    Default Opinion - Obama ?

Now with the bad economy that has plagued so many people, I think it would be a good idea to ask what everyone's opinion of Obama is.

My opinion: In all honesty, I think he is doing the best he can. Could he do better? Possibly. My take on the State of the Union address was that he said what America needed to hear, but I do not know if it is really going to make any difference at all. I am not sure if Bobby Jindal did well or not with the Republican response either.

I really want to hear people's opinions on this. What do you think? Do you like him? Do you hate him? Do you think he is doing a good job? Do you think he could do better? etc. etc. etc. It would be awesome if people from other countries gave their opinions on the subject as well. : )

I think that we are in no better shape then we were before he took office. He passed his so called stimulus bill and the market dropped even lower and has been doing so ever since.

I am not going to say he's the worst president I seen since he's still only been in for a short time, however all the stuff him and his admin has done has done nothing to help the market/banks yet. He pretty much promised to fix this situation, if he doesn't he doesn't stand a shot in hell at getting his 2nd term.

Also it doesn't really help his admin if they blame anything, right now its on them to fix this mess. They applied for the job and now they got it.

It's hard to change the economy. We've basically done all the tricks we tried in past depressions, so he needs to think up something new. Plus, he's only been in office for a short while. If you were expecting the economy to be fixed by now, then you have unrealistic expectations.

Obama is going to fuck up. (watch and see all presidents have so far.) I'll make up my mind based on how he handles it.

I really hate him on a personal level because he's a typical politician masquerading as a change agent.

The thing is he got elected on the promise that he was going to change things. So far he hasn't done anything that hasn't been tried before.

That being said he has only been in office for a short period of time, he has the potential to do great things, whether or not he follows through and makes the needed changes is still to be seen.

I think he's doing okay so far. And I think there's only so much the president can do. He can't just magically fix the economy overnight. I think we need to give him more time though. It's too soon to say he's a failure and too soon to proclaim him to be the best president ever.

I agree that healthcare reform can't wait... because the screwed up healthcare system is part of the problem. Give all the money you want to the corporations, but it's not going to change anything if people just don't have enough money to spend. And if socialized medicine is such a bad idea as so many people complain, then healthcare needs to be made affordable some other way. People shouldn't have to go into debt forever just to have their lives saved.

Maybe the economy just needs to change. It's too favorable to the very rich. Maybe things need to be more fair. Maybe companies shouldn't expect a gazillion percent profit on everything. Make prices fair, not complete exploitation. Companies do deserve to make a profit, but they should remember that everyone else needs money to survive. Corporate executives are using bonuses to live like kings while many other people are having trouble paying for basic necessities!

So you're suggesting we take some of their money and give it to people who need help paying for, say, their mortgages?

Okay, so let's see what that would do. Would it simply make things easy for everyone?

    No.

    It would:

    * Reduce the incentive to become highly wealthy, since the money will just be taken from you, which would
    > Decrease the number of innovative products that are released
    > Decrease employment opportunities, since there's less wealth/capital for rich people to reinvest

    * Reduce the incentive for the lower classes to work hard, since it will just be paid for by those awful rich people, anyway

    * Reduce the incentive for the middle class to work hard, since if you end up in the lower class, it will just get taken care of by the rich

    * Cause price inflation, since more money would be pumped into the market, which would hurt the lower-middle class

The #1 lesson of economics is to look at how things will affect all groups, not just one. These things can't and don't happen in a vacuum. It's the fundamental fallacy of socialism.

Even though I do think some points of socialism make sense, that is not my point here. I did not say "take their money". I said that the rich should do their part and not be so greedy. I said that they shouldn't expect all that money in the first place. As long as they're greedy, everyone else will suffer. They can be rich without taking more than they'll ever need. They think they can just take, take, take, and then they wonder why no one has anything to spend.... I wonder why. It's time to think of everyone and not just themselves. Debt is a big part of the cause of all this, after all.
