Adam's Little Brother

Okay, first things first. This story contains some things such as:
-Death -Extreme Violence -Creepy Sock Puppets -Zombies (and all the things that come with them) That said, this is my first story, it's a zombie story with some TB/DL thrown in. Skinnypuppy was kind enough to look it over for me, which gave me the confidence to post it. Enjoy. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Apocalypse Chapter One “Good morning Little Falls, Georgia! This is Dex with your early morning radio, playing your favorite songs of today.” Alec groaned as his radio alarm clock played. He slapped his hand on his alarm clock, hitting the “off” button. He groggily got out of bed, put on his contacts, and looked at his calendar. “Friday the 13th,” he thought, “Great for my last day of school.” He made his way to his kitchen, and quickly fixed up a pop-tart. He noticed his parents were both gone again, and he could only assume they were at work early again. He took a seat, turning on the TV in the side of the room and stuffed his pop-tart into his mouth. “-running rampant throughout the state. We have dozens of confirmed reports of massive rioting, in which people are being bitten and cannibalism is occurring. Strangest yet, people who are being bitten are joining in the riots shortly afterward. The local police are alerting people in the following counties to stay inside and lock their doors.” The anchorman proceeded to list several counties in Georgia, none of which were Alec’s. He stared at the TV. This was freaky. Alec shrugged the idea out of his head. He would worry about it later. He got dressed, combed his fine blonde hair, and ran to the bus stop for school. Only a few minutes later, the bus creaked up. And Alec entered, taking his usual seat. Just a bit later, Marcus came on. Marcus was Alec’s best friend for years. Another interesting thing about their relationship was they always told each other everything; including the fact that Alec was a TB. Marcus sat down next Alec. “Hey man. What’s up?” Marcus asked. “Not much. I’m getting my final grades today. Mr. Krowley said I passed shop, so I’m stoked about that.” “Great job man. I think I passed sewing.” “You’re such a girl. Sewing?” Alec joked “For your information, I’m great at it.” Marcus retorted. The bus rolled to a stop, and the students began filing out of the bus and into the school. Alec went to homeroom, wondering why the school had a bus stop only three blocks away from the school. He still couldn’t figure it out. The last day of school was just a day to relax, and celebrate graduating from High School. The graduation ceremony wouldn’t be until tomorrow. He was the Valedictorian of the class if 2014. He got to his seat, and found his report card. He got all A’s, just like every report card he’s gotten since 2nd grade. He looked a few seats back to Marcus, noticing the happy look on his face. “Attention Students! This is a 911 emergency! This is not a drill” The secretary screamed frantically into the intercom. “The police have been called and-” her voice stopped. The homeroom teacher sprinted to the door, locking it. Everyone moved to the back of the room. Alec looked around, noticing that a few people were shaking in fear, and one girl was sobbing quietly. “They probably think it’s one of those cannibal attacks, no wonder they’re terrified. Being eaten alive by a bunch of insane people…” Alec noticed. There was suddenly frantic banging at the door, causing a number of students to jump. Alec was able to see who it was through the small window on the side of the door. It was a girl who was obviously a student. “Please! Open the door, they’re almost here!” she screamed. The teacher moved to the door, unlocked it, and opened it. The girl ran in, as the teacher slammed the door. It didn’t close. A bloody hand had gotten in between the door and its frame. The door flew open as a group of people pushed it open. The group swarmed in, several of them pushing down the teacher. Everything happened so fast. Alec could only gasp as the group surrounded his teacher, while the rest of the class tried to run out the door, most of whom didn’t make it far before being grabbed. “Marcus,” Alec screamed, “we have to get out of here!” Alec opened the window and jumped out, with Marcus close behind. One of the cannibals made it to the window, hitting it in an attempt to get through. With each pound he splattered more blood across the window. “Why is he banging on the window? Couldn’t