Thread: Something I've never noticed before....

Default Something I've never noticed before....

I don't know if it is the same for all the Tena range, or just Comfort..

I never noticed before that the yellow thin line on the reverse of the pads changes colour when the pad is wet!

There's one line at the front and one at the back.

It changes to a blue/green turquoise colour!

Anyone else noticed, or am I decades behind you lot? :P

    Yes.

I'm pretty sure all of the Tena products with tapes have those indicators of wetness. At least all of the ones I use (Super, Maxi and Flex) have them.

I just find it strange that it changes to blue, it makes more sense to me to change to yellow. But that might be my twisted way of thinking.

The yellow wetness indicators on the Attends Breatheable's also turn a blue/green color from the pee.

I think it is the same for most brands. It just seems more logical the other way around, but I guess this looks and works better since it's easier to notice it.

I think they use something similar to the litmus paper you used in chemistry class. It turns blue when in the presence of an acid. And urine is acidic. (uric acid)

Yep - most IC products do this so that a caregiver can see easily if a change is needed without looking or sticking their hand down the front of a wet diaper - - and yes it is a uric acid reaction :-)

No, I don't think it is an indicator: the normal range for urine runs from 4.6 - 8.0. I think it's more likely that the "reaction" is based of dissolution in water.
