How did folks get adult diapers before the internet?

No, they were first introduced in a white textured poly bag later they came in a box and eventually a poly bag again1cb8a6ba439d7044a922fd19a56b5245 (1).jpg

Around when did they come in textured bags? That's pretty interesting honestly, its pretty cool to imagine a bag of diapers having a package that felt similarly to the diapers it contains! I remember the boxes in the mid 80's if I'm remembering correctly but that's as far back as I can remember.

Kind of off topic but this reminded me of a fun thought I sometimes get which is wondering how "new" diaper kinks are relative to other kinks/fetrishes. Like, it can't be more than 70 years old if I had to guess

The boxes were certainly available in the early 1980s; I bought some then. I well remember the saleslady writing 'Diapers' on the store receipt.

The textured bags came along in 1985 or 1986, if I remember rightly. At that point, I was buying bags of SureCare fanfold 'diaper style' briefs rather than Attends, so I admit I was not paying much attention to the packaging.

I imagine there have been people who wanted to wear diapers for about as long as there have been diapers, which would mean since the Elizabethan era. Growing up in the 1960s, when modern disposables were only a dream, we had to make do with cloth baby diapers. My girlfriend sewed two Curity flats together to make diapers for me; she was doing that as late as 1987. Then I started buying Edley cloth diapers from DPF, which were wonderful ... and like being diapered in a beach towel in comparison to the old Curity flats.

the first pack I bought through the Sears catalog to help with my soiling issues would have been 15 or 16 and I was born in 1963 which puts it about 1978-79 I rode my bike to Sears to pick them up it was a textured plastic bag wrapped in shipping paper1cb8a6ba439d7044a96b5245 (1).jpg

you will also notice there is no wetness indicator on the diaper and it had the perforated plastic lining

That was slightly before my time then, I dont know why a textured bag just interests me. Was that perforated plastic lining the same as the later micro pore liner?

Drug stores, sometimes got luck at yard sales. Only brands in the 80's were depend and store brand cloth. I was small enough to fit into large pampers into my early teens. But alas I grew out of them.

When I was still a kid, the pampers and Huggies at the church nursery started my curiosity. I was in cloth and plastic pants as a baby and toddler irl. I put my curiosity and desire on hold for a long time. As a young adult I could just fit (comfortably) the largest size of Family Dollar dips with the duckies on the tapes.

From what I remember. We used money to buy diapers back then.

Boots the Chemist.

I thought the original Staydry adult nappies were amazing.

By modern standards they certainly weren’t!
Staydry were my first adult nappies and I thought they were amazing too! I was just so happy to be able to get hold of a nappy that would actually fit me!

I discovered Attends in 1988...first ones I got were at Drug Emporium, then also Fred Meyer. That stayed that way until after the turn of the century, after P&G sold out. And then all the good diapers were pulled off store shelves, only sold at sites such as HDIS. What tripe...
Similar to BobbiSueEllen, I discovered Attends in 1986. I was smitten … an instant attraction to plastic-backed disposables was formed. Back then (in USA), there wasn’t a Walgreens or CVS seemingly everywhere like there is today. I would search out all the family-owned drug stores, pharmacies, and home medical stores. There were quite a few back then in every city.

At age 18 it was incredibly embarrassing to walk casually into the store to find the adult diaper section. I would watch the cashier counter to make sure there wasn’t a line of people I would have to stand in waiting checkout. Then I’d grab a pack of diapers from the shelf and carry them quickly and discreetly to the checkout, hoping another customer didn’t come up behind me and see I was buying adult diapers.

I remember my heart racing, pounding in my chest with incredible anxiety every time I did this, hoping the checkout clerk didn’t ask any questions. About 10 years late around 1998 I remember being in a new home medical store, scanning the shelf at the diaper brands they sold, and an older almost retired female store clerk approached me out of nowhere, very aggressive, asking “can I help you find what you need, young man?”

I remember the lady had a very stern maternal personality, very dominating, and I was quite shy. I suspected she either thought I was a bed wetter and wore diapers myself, or she had knowledge of a diaper fetish. Oh how I wish I could go back to that day. I should have answered yes. It was so humiliating to have someone twice my age want to talk to me about diapers but I had an obsession and secretly hoped that would happen. I still do.

I first got mine at walmart and kmart. Walmart I used depends and then I used attends from Kmart. Some times I would buy from pharmacies or small medical supply stores but none of them had premium products. Then I was sent to a specialist at OU medical center. One of their urologists gave me a couple samples of the old purple molicare super back in the early 2000's. That and a catalog to order more from a company out of Missouri called HDIS. This is when I first found out what a difference a good IC product could make. I bought from them several years before finding the same product cheaper online years later. I have been buying online ever since. HDIS (home delivery incontinent supply) is still around but tranquility is the best product they sell now. Not that tranquility is the worse diaper but it is far from the best. I have used many companies over the years XPMedical was one that I used for years. But ow I am very happy with Northshore.

But long story short we just made do with what we had. I remember paying 8 bucks for a bag of depends tab briefs.
