    Default Greetings

Hey there. I'm Madz, and while i've had an account for ages i've finally decided to actually use it.
I've been feeling kind of lonely and awkward without a community / friends who know about my interests, so maybe making a home here is going to be A++!

Hi and welcome! We all feel kinda awkward from time to time. What other things do you like to do besides this interesting "hobby" most have here? Are you a gamer? Oh, I see you like art. Modern or classic?

I'm a film student at university, so I spend a lot of my time doing reading, writing essays, and critically analysing old movies. I absolutely love it. My username is a reference to Georges Melies, a turn of the century french filmmaker / magician who made the iconic 1902 feature 'Le Voyage dans la Lune' [Trip to the Moon], arguably the first science fiction film ever made.
I love art of all kinds, from literature through film, via the old masters and the current crop of artists. Right now i'm super interested in German Expressionism and Russian Constructivism. Both are modernist genres, but they express attitudes to modernity in massively differing ways, with GE being dystopian in nature, and RC being utopian. Contrasting movements that occurred in the same time period is super interesting and can be very indicative of the ways in which society differed geographically during a specific era.
    Yourself?

    Well hello there and welcome!

Have a look around. There are some specialist groups that you could be interested in, including one for movie buffs.

    Look forward to your contributions.

As soon as I read your poet, I immediately remembered this film (especially the part where the projectile hits the moon in the eye). This wasn't too remarkable except that I did not remember the name of the movie and certainly didn't remember the filmmakers name.

    Good luck with your studies.

Welcome (back) to ADISC, it's great to have you!

I also went to film school for a while, and found Expressionism and Constructivism fascinating. Would love to chat films with you some time

Awesome, I was going to ask if your name was referring to Georges Melies and then I read further and you'd already explained.
