I had an interesting story idea while I was bored at work today. It's about a child born in our time with an interesting "defect".....he has wings! He becomes a prophet of sorts, against his will, and then some crazy stuff happens. It's not fully fleshed out yet, but here's what I have for an intro. The title is just what I have for now, thinking of a better one.
ACCIDENTAL ANGEL They said it was a miracle. But Alexandria Michelle Scott felt that her abnormal child was a curse. Nine months previous, after she had broken the then-happy news to her husband, he had left her in their Saint Anthony home, alone, with a baby on the way. Gerard Scott, her now ex-husband, had said he would love her through thick and thin, in sickness and in health. But as soon as this pregnancy had reared its ugly head, he had fled from her life. Brokenhearted and furious, Alexandria blamed the child for her woes. Her parents and close friends had done their best to support her, but she still suffered a deep depression throughout her entire pregnancy. It had hit her hard physically as well - terrible morning sickness, cramps, the works. She had tried to do stretches and light exercises to ease the pain, but nothing seemed to help. During the last month of her pregnancy, she became so irritable that only her mother stayed around to help her. She herself had borne five children, so she was much more understanding and empathetic towards Alexandria’s suffering. Soon enough, the big day arrived, and Elana, Alexandria’s mother, drove her to the hospital. Eleven hours of intense and horrendously painful labor later, Alexandria finally gave birth to her son. After the birth, she was too exhausted to stay awake, so the doctors gave her some light painkillers and let her rest. They took the child to the nursery, where the obstetrician had to discuss an rather urgent matter with his nurse. The child had wings. |

“What do you MEAN, nothing can be done?”
“Please, Miss Scott, you must understand. This is like nothing we’ve ever seen before. The...erm, the wings are attached in such a way that attempting to remove them could result in partial of even full paralysis of the torso and arms. But....given time and your permission to....study the child, we could possibly find a way to remove them.” “Could?! Possibly?! Do you have ANY idea what I’m going through right now, you quack?!” Alexandria was hysterical. The doctors were telling her that no matter what, she would have to raise a freak child - a baby with wings. “I don’t want him. Put him up for adoption.” “Miss Scott, please, I beg you. Consider just for a moment-“ “I AM NOT RAISING A FREAK BABY,” she screamed, her voice cracking with anguish and rage. “Alexandria! Calm down!” Elana had entered the room, and strode quickly to Alexandria’s side. “Mother, don’t tell me you want me to raise this freak child! This....mutant!” “Alexandria! Whether or not this child is normal, he is still your child! Just because he’s a bit different does not give you the right to abandon him!” “So first my husband leaves me, and now I have to raise a freak all by myself? Is that fair, mother?!” “You won’t be alone, Alexandria. I’ll help you. Now, what do you want to name him?” “I don’t care, mother. You name him. I just want to go home.” |
