    Default Hi!

Hi! I'm not sure what the difference is between "Who am I?" and "What are my other interests?" so I'll just put them both in this section. Here's a bunch of random things in no particular order: I'm a runner, a biker, a hiker, a west coast swing and contra dancer, and a scuba diver. I'm a tree-hugging sushi-loving liberal socialist and proud of it. I consider myself very spiritual but not really religious. I'm an ovolactopescetarian that would likely eat non-domestic game if I ever had the opportunity. I can't believe I'm going to my 10 year anniversary of graduating from college this September. Kinda funny that people are often shocked to hear that I'm any more than a couple years out of college, let alone 10. I love progressive trance, folk, ska, and southern rock. I work in IT because I'm really good at it, it pays well, and I love helping people, but it seems like I'm still trying to find my "calling." I listen to audiobooks on the commute to and from work. Some of my favorites have been Watership Down, Contact, Enders' Game, Xenocide, Children of the Mind, Neverwhere, Good Omens, Coraline, The Graveyard Book, Anansi Boys, and A Walk In The Woods. I take care of a section of the Long Trail, and one of it's side trails and lodges. I love backpacking, camping, and just getting out into nature. I'm a big fan of *some* anime - particularly Miyazaki like Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, Kiki's Delivery Service, Castle in the Sky... Over the past 7 years or so I've watched every Naruto and Naruto Shippuden from the beginning (that's something like 600 20-minute episodes). My two favorite TV shows of all time are Firefly and Northern Exposure. I love family movies - The Muppets, the animated Robin Hood, The Emperor's New Groove, Ice Age, Fly Away Home, The Princess Bride, Bolt, Charlotte's Web (the 1972 animated version), How To Train Your Dragon, Shrek, The Incredibles, Monsters' Inc., The Secret of NIMH, The Secret of Kells. For adult movies my favorites are Shawshank Redemption, Contact, Inception, The Game, Dead Poets Society, A Walk To Remember, Back To The Future. I'm also a big fan of documentaries - music, psychology, spirituality, biography, history, anthropology, astronomy, nature. Breaking Bad, Dexter and The Newsroom are the series I keep up on nowadays, along with John Stewart. That said, I don't watch much more than 2 or 3 hours of TV and movies in average every week.

What brings me here? I've been in to diapers for as long as I can remember. My first memory of them was finding some in a closet at my aunt's place when I was like 5 or 6 years old and stashing one of them in my suit case. Way back in the early 90s I used a 286 equipped with a 14.4k baud modem to get to usenet groups and found, so I knew I wasn't alone from a very early age. Not sure how long this site has been around but I just found it a few days ago, and I thought that an active community could definitely be good for me.

What am I looking for out of this site? What would I love to do here? It'd be cool to find some likeminded people to become friends with. I'm not in need of any support (I suppose that's not entirely true - I did feel a little embarrassment when I said previously that I was in to diapers), but I consider myself very open and accepting - two things that I strongly believe are that everything that happens, 1) happens for a reason and 2) is _intended_ to be a positive learning experience - and because of this, I feel I'm very good at providing support. I suppose I'd be lying if I didn't mention that finding someone special to date through this community would also be pretty darned awesome.

So I guess that's about it! I look forward to seeing what comes of this.

Hello vttrailrunner and welcome to the group.

This was a very nice introduction. I to like audiobooks and did the exact same thing. My nightly commute could take 45 minutes if all the signals lined up, or 3 hours. I listen to a wide variety also, and I love to listen to 'Old time radio" when ever I have to do a lot of driving.

    Again welcome to the group.

Hey there vttrailrunner! I enjoy hiking, camping, running and scuba diving too. Anyway, I really like your state, but it's probably too cold up there in the winter for me. That's a good outlook on life you have. Welcome to ADISC.

    Hi, vttrailrunner,

May I assume that the vt is Vermont? I grew up in NH myself. New England is beautiful country, maybe the prettiest in the US. I don't live there any longer and I miss it.

I enjoyed your intro: very informative and very enjoyable. I too listen to audiobooks on my commute. I didn't for years b/c my commute is not long (20 minutes) but then I discovered that even a short commute gets a book finished in a few weeks, so it's pretty cool, and now I am completely addicted. A year ago I went to a library used book sale on bag day and filled three bags ($5 each) with CD audiobooks--didn't matter what they were--and stacked them on bookshelves in my garage. Now I have a crazy selection of random titles to listen to. Great fun! Your titles, BTW? Super! And "Firefly" and "Northern Exposure" are indeed two of the best shows ever made (though I'd rank "Buffy" above them).

Welcome here: I hope you find all sorts of great folks to talk to. I'll bet you will.

Thanks for the reply, Egor! If you like old-time music, you should check out Elixir. A youtube search for "elixir contra" will bring up a bunch of relevant videos. They have a wonderful modern touch to an old-time feel.

Hi ICkaraokegirl! You're right, VT is Vermont. I'm a big fan of Vermont. If I ever leave, there needs to be a very good reason! Yeah, my commute is a little less than 20 minutes, but as I tend to be pretty busy, it ends up being the only time I really have to "read". I love library used book sales. I've found some real gems at them. Interesting that you rank Buffy above NX and Firefly. I've watched a good number of the shows (mostly for Alyson Hannigan), but not enough to get a good grasp of the overarching storyline. At some point I should probably go back and re-watch them. Take care!
