Northshore is selling your data and making you look like a fool

Installing ublock origin in your browsers, and enabling "EasyList" / "EasyPrivacy" in its filter options, will eliminate almost all the ads and trackers you normally encounter on the internet. Including personalized ads.
Spend two minutes setting it up, and you may never see ads again. It works on mobile, too. It is great.

DON'T use a VPN. You don't need one, they're an unnecessary expense that people think they need due to marketing, and they have hidden downsides.

Yes 🙌 people need to be aware of this. I did it manually through the IOS settings a year ago and I haven’t received personalized ads ever since.

I’m not exactly sure how I did but there’s videos all over YouTube, there’s so many ways you can expand your battery life by simply taking off ad tracking and other stuff it’s amazing. Apps literally sell your information to companies it’s quite scary. They treat us like bids

Vpn, proxy, and a web search engine like duck duck go. Never log into Google on the same device if you can help it. Google will tie across devices. If you must use Google in some cases create a burner account that you don't use for anything else.

They can be handy to mask your IP.

They don't really anonmize your traffic so that's a valid point. That however it because the big tech companies track users through a multitude of ways that make it child's play either way.

But to say you don't need a VPN at all? Well i agree that most people don't 😅

i feel like pointing out that northsore isnt selling your data, theyre buying it. youre getting targeted ads because theyve bought access to the cookies that show youve viewed content related to what they want to target with marketing. so blaming them for selling your data is misplaced. more likley you clicked on an online shop, porn site or forum with adult diaper tags that had tracking cookies and they sold that data to amazon etc who sell marketing space on sites like screenrant, and then companies like northshore will pay like.. $500 a month for a generic seo/marketing package that lets their ads appear for targeted tags. Sellers always get the blame for targeted ads but their involvment rarely goes beyond paying a monthly fee for a targeted package to a big marketing company.
like lots of people here have said the easiest way to avoid this kind of thing if its an issue for you is to pay for a vpn or cookie filtering service or just dont look up things youre not comfortable with getting blowback from on devices or networks that other people will see.

Agree. You really don't need a VPN unless you're doing something that you shouldn't be.

That is probably true for at least most home users.

Many businesses, however, use site-to-site VPNs and remote access VPNs in order to securely exchange information (with partners, etc.) over the Internet and to allow people to telecommute without sacrificing security (At least when the VPNs are implemented properly). This is all set up by the business itself without any need for a VPN provider.

It does, however, often involve expensive routers, hardware firewalls, and other technology that most Internet users do not have access to, mostly due the expense involved. Also, it is not exactly easy to set up for most Internet users…

Welcome to 2022. Nothing is private. Either get busy working on taking down Skynet or get comfortable with it. There’s really no other choice.

I use private browsing on Safari if you have an iPhone.
