The breaking point that put you in diapers full time

What happened that was finally the point where you/your loved ones decided you needed to be in diapers full time?

So as I've mentioned before my bedwetting issues increased to the point that I began wearing diapers every night as a precaution, but I had a couple instances where I'd need to go #2, stand up to go to the bathroom and it was already too late. The first time I chalked it up as one of those things. The second time, which was a few weeks later, I realized that it was a lot less embarrassing to wear a diaper than it was to poop my pants. So between that and my BFF supporting this decision, I began wearing full time a few months ago. Since then a similar instance has occurred twice more. Yes, my doctor is fully aware of these issues and we've had discussions and I've seen specialists for it.

Having wet the bed as a child and teenager and being in nappies until I was about 15, I was then dry until a spinal injury in my mid 20s when I started to wet the bed again. It was very quickly every night and after going to my GP was referred to a urologist and also a neurologist as it was pretty much immediately put down to nerve damage. I was then referred to a continence nurse specialist and after trying various meds and sheaths/leg bags without success resorted to adult nappies with the support of my continence nurse. Been that way for the last 35 years, though now after subsequent spinal issues I am UIC 24/7, have no feeling of needing to wee, so in nappies 24/7. They allow me to lead a normal active life. I am also very lucky to have a wonderfully supportive wife of 30 years.

I have always had issues with wetting and pooping my pants though throughout my youth my parents never took me to see a doctor about it. For years I made sure to visit the toilet every 2 or 3 hours but I started wearing diapers about 4 years ago because the frequency of my wetting and pooping accidents got to the point that I was wetting times a day and a pooping accident 2 or 3 times a week. This was because at that point I was developing diabetic neuropathy and MS, the neuropathy made it where I can't feel when I need to go and the MS has caused decreased to control over my muscles.

Welcome to the IC sub-forum. Anyone who has these problems, that's you're here for. Nobody is going to call you out. At least here. I would suggest to adjust your profile so others here on our forum will know that you're incontinent.

If I'm reading under different threads, I often look at the poster's profile to see if they are actually IC. Sometimes it gives me a better understanding. I hate to says this but we do have several fakers.

It was a gradual transition to 24/7. I’ve had bladder and bowel accidents for as long as I can remember. However, my mom was against me wearing diapers as a young kid and pull-ups didn’t exist in the 70’s. I pretty much wore diapers occasionally when I was young. I had a series of surgeries and illnesses in my 20’s that caused me to have less control and to wear protection more often. I began wetting in my sleep and wearing diapers every night around 25. I wish things would have stopped there.

I had a bad kidney stone incident that sent me to the hospital and lots of doctors visits when I was 36. That was the final thing that dropped my bladder control to near zero. I started wearing 24/7 then, which was over 20 years ago. I’ve had lots of bladder and colon tests and have dysfunctional nerves in my smooth muscles. Most likely born that way and made worse by injuries, surgeries, and illnesses.

I guess I'm on the slow road to diapers. Over the last 3 years I have used guards, then pads, then pullups, back to pads if taking Cialis, back to pull-ups because of leg pains associated with Cialis. Not sure what the future holds but my incontinence was very light and would now occasionally moderate.

Mine started around 6, 7 or 8 years of age and meant that for one of my friends toilet trips I would go three or four times.😠
At times it was so embarrassing but I did all the tests and got a diagnosis and was reffered to a continence nurse who was a bitch and very unprofessional not helping much at all.
A few years later the concinence nurse changed and was replaced with a wonderful expert who I reckon was ic herself, striedhe got me to try all manner of things over many months but I was plagued by multiple infections with each one reducing just a little bit more of my control.
My wife bless her was and still is very supportive and that goes a long way to making things tolerable when it comes to protection etc.
Eventually it became Nappies 24/7 like it or not and I am now pretty much dual iC
and have to be very careful not to try and hold my wee as holding brings on a number 2# which happens too frequently these days.

My wife suggested nappies because my incontinence and nightly bedwetting were getting steadily worse.

I had OAB for some years before i got "the message" the hard way: Peeing my pants on the way to the toilet, standing in a puddle and that at home.
When it happened a second time that week, i decided i need some protection to go outside. Here it started.

And i must confess, i should have used them earlier to prevent stress, damage and a lot of pain.

Standing in line at the checkout during the pandemic was my wake up call. The washrooms everywhere were closed and I found myself unable to stop peeing while standing in line. The doctor later confirmed that I had nerve damage from decades of diabetes. Since then, things have progressed to include F-IC with diarrhea sometimes. I am struggling to control that with fibre.

My incontinence is the result of a surgical mishap when I was 14 years old in 1956. I have not been reliably dry at night since then and have always preferred to wear a nighttime diaper than risk waking up in a cold, wet bed. At first, I wore 24/7 but was a fanatic about doing what nowadays are called Kegel exercises. By the time I went to university, I had gotten to the point where I could go without a daytime diaper provided that I was in situations where I could get to a toilet within a very few minutes whenever an urge arose. In any other situation, I have needed and still need to wear a diaper during the day. Until I retired, I wore 24/7 for many years because my work situation did not reliably provide opportunities to get to the bathroom quickly enough during the daytime. Now after retirement, I am once again able to go without a daytime diaper when I'm at home, but wear whenever I'm away from home.

Circa 2003: On the way home from Physical Training I had an urge to pee. It quickly escalated and became very painful. I blacked out momentarily from pain and wet myself in the front yard. From that day on I have worn diapers whenever a toilet wasn't available or wetting myself wasn't an option.

My situation was a little bit different, I was sent to live with a caretaker and growing up, you'd have experience at least one to two bedwetting episodes, apparently I had soiled myself quite heavily during a nap that it ruined her couch. She wasn't upset about it, but did sought to buy diapers to help prevent another wetting accident.

At first I wasn't having it, but I think when I did use the diaper properly, my caretaker would encourage me and cheer me for putting trust into using my diaper, probably because she couldn't afford me damaging another piece of her furniture. In the end, her heartening words helped me into learn to accept wearing them more often, using them appropriately, and slowly I began to enjoy wearing and using diapers as now anywhere is my toilet.

I was in the hospital after getting COVID-19 and was in a coma for 31/2 weeks. They moved me to a private room because I had no idea. After a day or two I am not sure I was still kind of out of it. Anyhow I did not pee they came in and drained me. Late the next morning I rang for the nurse I had to pee. She showed up after I wet the bed. Then I wet the bed two or three times over the next couple of days. There was no holding it I could only hold it for maybe five minutes and the flood happened. So, the night nurse comes in and has an armload of diapers in her hands. We had a tenor twenty-minute discussion about wetting the bed and waiting etc. Meanwhile, I am sitting on a cold wet bed. I was 65 at this time and the last time I wet the bed I was a little kid. She won she diapered me up. and I stayed diapered for the next month. When I came home, they sent some home with me. The wife did not know. I was embarrassed and hid them. I tried Pull-Ups and yep those leaked. That is when I went back into diapers, and I told the wife about my wetting diapers. After 31/2 years I sort of sometimes regained but not really. They have found that some of the shots given have made some people temporarily incontinent and or permanently they are still doing studies.

Don't think I have ever had a mattress that didn't end up stained at some point.
