The original Baby Jake

Sup ladies.
I have a question. Alright so... I have quite a few baby bottles in my collection of awesomeness. But, one of them hasn't been washed in a while. A long while. I don't even remember when it was exactly that I used this, so it could be a month or even longer that I've had this baby bottle hidden away. This baby bottle has a bit of milk still in it, obviously. I never got around to rinsing it out. Mostly because I lost my baby bottle cleaner, and was lazy. Well, I invested in a new bottle cleaner not too long ago. And I just remember that bottle sitting in my drawer making cheese. I'm wondering... Should I even bother to clean it? Or should I just throw it out? It's not like it smells. My drawer doesn't smell like mold or death. So I think it could still be safe. I'd of course be rinsing it with scalding hot water and plenty of dish soap. What does everyone think? And while I'm at it - someone please tell me if I'm the only lazy one here when it comes to sanitation/bottle cleaning. |

I've had this issue lately myself. I left a bottle in my drawer, and it went unused for about half a year. It was about half full, but only with water. I still decided not to use it, and threw it away, just in case any mold had grown around the bottle. It was a cheapo bottle, so I didn't mind parting with it. Now, if it was my nicer one, well... I would have probably posted the same question here as you did.
My only advise is... DONT drink the MILK! LOL |

I'm also not very good in cleaning my pans when I've used them, sometimes it can take 2 weeks (yes, I'm a dirty, lazy student) before they get washed, and I've never gotten sick.
So my advice would be: Just clean it thoroughly with lots of hot water and soap, and apply the smell test. If it smells clean and looks clean, it probably IS clean (or at least clean enough).

Well, I'd suggest washing it twice, if not soaking it overnight in soapy water to help dislodge any residue from the inside walls. Then wash it out and sniff it and inspect it visually. If it doesn't smell too much and doesn't have anything stuck to the walls of the bottle, I'd say it's usable. If not, try again or throw it away, I'd suggest.
I'm paranoid about my drinking utensils, so I usually wash anything I drink out of once or twice, even between drinks. |