he just climb out if he wanted to get to us?” Marcus asked. “I don’t know…” Alec said. He looked around They were in one of the small side courtyards, surrounded by walls on three sides, with a fairly large tree on the side of one. He looked back at the thing banging on the window as several more of those things began banging on it. “What the hell are they?” Alec asked himself. He noticed a crack forming and growing with each fist that hit the window. “Marcus. We have to leave NOW! These things are about to break through. He heard a groan behind him. He and Marcus both turned to see a woman coming toward them. Alec noticed that she was dragging her left leg, and the arm of the same side seemed to be limp. Alec looked for a way to get away. “Marcus. It looks like she can’t use her left arm or leg. If we run past her left side we could have a chance of getting out of here.” “This could help.” Marcus said as he succeeded in pulling of a good sized branch of the tree. Marcus led the way. He ran to her left, smacking her in the face with the branch. She stumbled backward with a crack. Marcus threw the branch at her, and continued running. “Well, looks like it didn’t really matter what side of her we ran past after all,” Alec noted, “we should get to my house. My dad has a few shotguns in the basement. I doubt those people would be stupid enough to try to get us when they’re staring into the business end of a gun.” “Okay, good idea. That could help until the police have things under control.” Marcus stated. They ran as fast as they could, until Alec stopped. “What is it?” Marcus asked, grinding to a halt. Alec could only point to the chilling scene. Several police officers were being overwhelmed by a group of people. Alec began shaking as he heard the first officer scream in agony. “I don’t think the police will have things under control anytime soon.” Marcus said, “we need to keep going. Those things will come after us next.” “O-Okay.” Alec stuttered. He continued running with Marcus until they reached Alec’s house. His mother’s van was in the driveway. Alec ran up to it. Nothing seemed wrong with it, maybe she was still safe. Alec and Marcus went into the backyard. “We should take some other weapons, just in case we can’t use the guns. My dad keeps some equipment in the shed,” Alec said. He opened the shed, and grabbed a shovel and a small sledgehammer. They opened the back door and walked into Alec’s house. “My dad keeps the gun safe locked with a combination lock. It’s 34, 7, and 61. Go get them while I try to find my mom.” Alec whispered “Okay Alec. Good luck.” Marcus whispered back as he went down into the basement. Alec began looking around, and found his mother lying in bed. “Mom! Come on! We need to leave now!” Alec said. His mother began getting up. Alec turned around and began walking toward the basement. Suddenly, he felt his mother grab his shoulder, and forced him to ground. He looked back toward her. That’s when he noticed the bloodstain on her shirt. “She’s become one of them… why?” Alec asked as he grabbed her throat to stop her from biting him. Her mouth was wide open, and she was pulling his hair to try to get his head closer to her own. “Why is she trying to bite me? What happened to you mom?” Alec wondered, crying. The pain was too much for him to bear. She was getting closer and closer to him. Trying to push her harder, his hands slipped of her throat. She lunged at him. Chapter Two Alec moved his head just in time. His mother’s face smashed into the ground, and Alec used the opportunity to roll his mother off of him. He got up while his mother tried the same, some blood dripping down her face. Alec grabbed the shovel, and faced his mother who had made it to her feet. “I’m sorry.” Alec said, tears forming in his eyes. His mother lunged at him one last time, only to be put down by Alec’s shovel. She attempted to get up again, but Alec beat her until she didn’t move. He fell to his knees sobbing. He had just killed his own mother. “No!” He thought, that… thing… it wasn’t his mother anymore. He hadn’t killed his mother, he had released her from whatever it was that did this to her. Alec got up, and was able to stop himself from crying anymore. He needed to find Marcus, and make sure he was all right. Alec walked back into his living room, and saw Marcus relaxing on the couch, with 2 pistols, a shotgun, and a sack that Alec guessed was filled with all the ammo his father kept with the guns. “Hey, did you find your mom?” Marcus asked