Default "Senator questions benefits to 'adult babies'."

I had typed 'adult baby' into Google this night and i got a link to the Washington Post which had an article titled "Senator questions benefits to 'adult babies'.". It got my attention so i clicked and to my amazement it was about our adult baby "representative" featured on Nat Geo's Taboo show. Basically in a nut shell the article said that he (the adult baby) was receiving social security. Specifically SSI, for his mental issues from abuse as a child. (as he claims in the article) In the show he shows absolutely no signs of having any disabilities whatsoever. Also on his support group site in his blog he states that he has also had a job as a security guard for a year and a half but quit due to trauma caused through abuse caused in his childhood. So now the Social Security Company wants to stop sending him checks after 10 years of him receiving them and he is threatening to kill himself. Also his roommate \ mommy had also work for many years as a nurse but now also lives off his Social Security checks. . . So basically the article is raising questions and getting unwanted attention to the a* community. . . there is more to the article than that and i recommend you read it. Any way what we all kinda feared about this guy "representing" us is happening. Whats your opinion on the article\situation? What do you think could occur because of this? What kind of questions could arise towards the community?

here is the link to the article. . .

There was a very long thread about this in the past. I was unable to find the link to it using search though. Stanley Thornton was ultimately investigated by the government and determined to be in need of government assistance.

The story makes all AB/DLs look like our entire lives revolve around being treated like a baby and that we do absolutely nothing else. Furthermore, it makes us look like societal leeches who use taxpayer money to fund our fetishistic activities.

My personal opinion is that Social Security should not exist, and that no money should be redistributed to people, even if they have disabilities like Thornton has. It cannot be morally justified to forcibly seize money from a successful, productive individual and redistribute it to another individual, even if that individual is disabled. Such individuals must rely on voluntary charity, not on government force and compulsion.

I completely agree. I hate that money out of my paycheck. . . that i worked hard for goes to people who are labeled as "disableed". I dont mind the idea if they all were actually dissabled but sadly they aren't. It is so easy to get social security these days. Appearently you can be a "slow learner" and receive social security which is pure bull crap. Its called pick up a freaking book and educate yourself! I just cant believe it sometimes. It just really makes me mad that the system is so easily screwed and exploited. Its honestly one of the things that is holding back the US. Americans can simply claim a bull crap dissability and not work and recieve money from the government from people who actually work. So less are going to school, getting higher educations, better jobs, and supporting themselves. One of the reasons the economy is bad along with the countries (as a whole) education status and employment rate. One of many government programs that needs to be shut down or heavily restricted.

It's not just holding the United States back. This is an epidemic that the entire world is infected with. I recall reading an article where a man in Sweden claimed that he had an irrational addiction to heavy metal music and that he couldn't work because of it, so now he has full benefits. And I'm sure that's not just a one-time incident over there. I disagree with you on the disability thing though. I don't think anyone, whether they're actually disabled or pseudo-disabled, is entitled to a portion of the fruits of my labor. I would happily give to charity, but I don't, since the government and today's prevailing morality claim that such people have a right or an entitlement to my money.

omg... it's that discussion again. We've been over this.
Anyway I don't feel represented by 'that guy' (who was/is a member here, apparently) just like fat white businessmen aren't representative of me just because I love to play golf.
Btw.. I bet that bit about the metal-Swede was on Fox News?

Such a view is indefensibly uninformed - history has shown unregulated capitalism to be just as unstable as pure communism. Neither economic system works.

Furthermore, even from a purely ideological standpoint, individuals owe an inherent debt to the society which allows them to prosper. In that respect, there is no "forcible seizing" of money so much as obligatory payment to the system which has allowed them to gain that money in the first place.

Yes, this is "socialism." "Socialism" is a basic tenant of every stable, functional society throughout history. It is not some communist evil as the radical right wing would have you believe.
