My favorite band is Avenged Sevenfold based on personal reasons, but I'm definitely a prog metal guy. Dream Theater, Symphony X, Periphery, Between The Buried And Me, and Protest The Hero are my top five, no order.

I just saw behemoth and I'll be seeing lamb of God and amon amarth later this month. I'm more into black and death metal with some power metal in there.

Have you been spying on me? You took my favorites right from the tips of my fingers. I'll add a few though.

Opeth, Nevermore, and Redemption. That fit right in that category of prog metal without that cheesy singing.

I'd like to add a band outside of the category, not very popular, but a former local band that disbanded after a death. From Louisiana, I present Acid Bath..

They are a very unique bands from the early to mid 90s. They are considered doom metal. The music is all over the place. I will say that the lyrics are very dark.

This is a very dark love song. The music is beautiful.

If you like the songs you should check out the two albums that they have. Most of it is worth a listen.

I believe you and I have discussed our very similar tastes in music before.

I don't consider myself a metalhead but I listen to some.

The bands I most consistently listen to are Mastodon, Black Sabbath, some Metallica, I think Motorhead (rip Lemmy) can also be consider metal and I listen to them a lot. There are others that I listen that I'm not remembering or that I don't listen that much.

When I was a teenager I used to listen to more heavier music, but it was mostly nu-metal, I don't regret it as did enjoy listening to it but I'm not proud of it either lol.

I listen to quite a lot of different music, but metal is definitely my favourite. My all-time favourite band is Avenged Sevenfold, and my other favourites are Killswitch Engage and In Flames. Those are all pretty "generic" bands, but I also love to listen a lot of more heavier stuff and more less-known bands.

Long time listening to all sorts of weird and wonderful metal. My "gateway" band was Maiden, of whom I'm still a huge fan, but have listened to all sorts over the years, tending more to the murkier realms of the underground, both way back when tape trading was a thing and in more recent years. There's just so much amazing stuff out there when you dig a little deeper.

Absolutely have to mention Slugdge at this point. Lovecraftian themed utterly twisted death metal about intergalactic slug deities. Sounds bonkers, but it's absolutely incredible and blows a lot of far more well known bands out of the water.

Here's my Bandcamp collection, for those who enjoy the more underground side of things.
