ViewsForum featuresFrom ADISC Answers Wiki(Redirected from Forum Features)
The ADISC Forum has a whole range of features beyond the ability to make threads and post in them. Some of these features allow you to contribute more to the site in terms of adding content that wouldn't necessarily be appropriate to post on the forum. Most of these features can be found via the navigation bar at the top of every page you visit on ADISC.
The Navigation BarNon-Contribution FeaturesUser CPThe User CP or User Control Panel is one of the most important features on the website. It is where you control privacy and security aspects over your profile, edit your profile, signature, avatar, account password and email and view private messages and reputation comments among other things. It is the hub where you customize your information on the website and only you should have access to it. FAQThe FAQ or Frequently Asked Questions is the section found on most websites. It is a help-file designed to allow users to browse for solutions to questions and issues that are commonly asked on the site. The ADISC FAQ covers only questions to do with the forum software itself and how to use the features employed on the site; this Wiki is considered the main FAQ and ADISC information source for issues not directly related to the site itself. If you are having problems browsing the site, or have a question related to a technical aspect of the site, the ADISC FAQ is the best place to look for your answer, followed by this Wiki. If you can't find what you are looking for, are still unsure about something and need it clarified, then you are welcome to contact a Moderator or Administrator with your query via the Private Message system, or even make a post on the Requests Board. Members ListThe Members List, as the name suggests, lists all the registered members of the forum. The default setting ranks members by their user name (Numbers/Letter A - Z), however, you can also sort them by their number of posts and their Reputation score (default is highest to lowest). For these three categories, you can click the little box next to the title and it will reserve the order to lowest to highest. This list also displays each member's avatar, if they have one, otherwise it is left blank. You'll notice that above this list is a box with a # and the letters A-Z. If you are looking for a particular member, you can filter the list by clicking the first letter of their user name, or in the case of the first characters being a number, the # sign. If you are looking for a particular member and you know their full user name, you can search for them directly using the Search Members feature, which is located just above the "Avatar" column. ReferralsLike any community, we need to grow and gain new members in order to stay active. Since ADISC doesn't advertise and that we aren't the most popular DL/Infantilism site on the internet, word of mouth is an important part of how we gain new members. A referral is when an existing member recommends the site to someone else and they register an account. The Referrals section on ADISC lists users by how many people they have referred to the site, from most referrals to least. Note that you need at least one referral to be on this list and that all members are not listed. To gain a referral you'll notice a box above the list that says, To invite someone new to ADISC.org, copy the following link and send it to the one you want to invite: http://www.adisc.org/forum/register.php?referrerid=XXX ...where XXX will be your user ID number already filled in. Send this link to the person you wish to refer and when they register, it will give you a referral point. Alternatively, you can use the Invite Your Friends link also located in the navigation bar to invite people to ADISC. Note that the referral list has no impact to your status on the site and is merely for statistical purposes. Any new member may register without being referred. Invite Your FriendsA quick way to refer many people to the website. You are allowed to invite up to ten people. Please see the Referral section above for more detail on inviting people and referrals. New PostsYou'll notice on that navigation bar that there is a link that called New Posts followed by a number of posts and a number of threads. Clicking this link will filter out and list the threads that contain new posts made on the forum since your last visit to the website. This is useful in that you don't need to go to every board separately to see any new posts that have been made in your absence. Alternatively, you can use this link while still on the forum refresh your New Posts list. The numbers after the "New Posts" simply tell you how many posts have been made and in how many different threads, respectively. Also note, you can access this list by clicking the Unread Posts link located under your user name in the navigation bar. SearchThe Search feature is a very useful tool and like on any other forum, it will scout out your defined keywords in both the thread name and posts contained within the thread itself. It is highly recommended on ADISC that you use this Search feature before making any new threads on the forum, just to see if that particular thread hasn't already been posted before. This saves a lot of clutter on the forum, as well as members not having to tell you that a thread your topic already exists. The Search feature also allows you to set certain parameters, to give you a more defined search so you can find exactly what you are looking for, or you can find threads with certain Tags. The Advanced Search feature located within the Search link allows you to find threads with very specific search parameters. Quick LinksA drop down menu box that provides links to commonly used and accessed areas of the site. Mostly used a quick-navigation tool. Log OutLogs you out of your account. You will lose all your member privileges until you log back in again. Contribution FeaturesBlogsADISC has an integrated blog system that allows you to create and write to your own blog. A blog, in short, in an online journal where you can write about anything you want. It is your own personal space. The bonus is that it is more private and has more security than the forum, so if you are writing about a personal matter, you can have the ability to control who can and can't see/respond to your blog entry. Since ADISC is primarily a support site, a blog is a good way to get something off your chest or to have a rant and other members can comment and offer you their opinions and advice to help you out. But as aforementioned, you can write about anything you wish so it makes having a blog a great social tool to really get to know other forum members on a more personal level. Answers WikiIt's what you're on right now! The Wiki provides the main source of information about the website outside of the FAQ section, which deals primarily with the technical side of the ADISC. The Wiki allows ADISC members to contribute and submit their own information and articles to share with the rest of the community. Much like an encyclopaedia, the Wiki covers a variety of topics, touching on subjects both within and outside (but relative to) Infantilism and the ADISC website. The aim of this Wiki is to provide an objective, comprehensive information source for this fetish as a whole and to supplement the FAQ. As the site grows, we expect this Wiki to reflect that and become an great place to find information about this fetish. Donate! At present, donations can only be received via PayPal All websites requires money to run, due to the cost of servers and hosting among other things. Donating helps administration keep the site alive and running and it shows that you appreciate their efforts to bring you this community. Not only does donating help support the site, but it gives you access to features that can't be accessed any other way, or you have to earn. There are three levels you can gain from donating: Gold, Silver & Bronze, and each comes with it's own set of bonuses. Each level can be set as a once-off payment, or a recurring monthly payment. Please see the Donate! section for an outline of what additional features you can gain by donating. GalleriesThe Gallery is a section of ADISC where members can upload and share photos with the rest of the community. Please see the Gallery page for a more detailed overview. IRC ChatThe IRC Chat is an integrated, flash-based chat room in which you can communicate and converse with other members in real-time. However, the feature is rarely used on the site, so do not be surprised if no one is ever in the room when you join. It is highly recommended however that you join the ADISC IRC chat room. You will find there are always people in there, and whilst it's not active all the time someone will eventually spark a conversation. For more information on getting to the IRC chat room, please read the IRC Chat article. LinksThe Links and Downloads Manager section of the site allows users to submit links to other websites and is not limited to Infantilism-related sites. Most of the sections contain links to diaper vendors, adult-baby paraphernalia stores and other support sites. It is considered untactful to directly promote other websites in a thread (although posting a link to another site is fine, provided it's in context of the topic at hand). Forum members will request that you add your link to the Links section of the site if you wish to draw attention to another site you are recommending. CalendarThe Calendar allows you to view upcoming dates where people have marked an occasion. Most of the entries are people's birthdays and these are automatically added to the calendar if you choose to set your profile to show your date of birth. It also shows user-added entries, such as meet-ups. Entries can be added as a once-off event, a ranged event or a recurring event. This is done by selecting the appropriate category from the Add New Event box and filling out the form on the next page. |
