Thread: Cloth Diapers!

    Default Cloth Diapers!

So I've been thinking about it lately and I think I want to try a cloth diaper. It's funny because whenever I used to look at those diaper porn websites I would always skip the cloth diaper photo sets since disposables were pretty much my thing. But lately I've been feeling like I kind of really want to see what it's all about. But here's the problem. I know nothing about cloth diapers.

Really all I know is that I want a cloth diaper I need to use diaper pins in…not one of those AIOs (I think) that have the velcro. I don't know why but those just don't appeal to me..baby steps. And I don't know if they come in colors but I just want this to be plain and white. So can anyone advise me about where to look for something like this?

I'm also going to need plastic panties, right? Any help there?

Any and all advice is greatly appreciated. If you have something to add, please do. I want to learn all there is to know about this so I can make an informed decision about getting a good cloth diaper, so I stand a chance of liking wearing it!

    Thanks!

I have to admit that I haven't tried cloth diapers yet but want to also. Here's a couple of links that I found that may help.

Hey there, MaxiPad. Check out this article for starters -- lots of great info: All About Cloth Diapers

Of all the pin-on sorts, prefolds seem to be the most popular among cloth wearers here. There are folks who prefer the flat kind, though, and perhaps one of them will chime in with advice.

In any case, there are quite a few places that sell prefolds in adult sizes:

I've got diapers from the first six -- haven't tried LLMedico, Fetware, or Protex. Of the first six, my favorites are the cotton twill prefolds from Changing Times. Rearz sells pretty much the identical diaper. These are white diapers with blue serging on the ends. Baby Pants is a close second and very popular among cloth-wearing ADISCers, as is AdultClothDiaper.com.

Anyway... take a look, then ask more questions. I have yet to try a prefold that flat-out sucks, but the fabrics all have different textures and the diapers are cut a bit differently. As with disposables, experimentation is an important part of finding the diaper that feels and works best on you. That does come at a slightly higher cost with cloth, unfortunately.

I certainly can't improve on all the information given. A special thanks to Cottontail for the effort. Well done. I wear gauze pre-folds from All Together Enterprises and I have been very satisfied. I usually go to bed wearing the night time weight, gauze. I also have some lighter cotton twill which are good for day time wearing, as they aren't as thick.

You also will have to buy some plastic pants so your surroundings won't get wet. For wearing in bed, I like the Leakmaster high backs as they cover the diaper and more. During the day I often wear the PUL style plastic pants. They're easier to take care of, and can be washed in the machine. Plastic pants should never be put into a dryer.

Thanks for the answers guys. I am going to read over this and I might ask you some follow up questions directly. There's a lot of good information here though and I am going to look into it and digest all of it as best I can. Thanks for taking the time to answer.

I also have to say, after someone calling me by my username directly, I often wonder why I made my name a homage to how I got started at first, haha. Oh well.

IC folks have mayhaps a shedload of elements in what&why we wear:} AIO for 24/7 becomes a BLESSING if you're needing a bleary eyed Zombied change and not getting pincushion fingertips=PRICELESS. The comfort and concealment of any effective cloth able to handle even a single full bladder is not going to be an comparison with SAP disposables. Then again, comfort and concealment also are vastly different sentiments for many of us.

It's about which factors one of us wants for our comforts&needs as it works for US.

Giggly memories from the handful of ladies I've talked directly with about my IC and their exasperated yet sometimes tenderly affectionate relationships with their protections. And the shared eye rolls and semi-nods on what things were SO effective that their bulk etc made a sort of comfort. Knowing that yeah- it feels like it does but it's least liable to leak. I suspect it's why there will continue to be market for thick items in both cloth and disposable for all protection uses. Many of us with no accessible "diaper" memory might have had encounters with ladypads too. And more than a few women are moving back to monthly or even daily cloth as many women develop IC or have constant leaks that reportedly are be hugely nasty in volume/leak power.
