Thread: Should prostitution be legal?

    Default Should prostitution be legal?

I was just wondering if you guys think that prostitution should be legal? I'm, personally, for it being legalized and regulated somehow. We all know it's not because of "health" reasons, because you can legally go around and have sex with as many people that you want as much as you want, you just can't get paid for it. Which leads me to believe that it's strictly because of money that it's illegal, since the government isn't making any money from taxes or anything. But then, on the same note, wouldn't doing odd jobs or baby sitting be illegal?

I personally wouldn't mind it being legal. Although from a practical standpoint, I would not really require the services of a prostitute what with all the free porn on the internet. It's like how online streaming killed cd sales.

Yes, if regulated prostitution should be legal... But regulations would need to be extensive, and can be very hard (and expensive) to do, which would drive the price of "legal" prostitution up. Making the illegal prostitution more likely to be used instead.

Really, it should be legal, whether regulated or not. It's just another way for people to not have control of their own body. If somebody needs some money, who cares if they have sex for it? How is it any different than cutting down a tree for somebody in exchange for cash?

You'd be surprised how similar it is to "cutting down a tree" if you think about it...

The reason regulations are good is purely to keep everyone involved safe.

When money gets involved a lot of shady things can happen, while they can happen with no money involved things such as murder, assault, rape I feel would be less frequent if no money (or boundaries by regulations) were involved in the situations.

To keep everyone involved safe from harm, by disease, or assault regulating prostitution would be a necessity.

Well, over here it is legal.
Im not a huge fan, and I think there are better ways to spend money, but if you really want,
you should definitely be allowed to buy (or offer) sexual satisfaction.

    Yep.

For sure. Who is to say what is wrong for two people to do consensually?

The whole issue is that it is not consensual in most cases. Individuals are under the control of a pimp or worse are sex slaves being manipulated. The whole point of making prostitution illegal was to have a way to crack down on forced prostitution.
