Thread: Background Check

    Default Background Check

Hey all, long time no talk.

So I was offered a counselor position at this huge fine arts camp for the summer sessions and accepted immediately. The staff member mentioned during our phone call that I would have to go through a New York State Background Check to finalize my position. Has anyone been through this check before? This may just be me being overly paranoid, but in the past few years I have made several accounts and purchases on different AB/DL sites, admittedly mostly for porn. Being mistaken for a pedophile with this fetish is one of my worst fears, and the fact that I'm applying to a job that deals with minors makes me all the more anxious about this kind of thing being discovered. I figured someone here may have been through a similar experience or would at least have more knowledge about state-run background checks themselves. Any info will help, thanks regardless.

Background checks just usually involve financial information such as credit history and current debts and along with any criminal history. I do suppose a company may look on the net too on social media like facebook, but that is probably all you have to worry about.

A couple years back I had to have some background checks done. The state where I live now requires that people who do volunteer work around children be screened. There were two parts, one a check with the state police, and another that looked for a history of child abuse.

I don't live in New York, and obviously I don't know exactly how deeply they dig, but I'm going to say that they probably just look at past criminal history and thus you should be safe.

Over here in the UK, "background checks" would be a criminal history check. There are two levels: basic and enhanced. The latter is required if you're in a position of responsibility.

The basic test just checks to see whether you have any criminal convictions, cautions, etc. The enhanced check also checks for any unproven intelligence the police may have on you.

If you've never been arrested, have never been reported for any crime, and are a genuine law-abiding member of society, then I'm sure you have nothing to worry about.

Looking at perfectly legal porn involving consensual adults isn't going to get you flagged up on a police database. Don't sweat it.

The "authorities" who know what websites you're looking at, also know how many other people are looking at them. They won't care about adults wearing diapers. They won't even make a note that you happen to be looking at diaper porn. It's not a crime, and anyone requesting a "background search" wouldn't be informed of such personal details as your search history.

Hope this sets your mind at ease :-)

You're clear. Background checks primarily check criminal records and occasionally credit. They also verify the references you gave are genuine. They don't get access to your internet purchase history, etc.

I had to have a complete background check when I became a teacher assistant for our public school system. It even included being fingerprinted, and nothing came up, so I think you're safe, unless the police have a warrant out on you.

I had to have a criminal background check to be an authorized Samsung service tech and that was just a criminal check, also here in the states, contrary to what politicians say you need to pass a very extensive background check to buy a firearm as well. What's ironic while in school I made up a song something along "if you have a gun your diaper will become undone" thankfully that has not happened to me yet...
