I found this great tutorial on the internet (I'm currently using it with my Microsoft Lifecam) that tells you how to set up a webcam with a program so that when it detects motion, it starts saving images (you can change the time between images [seconds/minutes/Etc])
![]() I'm using it to hide my stash, you see.. my diaper stash is inside a drawer that lies under my bed mattress, you can see it here: ![]() My camera is hidden behind my TV (almost behind, to its side) so that anyone that comes in doesn't notice the camera. Guys guys (and gals)... I have caught an intruder! The intruder was able to get in my room without me noticing (at first), but my motion detecting web cam caught her!

This is going to be so helpful for dorm life (wish I had known about it two years ago). No longer must I harbor paranoid thoughts about if people have been in my room or not! And considering that I'll probably be moving into a new dorm this year (probably going to transfer if everything goes smoothly) that requires sharing rooms this is going to be even more invaluable.

Interesting that you mention this; i'm (eventually) going to setup something similar, with multiple cameras to cover the office area upstairs at my apartment. There is (or will be) a reasonable amount of expensive computer and telephony equipment here, and I want evidence to prosecute, should anything ever happen to it.
There was a case here (in the UK) where a thief was sucessfully convicted of theft using a similar setup. He even stole the PC recording the images, but wasn't aware that they were being forwarded to a remote server upon capture. He even provided a clear image of his face during the incident, how kind of him!
