomo, I'm very sorry to hear about your new problem. I hope that you're able to get the surgery you need quickly and that this time it is successful long term.

Thanks guys, lawyers won't be needed though. The urologist at the Mayo clinic has been the best urologist I've been to- by far. The sphincterotomies were what I wanted (of which he specializes in), with the intent of opening up my urethra. They did work for opening up my sphincters too.

It is more likely the blockages I've got are from catheterizing all these years, coupled with my straining so much. Not really my urologists fault on that part. Though it is likely all that work down there didn't help my urethra, I knew that risk before going into all of those surgeries.

This new urologist I just saw last night, at the navy base hospital ER, actually specializes in urethral reconstruction. He, and I, agreed that my current bockage was not passible right now, and any further attempts would just make things worse. The only other option then was to drain my bladder via a temporary suprapubic cath. Either that or die from sepsis.

It is working well enough for the time being, and I haven't had any bladder spasm urges since it was put in. My abdoment is incredibly sore, and a little painful. Less painful than those urges I had though, and I just got a script for pain meds for the mean time.

My visit with him next week is just a standard followup to make sure the suprapubic is working as expected, no infections, etc. Its really just a waiting game now for my urethra to heal up from those failed attempts. We'll formulate a real plan of action in six weeks.

It is weird having a penis that for all purposes is nothing more than a show piece though. Hopefully that can be rectified to, but who knows.

Well I'm still nearly/fully blocked, except for a few drops of pee every now and again. I made the mistake of wearing the same diaper for a full day, while also not fully drying myself out. While mostly dry, my diaper was damp enough right around the tip of my penis. Combined with not drying out, this lead to a really bad rash.

I'm back to following my own advice again, and it is already healing up quickly.

My urologist also just scheduled me for a minor surgery next month. He's going to change out my suprapubic cath with a larger one, and will also be doing a litte exploratory discovery to figure out if my urethra can be fixed.

I'm so sorry to hear you have to go through all of this. It sounds like a nightmare. I had to cath myself for six weeks after back surgery, and that was enough for a lifetime. I hope your surgery works out and you're able to pee once again.

The supra pubic is just a Foley coming out of your abdomen , I have lots of friends who change there own , there also irrigate the bladder to prevent infection .

Not exactly. With a typical suprapubic you have a purpose built, biological drainage pee hole implanted (usually near the belly button, and made from your apendix or piece of intestine. This you then catheterize on your own.

Mine was a directly implanted catheter. It is only temporary though and was done as an emergency procedure. It was sutured/tied into place- and it still always hurts like a b***h.

I've also just gone through a followup/preop with this new urologist. He will be exchanging this one out for a larger, still temporary and directly implanted, one on the 20th of next month. Thankfully I will be knocked out for this one as I was awake when he put it in me in the ER. (My abdomal skin was numbed up good, but when he punctured my bladder that was the second worse pain I've ever felt. A true 9 on the 1-10 pain scale).

This new, larger, catheter will then allow him to do a contrast xray on me, as well as put a camera in my bladder to look at the damage.

Once he figures out the full extent and exact location of my damage, then we can figure out what surgery I can actually get done. So yeah, I need a surgery just to figure out what surgery I'll be getting. With "luck", that will be a full uroplasty to open my urethra back up again.

I hope all this goes well for you Slomo and again, I'm sorry you have to endure this.

Well it looks like it isn't going well. They say it always gets worse becore it gets better, and this has been no excetion.

So last night I went to empty my pee bag, and it was empty. I was feeling ok, but decided to err on the side of caution and go back tocthe ER. Good thing too, my temproary suprapubic cath had slipped out of my bladder!

They called in my urologist and admitted me in for an emergency surgery. He took it out, and implanted a folloey balloon catheter, as well as did some exploration to see what I will need to have done later.

No idea what his findings were, but I am in more pain now than I was yesterday. AND I'm at work this morning too! At least my bladder is draining again though.
