This is a sequel to the Perfect Shot, found here. You should probably read it first, before you read this. But, it's not essential you read it.
The Perfect Shot (Non *B/DL) Tell me how it is, and I'll continue with the story! --The Silent Assassin-- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Chapter 1 My barrel was tight. The clip was in securely. The scope was at its correct setting, and the safety was off. All I had to do was pull the trigger. But I couldn't. It was the biggest and toughest assignment I had ever received, as well as the most rewarding. $10,000,000. It was a complicated performance. First, I had to infiltrate a hotel about 3 days before the hit. I would scope out security, as well as staff working there, and find possible escape routes out of the hotel, in case the target tried to escape if my hit failed. Then I would get a list of the guests in the hotel. I needed to know exactly when the target would be checking in, his wake-up times, and when he would check out. The target would be staying for six days, plenty of time for me to take him out. After I did that, I needed to get the target's security detail. Exactly how many bodyguards he had, what kind of weapons they were packing, and their patrols and posts. Finally, I had to wait. I'd rent a room in the hotel across the street, directly across from the target's bedroom, and just wait for the day of the hit to come. I picked a time when the bodyguards were between shifts, so that they weren't as prepared as they would be when they were already in position. 7:47 P.M, Friday evening. After I made the hit, I'd get my partner to drive his Corvette 2 blocks from the hotels. That would put us outside of their immediate search area, as well as any suspicion they had towards us. It seemed flawless. The one problem was my partner. He was new, I had only used him twice before, and they were low-priority missions. But this was big. He had to perform perfectly, or his inexperience could cost us our lives. Four hours before the hit was to go down, my partner, Robert, called me up and told me he needed to change the location of my pick-up. He thought our current location was too exposed, and said he'd pick me up in a parking garage three blocks away. This changed my plan dramatically, and it forced me to alter my escape route. I'd have to walk an extra 6 minutes, when every minute counted in my escape. The police would be storming the scene, looking for me. I altered my plan, and three and a half hours later, it was 7:19. Exactly 28 minutes before I had to make the hit. I set up in my hotel room, which was on the 18th floor. I walked out onto the spacious deck, and looked across the street with a pair of binoculars. The target was in his room, exactly on schedule. Four guards were standing outside on the deck, two of which carrying automatic weapons. Walking back into my hotel room, I opened up my sniper case which lay on the bed. The jet-black weapon lay in the case, along with a box of ammunition, a scope, a clip, and a silencer. I looked as though it were impatient, waiting to be used. Setting the gun on the table, I pulled out the scope and attached it to the top of the rifle. Next, I grabbed the silencer and screwed it on the end of the barrel. Then I set the box of ammunition and clip on the bed and poured out 20 bullets. I slowly inserted them into the clip, making sure they didn't spill onto the floor. I slapped the clip into the rifle, and cocked the slide. It was ready to go, all I had to do was pull the trigger, and it would fire. I set the rifle onto the floor, and opened the bipod. Then I turned to my bag, which was still on the table. Inside was a holster, a silenced 9mm pistol with two extra clips, and a cell phone. I secured the holster around my leg, and inserted the gun inside, storing the extra clips in the side pouch. Carrying the cell phone and picking up the sniper rifle, I looked at my watch. It was now 7:41. I had less than 6 minutes to make the hit. Opening up my cell phone, I opened up a photo with all the target's information: John Craig. 28 years old. U.S. Senator for the state of Texas. Running for President of the United States. Youngest presidential candidate in history. It was a big hit, but it would be worth it if I succeeded. Very worth it. I would give Robert $4,000,000, and then take a vacation for 3 months. I looked at my watch again, and realized I had lost track of time in my thoughts. It was 7:45. I had only a minute left to prepare. I opened the balcony door and laid down, half of my body inside the room, and the other half on the deck. I had a clear view of Craig's room. I could see him opening the door to his balcony. This was perfect, I had an excellent shot. I recalled something another sniper had once told me, "Give yourself three seconds to take the shot," he said. "On the first, aim. On the second, breathe. And on the third, pull the trigger." I aimed directly at Craig's head. His glasses were fogged up due to the humid evening air, as well as the steam coming from his coffee mug. I was just about to switch off the safety, when the sliding door opened again. Out stepped a woman, carrying a toddler boy, about 2 or 3 years old. It was his wife. This caught me by surprise. "Shit," I whispered to myself. I moved the cross hairs of the rifle off of Craig's head. "Go back inside, lady. You're going to cost me 10 million dollars." They were talking to each other, and laughing. My watch beeped, giving me a 30 second warning. "Come on, damn it," I said louder. "Get out of there!" Only ten seconds later, she walked back inside. "Thank God," I said, relieved. I aimed once more at his head. I was about to pull the trigger, when I saw the young boy staring out the window at his father. He looked happy, he was smiling. I had to kill Craig, it was my job. But I just couldn't do it. Not in front of the little boy, at least. I reached for my phone, and speed-dialed Robert. He immedately picked up. "Yes James?" he said. "Robert, change of plans. I'm going into the hotel and taking out Craig there." "What? James, you can't! That's extremely risky! That place is crawling with security." "I have an idea, Rob, meet me in the lobby of the Grand Hotel in 5 minutes." I hung up, and unscrewed the silencer on the rifle. I detached the scope, and put both in the rifle case. I pulled out the clip and set it in as well. Then I put the rifle itself in, and closed the case. Then I unholstered my pistol and transferred it to my shoulder holster, hidden inside my suit. I detached the thigh holster from my leg and put it in my bag. Then I grabbed the bag and the case, along with my cell phone, and walked out into the hallway. I ducked into the elevator nearby, and punched the lobby button. the elevator descended for 30 seconds, and then stopped on the third floor. Two people came in, and they were also en route to the lobby. The three of us exited on the lobby floor, where I immediately spotted my partner. He gestured me towards the hotel entrance, where I could see his Corvette parked in front of the building. When we got outside, the cool evening air was a refreshing feeling. It was rare that the air was this nice in Dallas, so I took advantage of it. He opened the passenger door to his car, and I stepped in. He got in on the other side, and we drove off to the parking garage. When we got there, he turned off the engine. "What's this all about?" he asked me. "Robert, contact the client. I'm going to get us double the offer. We're going to get $20,000,000." ~~~~~~~~~~ Last edited by TheFoxxehAssassin; 06-08-2009 at 03:23 AM. |
