Thread: How do you "be" a furry?

Default How do you "be" a furry?

So back in High School, I dated a Furry. It was the first time I ever got introduced to it. He was an artist, and so he drew a lot of furry art sometimes. He showed me some websites, yiffstar I rememebr particularly, though it seems to be gone.

Anyways, ever since then, I've been interested in furry....ness? But I have no idea how to express it or participate in it other than furry porn, and that's really only helpful in one situation.

I'm not artistic at all. So if I can't draw art, and don't own a fursuit, and don't really have anyone right now to share the experience with.... how do I be a furry?

    I'm very confused

You can always just browse non-yiffy art or stories, or you can try your hand at writing. Maybe you could search for your local fur group, it's only a quick google search away.

You don't actually need to contribute anything to be a furry. ^_^ All you really need to do is make a character. You don't need to draw that character. You don't need to write about that character. There can even be some characteristics of your character which you yourself are unsure of.

If you are looking for something furry related to do, go socialise on websites such as the art site "FurAffinity" or search "The furry forum" on google.

If you're willing to pay money, an artist or even a writer can do a commission for you. Drawing or writing what you want them to.

    Hope this helps! ^^ Glglglgl

    Yiffstar is now called SoFurry.
I love to fursuit and to let my inner self out at home and at furcons. *Open the cage, let free the animals* etc.

First, you must tune your mind such that you can listen to the eldritch songs sung by the Noble Circle of Furry Horrorterrors which dwell in the Furthest Ring of the internet. Their songs contain directions leading to their innermost sanctum. Journey there, and you will meet Gl'Gboryb, one of the Horrorterrors' speaking mouths. You must convince him to donate a pint of his blood to you, then head specifically to Lake Pontchartrain and dissolve the blood in the lake. Wait four to six hours for the blood to completely spread through the lake, and swim to the center, where a whirlpool should have formed. Stand in its very center, and recite "Ia! Ia! Yiff'yiff ftagn!" at least `7.9 times. Only then will you discover the true meaning of Furry.

    Godspeed.

I've actually been kind of wondering about this myself. I reckon I'm *makes up a word* fur-curious, but I never can really quite figure out what constitutes being a furry, or what. It's very confusing. >_<

Some of these post have cleared things up a bit, thanks guys. =D

...which is preferable to 'fur-ious' I suppose.

Not to get all ethereal on you, but it really is a state of mind. Like with any lifestyle, there are a million accessories, but what truly matters is the core of emotions which drive your desire. If you feel like a furry, I would say in all fairness that you can call yourself a furry. ^^

I have had a few sketches commissioned and I own a fox sleeper, but I've never attended a convention, which is sort of a right of passage. Some furries have no real material vestiges of their furriness. Some live the life 24/7.

As for concrete differences I've seen between the AB world and the littlefur/babyfur world, about the most universal ones are A) a slightly different vocabulary (e.g. 'noms' for 'food', 'huggles' for 'hugs', etc.) and B) there is a lot more cuddling and closeness associated with role-play.

I would like to add as an aside that the mindset of adult furs often differs greatly from those of LF/BF. At least from my observations, the adult side of the furry world often has a very strong 'adult' angle to it, if you catch my drift. Nothing wrong with that, but it makes it strongly at odds with the very innocent theme of young furs. Sadly, the two groups often quarrel (no joke) and there is somewhat of a distrust between them. Take that for what you will.

If you have any further questions, feel free to ask away and I will try to be of assistance! ^^ Also, my fellow furs, if I made any misjudgements above, please call me out on it!

The way I see it... Just be yourself, if it involves something with cute furry animals, then yes, probably you are a furry. For myself, I don't really wear fursuits, but I enjoy having lots of plushie creatures around that are real to me. If it were up to me, I'd be a fennec. Life doesn't seem to work that way, so I just pretend instead .