upon seeing Alec. “Unfortunately, yes.” Alec responded, nearly crying again. Marcus knew what he meant. Marcus got up and hugged Alec. “I’m sorry Alec, I really am, but we need to go. If we stay here much longer those people could find us.” Marcus stated. “These aren’t people Marcus. Put it together! My own mother, who would have died for me, just tried to eat my fucking face! Something is making people turn in to those. What ever they are, they aren’t human.” Alec replied. Marcus could only stare. Alec was right. Marcus grabbed the shotgun and a pistol, while Alec grabbed the other pistol and the sack. He walked over to the front door and grabbed the key to his mothers van. She certainly wouldn’t need it. “Marcus, take the keys, unlock the van, and dump the guns in the back seat. I’m going to go get my spare backpack and fill it with some supplies.” “Okay. Just hurry up with it.” Marcus responded while taking the keys. Marcus walked out the door. Alec ran upstairs to his room, and found his spare backpack. He thanked his luck that he kept the big one as his spare, and he walked over to his special trunk. Alec opened it and removed the false bottom, revealing all the baby items he had acquired over the past year. He stuffed his 2 favorite sleepers, his NUK 5, his favorite bottle, and his pack of bambinos into the smallest part of the backpack, barely making them fit. “No sense letting these go to waste.” Alec thought aloud. He grabbed some clothes and filled the medium sized section of the backpack. He went back downstairs into his kitchen, and put all the canned food he could fit into the largest part. Alec calmly walked back outside and to the van, and dumped his things in the back seat. “Alec… what do you think is going on? It’s too weird.” Marcus asked from the passenger seat. “I have no clue, but we can’t worry about that now. I’m going to stop over by your house so you can pick up anything you need to. I’ll go in with you to watch your back.” Alec stated. Marcus nodded. A short drive later, they arrived at Marcus’s house. Alec went in first, and checked every room only to find it was completely empty. He and Marcus were gone within the next five minutes. “Listen Alec, we need to call your dad and my parents. My cell phone is busted; we need to go get your cell phone from the school.” Marcus said bluntly. “Why didn’t you try calling them at one of our houses?” “The lines are busted or something. Neither of the phones worked.” “Fine, we’ll go get my phone. But that place was infested with those monsters… those zombies… so we need a game plan first,” Alec retorted, “any ideas?” “I think we should just go in from the doors closest to your locker.” Marcus suggested. Alec sighed. “As good a plan as any, I suppose.” They parked the car near the side entrance, and they both left the car; Alec with a pistol and Marcus with the shotgun. Alec crept into the hallway, Marcus close behind. Alec noticed a student shambling in the hallway, and he quickly shot her. She fell to the ground instantly. Alec couldn’t help but be thankful for his father teaching him how to shoot. He ran over to his locker, and opened it. He quickly found his cell phone and quietly closed his locker. “Alec, we need to go. I doubt they didn’t hear that shot.” Marcus said. Alec nodded, and they quietly headed for the exit toward their car. Alec suddenly heard a chorus of groaning. He looked behind him. There was a massive group of students, teachers, and several others slowly advancing toward them. He and Marcus started sprinting to the exit, only to have several of the monsters shamble into their way from the classrooms nearby. Alec charged through, firing at them. He felt them grab at him, but none of them got a good grip. He and Marcus ran out the door, only for Alec to be pushed to the ground by a bloody police officer. He attempted to bite Alec, only to be shot off by Marcus. “Hurry up, they’re right behind us!” Marcus screamed. Alec made it to the car along with Marcus, and they quickly sped away. “Holy crap!” Marcus shouted, “That was terrifying. Thank god we made it out of there.” “Yeah. That was to close, especially over a cell phone.” Alec continued driving. He passed the same area in which he watched the police get over-whelmed. All that was left was a blood-stained cruiser. “What the hell is that over there?” Marcus pointed to the side. Alec looked, only to see a woman running from more of those things. He quickly sped over to her, and rolled down his window. “Get