Making good diaper doublers

From ADISC Answers Wiki

A doubler is a diaper that has been modified to accept a smaller diaper (called a stuffer) in order to gain several things, the biggest being absorbency. Depending on what combo you use, a good stuffer can double the capacity. This also increases the bulk, so be careful if you're thinking about wearing in public, around friends, family, etc. The most common method of stuffing is done by simply putting a booster pad into the original, or by poking holes in the bottom of the original and then putting another diaper over it (so that the original will leak into the second). But both of these methods have problems, particularly with leaking and the way they feel. This guide attempts to eliminate these problems.

  1. The first steps in making a good stuffer is to obtain the diaper you would normally wear, and a smaller one that you wish to stuff it with. Some good smaller brands to use as stuffers are Under Jams, Pampers size 7 or Luvs size 6. Pampers tend to work best, but experiment until you find what fits you best.
  2. Take the smaller diaper and tear off the sides and all the elastics surrounding the absorbent core, so that all that remains is the center of the diaper.
  3. Set the smaller diaper aside, and grab your main diaper. There are two ways of doing this next step depending on what type of diaper you have. If it does not have an elastic band at the back, then your going to pull apart the two layers that make up the inside and outside where the elastic would be. This may take a little force, but they should come a part. Keep pulling until you can see the absorbent padding in the inside. Seal the opening with tape once you complete instruction numbers 5 and 6. If this fails, or you are not confident enough to do this, or your diaper has an elastic band, then find yourself a razor blade or a pair of scissors.
  4. Locate where the internal padding ends at the back of the larger diaper (you should be able to see it through the plastic). Without using a lot of pressure, but enough to cut through the plastic facing you, make a small cut at the top of the padding, just wide enough to get your insert through.
  5. Now flip the large diaper over so that the outside is facing up and reach your hand inside and under the absorbent padding (you should feel the bottom of the diaper). Carefully separate it from the bottom so that you can slide your hand (and the smaller diaper) all the way to the front and under the padding. Flatten out your stuffer completely, then push it through the hole you made. Slide it under the padding and to wherever you think it should be, then let it straighten. Be patient when sliding it in so that you don't rip either diaper. Note that you may want to slide the stuffer in backwards so that you get more padding in the front whilst only adding a bit to the back. Belly sleepers will appreciate this.
  6. Remove your hand. Refold the entire diaper just as it was when you got it from the package, and work the smaller one a bit to get it centered. You may want to press down to make sure the two pads are all lined up.

You're done! If all went well then you are now in possession of a doubled diaper. Congratulations and enjoy!
