Thread: Just got robbed in Vegas.

Default Just got robbed in Vegas.

The reason I got robbed is because I am so incredibly naive and tend to trust anyone because I've never ever had a problem with that, let alone I've never been robbed because of it. So I was walking around Vegas trying to do some clubbing (I have almost no friends so I go on my own). So I met this guy at the casino that told me he knew a good Party-bus and he stated he didn't knew anyone in Vegas either.

So I trusted this jerk and "payed" for my ticket, then he went to his hotel to retrieve money and change his clothes, we were supposed to meet at this other hotel at X time, so time passed and I waited and after a long wait, I had to ask one of the tourists guides about the ticked and the told me it was a FAKE.

A DAMN FAKE. I almost wanted to kill myself just knowing it was a hoax. If you are wondering why did I stupidly accepted the offer, my excuse seems fair enough: It's my first time in Vegas, I don't think it will be the last one but I won't come back until I can make some friends and eventually convince them to go to Vegas together. Otherwise, crappy experiences like this will keep happening.

I think a valuable lesson in life is never pay in advance unless you have a relatively good reason to trust the person you are purchasing goods/services from (maybe a good word from a friend, online review, check with the Better Business Bureau, etc.).

You should also steer clear of Reno. There was many a shifty person wandering those streets.

Vegas can be fine but I would stick to established and reputable ticket retailers. It only takes a little care to make sure you are safe.

    hi
i know how this feels coz i was mugged in broad daylight and on a busy street too. well what actually happened was this : i was in london for the day. one minute i was walking down the higstreet with my ipod in my pocket. then we went to a little cafe to get some lunch. so after eating lunch i thought to myself id listen to my ipod for a bit. but when i went to get it out of my pocket. it was gone. i come to the conclusion that someone behind me must have pinched it out of my pocket. i mean im not stupid or anything but can someone do that ? surly it must be wrong and immoral ? so how so many get away with it ?

Lots.. as far as Vegas goes, I hate that town, if I go on a gambling binge, I usually head to Mesquite. all the bright flashy lights in Vegas make my head spin, eyes roll back in head, and seizures begin, and i'm not epileptic.

I was once mugged by three bastards right in front of my apartment in a good neighborhood in the town I used to live. The town had been a really nice town until it became a dumping ground for parolees from a state prison 15 miles away. Don't feel naive for being a victim. Do not blame yourself. Blame the thugs.

I've been to large crowd places and events before. I use a fanny pack and put it on backwards (infront of me instead of over my lower back) plus I put it under my shirt and always keep my shirt tucked in. It's a fool proof way to ensure you never get pick pocketed when walking through a place where there's lots of people. Also, I always look around AT people when I get near and when I go into a place. The more alert you appear to be, the less likely you'll end up as a target.

As for getting mugged, I've never had that problem, and hope I never do. But having worked many years in private security I have some self defense ability to fall back on. For example, one weapon most guys always have on them.....a belt. Pull it off and let the buckle be the end that makes contact. You'd be surprised how many items you cary that could be used as a possible weapon. A bit of forethought and maybe some training and you could be safer.

Yes I can see a situation where you want to take off your belt and it doesn't seem to work out that well...

"Now sir (or little punk ass bitch), before you go punch me because i'm not giving you my wallet or cell phone. Please give me the time to take off my belt so I can whack you with it. Thank you."

Well, it may sound funny. And I can certainly appreciate the humor in how it sounds, but I would assume the person wouldn't just stand there, but would be doing something to get those few seconds needed to pull a belt.

In any case, like I said, you'd be surprised what other objects the average person carries on them that could be used for self defense.

Go for keys over anything else, easy to get to and can add some damage to a punch of be used to gouge eyes if necessary. Often recommended if a woman (or anyone) feels unsafe but has nothing else to use.