in! Hurry!” Alec shouted. The woman opened the back seat’s door, and jumped in, closing the door behind her. Once she was safe, Alec drove as far away from the group as he could. “I can’t thank you enough. They would have killed me for sure. What’s your name?” the woman asked. “I’m Alec, he’s Marcus. And you?” Alec asked. “I’m Denise.” She said, “So where are you headed?” “We weren’t sure. We just wanted to get out of here.” Alec responded. “You haven’t heard, have you?” Denise asked, “The virus has spread throughout the country. There aren’t any safe places left.” “Virus? What the hell are you talking about?” Marcus interjected. “I saw it on the news. Apparently all this is from some modified virus. People who hadn’t turned yet ended up trying to get away from it, only to turn and infect entire cities. New York is completely quarantined thanks to it,” Denise said, “I hear that the bus station is safe for now. We could try heading there.” Alex grimaced. “Fine, it’s better than driving around.” He said. Alec turned to the direction of the bus station. “Okay, once we get to the station, we need to call your dad. Maybe he can tell us what’s going on. If anyone knows about the virus, it’s the CDC. Then I’ll-Oh shit! Alec, look out!” Marcus screamed. Alec looked over just in time to see an SUV smash into Marcus’s side of the van. Alec was unconscious instantly. Okay, thanks for all the positive comments (all 3 of them :P) so here's chapter 3.
Chapter Three Alec slowly opened his eyes as he began waking up. The first thing he noticed was the pain in his arm. He rolled down his sleeve, and looked at it, noticing the bandages wrapped around it. That’s when he noticed he was in a garage, lying in a sleeping bag. He looked out the window, through which he could see a full moon. He tried to get up, only to experience an awful pain in his side which made him quickly lay back down. After only a short while of waiting, a man in a paramedic outfit came in. “I see you’re awake, that’s great,” he said, “you’ve been out for a few days since your arrival.” “Where am I? How did I get here?” Alec asked. “You’re at the town bus station. About 2 days ago a woman came here in a police cruiser, with you and several weapons in the back seat. Shortly after arriving, the woman started vomiting and began presenting flu-like symptoms, followed by her going into a coma for a day. We had no choice but to quarantine her. Yesterday, she turned and we had no choice but to kill her.” The Paramedic stated. “Did there happen to be a guy with her?” Alec asked. “Aside from you, no. It was just you and her.” The paramedic answered. Alec sighed. He hoped Marcus had survived, and now with Denise gone he had no way of knowing what happened. “Thank you. How long will it be before I can move again?” Alec asked. “Well, you’re making a quick recovery, so tomorrow if you’re lucky. You seem to be, since the glass embedded in your arm and side didn’t kill you,” the man replied. With that, he left the room. Alec suddenly felt exhausted, and he fell asleep again in a few seconds. He woke up in the same room, but this time it was day. He got up, only feeling a sharp pinch in the areas that caused him agony the other day. That’s when he noticed he was wearing not only one of the footed sleepers he had brought with him, but a bambino as well. Alec figured they saw the diapers and thought he needed them, and decided to make him more comfortable with the sleeper. He slowly walked to the window; outside were a large number of tents, along with several armed men patrolling the area. He also noticed several men working on the dozen or so buses. Alec looked around a bit, and found his backpack. He took off his sleeper, and got changed into some jeans and a T-shirt, deciding to keep his diaper on. “I see you’re up and about, and you found your clothes.” Alec turned around to see the paramedic. “Yeah. What’s going on out there?” Alec asked. “There’s a military base to the north. We’re setting up a convoy to get everyone there. It’s probably the safest place within the state,” the paramedic stated, “There’s a TV in the next room over. You may want to watch the news, to see if what you missed.” “Thanks. I’ll do that.” Alec said. He opened the door to the next room. There was a small TV sitting on a table, with 3 people gathered around it. Alec walked over and started watching. An anchorwoman was on the screen. “The HZV, also known as the ‘Human Zombie Virus’ has continued spreading, and has been confirmed in