    Default Robotic Parents

I found this article very interesting and if you could would you have your own custom robotic parents made to take care of you forever?

Describe what your perfect parent would be like.

Oh jeez, it's Lacy Green in the video at the end there, back when she used to work for DNews, I don't like her. She was always terrible at reporting. x.x

As for the topic at hand. Well, I can't see having a robot take care of you as feeling the same as a real person doing so. I suppose much further into the future when they are practically self-aware it might be pretty interesting. But if they were self-aware ... then it really wouldn't be any different than trying to get a random person to try and take care of you.

It does bring along a lot of questions about morality. At what point do we consider it slavery ... I wonder?

Anyway, besides that, if the robots are not self-aware and are only made to simulate the feeling of self-awareness ... (which I doubt could be done without actually being self-aware), I still probably wouldn't ever get a robot to be a parent like figure. I would like to have at least some sort of emotional connection to the person who would treat me as such and who I would treat them as such. I actually assume that would be the case for most people here who are not into it entirely sexually.

Yeah, I agree with Marchin. It just wouldn't be the same even if the robot was very lifelike. Of course, they're far from there at the present. I wonder though, what would it be like to have something like Amazon's Alexa programmed to respond like a "mommy"?

You: "Alexa, I'm feeling like a toddler today."

Alexa: "Oh, are we a little baby today? Is your diaper wet?", etc. Imagine the possibilities.

I didn't write my traditional scary story this year for Halloween because I've spent all my spare time learning difficult piano pieces on my new piano, but I have an idea for next Halloween and you can now guess what it involves!

Yeah. I have actually seen a film(Artificial Inteligence 2001) where robot was the child. That made me think about it. Judging from the film, the 'mommy' idea could work too. At least it's interesting idea which I would give a try but only if the robot had a human like consciousness.

It's creepy that non-living object could fullfil so important figure in child's life but what if that non-living robot has a human like consciousness? Is it still considered as an object? Just thinking...

Offtopic: Specialists in robotics are not sure if it is even possible to program the humanlike consciousness. Some of them think that we have to program it to 'basic' level and then teach him like a child... Basically they say it is needed the process of learning. Being able to learn and understand itself and world around it.

This lowkey reminds me of the Disney Channel movie from forever ago called Smart House - how the house this family moved into simulated itself as a creepy dictator mother figure. Could easily see that intersecting with dogboy's idea to become a terrifying and wonderful mess of a Halloween story. I still get nightmares from that movie sometimes lol.

I think you'll see 'love' dolls long before they get around to our little niche. Much bigger market. Of course, once you've got the rest of it down, the difference between Sally Slut and Mommy Dearest is tweaking the software.... just like real women come to think of it.

<Maxx ducks the virtual dishes flying in his way>

Edit: It would be a whole lot easier to mimic male than female. To quote Jeff Foxworthy, men are simple: "I'd like a beer and I'd like to see something nekkid"

Edit 2: I'm just getting into season 2 of Dark Matter. They've certainly blurred the distinction between human and artificial with a couple of the characters.

Actually, in real life, it's very hard to fool a person with AI. I do think love dolls will certainly be successful for sexual purposes. That is pretty obvious. However, if you are looking to make an actual emotional connection ... unless it's self-aware that emotional connection is going to be very hard to form. I mean go over to your car and have fun with it, then tell me you want to marry your car after. XD It just doesn't work like that.

For AB/DL, if it were to ever come this way ... it would only benefit those who want to use it for sexual purposes. It wouldn't work well to have a mommy or daddy you have absolutely no emotional connection to.
