That's right, it's time for another ADISC choose your own adventure!
This is an excercise that allows me to hone my writing skills, while giving the community something fun to do. I write up a section of story, and you help decide where it goes next. The last one (The Beach) was not TBDL themed, but this one will be. As some of you may know, The Beach was canceled due to some complications, but hopefully, this time, we won't have any of those problems. The story for the most part is completely original, but the general idea and theme is borrowed from a well-known author. Within reading this first post, you should be able to guess who. If you've ever read a choose your own adventure novel, then you know what to do. Same thing, except the decision the character makes are made by the community. I need at least three votes per update in order to continue the story. Anyway, the rules: Rule #1 There are no rules! Rule #2 You can only vote once per update. Rule #3 If you don't like the story or the game, you can simply ignore the thread. No need for any drama. The main character of the story ( who will be referred to as "you" throughout), will be a teen of unspecified age. But it will be written from a male's perspective, just because it's easier that way. It's called "Rough Edge" and is about a kid who is shipped off to an obscure family relative after his parents, who work exciting jobs as agents for the government, are called out on some secret mission. This relative lives in a small fishing town; Postville, Newfoundland, Canada. It's a town of about 300, is located on the coast, and is only accessible by rail. Some suspension of disbelief may be needed for this story, so just roll with it. Let's begin. |

Rough Edge
Part 1: Welcome to Postville As the train clanked to a stop, you sneaked a bored look out your passenger window. Yep, this was definitely everything you expected it to be. Ten hours on a train and not much to show for it. And your behind really, really hurts from sitting down for so long. You can't see much of the town outside of the window. There's a tiny train platform and a tickets office, but that's all. You grab your bags, filled with pretty much everything you own, and head for the train door. There aren't many people on the train, which is easy to understand because this place is in the middle of nowhere and is close to nothing. Oh well, it's your home till your parents get back from their government mission. You exit the train and walk onto the platform. Amongst the small crowd you spot a woman holding up a sign with your name on it. You walk towards her and she notices you. "Oh! You're finally here!" she practically shouts into your ear as she embraces you in a suffocating hug. You half-heartidly hug her bag. You've never seen this woman in your life, and up untill two days ago, you didn't even know she existed. "I'm your great aunt Marcie," she says as she holds you at arms length, looking you up and down. "But you can just call me Auntie." You introduce yourself, but it's clear she already knows who you are. "Come on," she says," let's get you back to my house and fed." *** As you roll down fog-enshrouded Mainstreet in Auntie Marcie's car, she explains a bit about the town. When it was founded, how the entire economy is based on fish, why some buildings seem to be abandoned ("a bad case of the Lyctid bugs"), and how the weather is always foggy, but them simple folk prefer it that way. You also note that this aunt of yours has the usual Newfoundland/Irish drawl. But Mainstreet ends too quickly, and she turns off onto another road leading uphill. There's very few buildings here except for a house every so often. Finaly, she pulls into a gravel driveway and parks beside a brightly painted, three story house. "This is it. It's not much, but it's my home. It'll just be me and you living here." She helps you take your bags out of the trunk, and then she leads you inside and up a flight of stairs to a bedroom. "Sorry about the furniture, I used to run a daycare here. You'll have to make do though, because I don't have anything else." You set your stuff down and take a look around the room. There is an antique chest of drawers which seems nice enough, but the bed is in the shape of a racecar! It's a toddlers bed, complete with raised sides so the occupant doesn't roll out while sleeping. You're just about to say you can't sleep here when she continues on: "Now, this next thing I'm going to ask you may seem a private, but I need you to tell me the truth. Do you have any 'control' issues?" You ask her what she means by that. "What I mean is... do you wet the bed? Do you have accidents during the day at all? I know this all may sound silly to you, but I really need to know the details. Please, don't be afraid to tell me. I'm here for you. Go on, tell me." Options: 1. "That's ridiculous! I'm a teenager! Of course I don't wet the bed! That's sick!" 2. "... I do wet the bed." 3. "I sometimes have accidents during the day - but it's been a long time since my last one! I'm with hypno on this one. You've put your potential embarrassment into the hands of those of the internet! Woe be and despair, for the children of the internet are implacable and spring on chances like this! >D
*finally had a chance to be silly and overdramatic* #3. |

Heh, you guys can't trip me up on my own story.
So far it's a tie between #1 and #3 This was one of the ideas I had for another text game, but I scrapped it. I currently have some work done on a different text game, but it's kind of crappy so I may have to remake it completely. I also have several ideas for different text games in my head, and now it's just a matter of finding enough time. Look to summer of this year. |