countries such as Mexico, Canada, and England. The entire U.S. has been infected, and the National Guard located at New York City has pulled out in an attempt to regroup. Washington D.C. is believed to be the only clean zone left in the country, but these reports are un-confirmed,” She said. Alec couldn’t believe it. He walked out of the room, wondering what to do now. Then he remembered his cell phone. It was in his pant’s pocket when he got in the crash. He ran back to the garage, and opened his bag. He found the pants he wore during the crash luckily, and fished in the pocket. He pulled out his cell phone. It was crushed. He had almost died for nothing. He threw the remains of his phone on the ground, smashing it even more. He had no idea what to do. He put his pants back in his bag. “Attention! The convoy will be ready to go in 5 minutes. Make sure you have anything you need by then,” Alec heard someone say through a megaphone. Alec zipped his backpack, and walked outside. He looked over to the buses, which were being filled with gas. “Fuck! We need help over here!” Alec looked over to where the voice came from. An area of the chain link fence around the station had fallen down, and a horde of zombies began swarming the area. Everyone with a gun ran over and began firing. Alec found the pistol he had in his pack, and joined in immediately. The horde continued its advance. “There isn’t any way we’ll win,” Alec thought, “our only hope is to get to the buses.” Alec continued firing. “Everyone! Get on the buses!” Alec screamed. Most people took his advice, and ran into the buses. Alec made it into the first one, and found a CB radio near the front. He grabbed the microphone. “Start the convoy! Hurry!” he spoke into it. The busses began moving, plowing down any zombies in the way. Alec breathed a sigh of relief. They were safe for now. He looked around the bus. It was slightly over half full. He spoke into the radio again. “How many did we lose?” Alec asked. “From what I saw, we lost over 20 people. We probably have about 40 left. One of the ones down was Alexandra, she was in charge,” it was the paramedic’s voice. Alec resolved to find out his name later. “Okay. Since Alexandra’s gone, I’m going to take charge. If anyone has any objections, tell me now.” Alec said. The radio was silent. “Good, I appreciate the cooperation. We’ll figure out what to do once we reach the base.” Alec stated. “Sir, we hadn’t finished fueling. Bus three isn’t completely full. We’re going to need to stop for gas.” A voice said over the radio. “Okay. We’ll stop at the nearest gas station. Bus three will stop at the pumps, and the other busses will act as a barricade to keep the zombies away while they refuel. It’ll save us ammo.” Alec commanded. They stopped at the nearest gas station, and refueled. Alec’s plan worked perfectly. They continued driving, emptying the busses’ toilet system at every refueling stop. After several, they arrived at the military base. Alec took his pistol, and walked into the courtyard with several men behind him. He looked around. It was completely deserted. He looked up at the American Flag. “That can’t be good.” He thought. The flag was up-side down. There was blood in several areas near it, but there were no bodies. The only thing that could mean: the soldiers turned. Alec went back to the busses. “Okay, we need everyone with a weapon out here.” Alec stated into the CB radio. He walked back out to the courtyard. Alec noticed a soldier walk out of a building. Alec slowly walked over, pistol aimed at him. The soldier turned toward Alec, and put his hands in the air almost instantly. “P-please! Don’t shoot! I’m not one of them” the soldier stuttered, shaking in fear. “Obviously. Are you the only one left?” Alec asked. “No, there are about 3 more guys in the barracks. We don’t have any weapons though,” The soldier stated, beginning to ease up. “Where are the weapons?” Alec asked. “They’re in the armory, but the place got overrun. My name’s George by the way.” The soldier said. “I’m Alec. If we give you a gun, would you be willing to help us get in to the armory?” Alec asked. “Sure, I just don’t think I’ll be much help. I’ve been feeling a bit nauseous lately.” George stumbled a bit, before turning around and vomiting. |

Here's chapter 4. Now that I've posted all the chapters I have, I'll have to write the next chapter, so that may be a while to get done. Anyway, Chapter 4 is a bit shorter than the others, but it's interesting none the same.
