For DLs in the sixtys and seventys what was your first diaper where did you buy it and how did you know if it would fit?

For me my firt=st diaper as a teenager was the Curity 21x40 cloth diaper. I bought it at a local drug store. It came in a package of 6. I didn 't know if it would fit but I just had to try it. I found out through trial and error to palce the diaper with the long side running up and down and the short side as the top of the diaper. I had about a 28 waist at the time so it was a good fit for me if I turned down the top of the diaper a few inches. I am now 73 and enjoy wearing diapers and plastic pants on a daily basis.

Thank you for this thread! I’ll probably answer several times. Hope you don’t mind. I turn 62 in November, not exactly right behind you, but that depends on who you ask, how young there are.

My first diaper I made from two of these, Toddler-size Pampers. Taped two together, side by side, with 1” wide surgically tape. They were a snug fit, but felt amazing, made me feel little, and secure. This was back in November, 1977. I was 15, rode my bike to Cunningham’s drugstore to buy them.

I’d say I hit upon wearing diapers because I was feeling extremely insecure. I’d recently had to change schools for being bullied. I just wanted it all to go away, and, from my past, saw early childhood as what would solve my problem. Obviously, there’s no going back, but being diapered was me self-medicating.

My life has really changed since then, but I’m still wearing early, z-fold Pampers, although for different reasons, pretty much just an enjoyable habit. Love to pin them and wear plastic pants. Hardly ever use them; sometimes I enjoy wetting, but I almost never poop them. I used to, but dealing with the aftermath is such a hassle. I should say though that one of the best number threes I ever had was in a soaked, pinned pre-fold and plastic pants I’d laid a huge log into.

My first real diaper would be Attends in 1988 maybe. But before that I used to create them using Pampers fanfold large overnights in the orange box. I would take a Glad kitchen white trash bag. They were the perfect size for the base. I would line the inside using two side by side layers of bounty kitchen towels. Using a clothes iron and a linen handkerchief. you could bond the paper towel the the trash bag. Then using the same technique, bond the Pampers, two end to end, to the Bounty paper towels. I did that for many years.

I think the first i tried were from Boots in the UK. They sold a disposable brief under the name AIDS [not appropriate today]. They were terrible! Did not fit well and had hardly any real absorption. I did not go dispisable until Tena cam along.

It’s terrific to read about someone else who made it work with early Pampers! I could never get away from the z-fold design, for the very reason they were discontinued, ironically! I absolutely love the bulk between my legs, a constant reminder that I’m in diapers because I’m a baby! Still wearing them, 45 years later, this photo taken this morning!

I‘m definitely going to try your clothes iron and thin handkerchief method. I’m very interested in perfecting my own processes. Curious as to what diapers satisfy you now. As I say, hourglass-shaped never made me as happy, though they did everyone else, I guess.

My first non-makeshift diapers were Sears adult prefolds along with their waterproof pants. Sears offerings didn’t do it for me. After a couple more diaper purchases I took to making my own. Lastly I stumbled upon Comco plastic pants. Comco pants atop my homemade diapers was absolutely perfect!

Yes, flat cloth diapers and plastic pants were widely available in the 70’s. But in my experience adult sized were only available mail order. Whatever, I’m with you, cloth flat are still the best.

I just used the baby flats that I could buy in the store. I still use the baby flats but now have to order them online. I bought 2 dozen of the OsoCozy flats in May 2019 that I'm still wearing.

This seems like a thread for enthusiasts who aren’t incontinent, just thought it would be fun or feel nice to be diapered. At least that’s me. You? I slept in them, too. Still do, every night. Just feels so good to be diapered in bed. Again, no incontinence, if I need to go, I get up, drop it like a pull up, go, then wriggle back into it. Quite easy and soon I’m sleeping like a baby again.

I believe Attends was the first brand of disposables I used in the 1980s too.

In wearing diapers/pretending to be a baby, I found a nice distraction that kind of made sense.

Correct, it was not for need. Growing up I was often night diapered till dry around age 9. The memories were/are potent. I first purchased diapers in hopes of reliving the excitement and shame. In time it worked.

I was in a similar situation as you were. With my parents always fighting I guess I wnted to go back to a safe place when I was a baby. Ialso bought a baby bottle to go along with my diapers.

I was wearing terry nappy squares well into my teens. as I got older they got bigger. My mother supplied them, not sure where they came from. First rubber and later plastic pants were also sourced. There used to be ads in the sunday papers back then for rubber pants (anyone remember South Bucks Rainwear?). My night time wetting came to an end but I was hooked and have worn on and off all my life.

I am an only child so it all fell on me. My first pair of plastic pants was made by me by stitching together 2 pairs of playtex toddler sized snap-on plastic pants.

Such good stories! I love your inventiveness and determination. Did you ever marry? Kids? Me? Both. Wife knows all, sees me like this all the time (we are empty nesters). She’d rather not, but understands that I don’t like to hide it from her. I could just tell her all the time that I’m still wearing diapers recreationally, but I’d much rather be open about it, let her see for herself. It’s as simple as a picture’s worth a thousand words. I need to be absolutely sure she knows exactly what it looks like so that I don’t feel like I’m hiding anything that she would find upsetting, because I just want to be accepted despite this pretty serious kink.