Chapter Four Marcus woke up to an agonizing pain in his side. He looked down to it, and screamed when he noticed a large chunk of the van stabbing through his side. He tried pulling it out, but it wouldn’t budge. He crawled out of the van as best he could. He looked back into the van. Alec and Denise were no where to be found, nor were the guns. “They must have thought I died and ran off. They probably went to the bus station.” Marcus thought. Marcus limped over to the back. The sledgehammer was still there. He took it out, and used it as a crutch as he walked down the street. He needed to find help fast. The pain overwhelmed him, forcing him to the ground. That’s when he heard the groaning. He looked over to a house as several of the monsters came out of it. He got to his feet and prepared his sledge. When they got close enough, he swung his sledge, taking one of them out instantly. He swung again, but this time it grabbed the sledge. Marcus tried to yank it out of its grip, but he could only let go as the pain in his side intensified. He fell backward and on to the ground. One of them got close enough for Marcus to kick it, which caused him even more agony. He tried to get up, only for one of them to push him back down. “This is it…” he thought, “I’m going to die here.” Marcus closed his eyes, hoping he would die quickly. BANG! Marcus opened his eyes. One of the things fell over, a hole in its head. Marcus looked over to where the sound came from. There were 2 men, each with a hunting rifle. They fired until all of them were dead. “You okay kid?” the older one asked. “Yeah. I guess so. Thanks.” Marcus responded. “We’re heading over to the bus station. It’s the only safe place left. We can bring you with us, get that wound fixed up. Only thing is, there’s only room for 2 people in my pick-up truck. You’ll have to ride in the bed.” The younger one said. “That’s fine. One of my friends is probably there, and I need to make it to him.” Marcus stated. He limped over to the men’s truck, and was able to slide himself onto it without much pain. After a short drive through town, they arrived at the bus station. Marcus was stunned. Bodies were all over, with a creature or two stumbling around. The men got out, and after shooting down anything that was shuffling around, Marcus looked around. None of these bodies was Alec. Maybe he had made it. “Kid… kid!” Marcus looked over the side of the bed. A man covered in blood was crawling toward him. “What happened here?” Marcus asked. “They broke down the fence… some of us made it to the buses. They’re heading to Fort Faraday. Hurry up, and you can get there soon,” the man said, “please, kill me now. I don’t want to turn into those things.” “It’s the least I can do,” Marcus said. He grabbed his sledgehammer and smashed in the man’s head. The men walked back. “We couldn’t find anything kid. Sorry about your friend.” The younger one apologized. “No, I found out where the survivors went. Fort Faraday. Let’s hurry.” Marcus said, getting comfortable in the bed. The man nodded, and got into the truck. Marcus looked out into the distance as they drove, occasionally see a shambler. The hum of the engine eventually put him to sleep. When he woke up, he was in the back room of a gas station, the older man sleeping next to him. He tried to get up, only to feel the pain caused by the twisted metal. He looked over at it; one of them had tied a bandage around both his wound and the shrapnel to stop what little bleeding there was. He felt sick. The metal was stopping some of his blood flow. He looked out the open door. The younger man was looking out the window into the darkness of midnight with a rifle in his hand. Marcus got up, ignoring the pain, and limped over to him. “Where are we?” Marcus asked. “We’re about three quarters of the way there. We needed to refill and decided to stay here for the night. I was about to turn on the TV to see what’s going on.” The man said. He walked over to a small TV under the counter and turned it on. “For more information on the zombies, including methods on how to stop them, go to www.fvza.org. From what we understand, Martial Law has been declared in the US, and several other nearby countries. The virus has spread to more countries, including Yemen, Chile, Argentina, and Scotland. The FVZA has been re-created and is currently dealing with this crisis.” The man turned off the TV. “Get some rest. We’ll be leaving early in the morning. We should get there in only a few hours once we leave.” He said. Marcus nodded, and limped back into the back room. He laid back down and quickly fell asleep, hoping Alec was alright.
