Thread: Why dont they make em like they used to?

Default Why dont they make em like they used to?

I cant honestly believe diaper companies like huggies and pampers making their diapers so cheap and thin nowadays they now even use it as their sales pitch saying 20% thiner . how is that even a sales pitch? why would you want thin diapers on your child? actual children are like volcanos down their and your gunna trust 20% thinner to hold? lol have fun cleaning up...you know whats funny is bounty the quicker picker upper paper towels has a sales pitch "thicker then the other bargain brands which means more clean with one sheet of bounty" so if your gunna buy thick paper towels for little juice spills, why in the hell would you buy thin diapers for your babys very large explosive messes

Back when I was younger they had plastic backed diapers that were thick and never leaked according to my mother. Not only that but goodnites back in the 90s early 2000s didnt paint on that stupid underwear fly

Heres what I dont get about that painted underwear fly though...if real children are having bedwetting issues and need to wear goodnites and feel "embarassed" about wearing a "diaper" and dont want their friends to see then have them wear something over it...but painting it to look like underwear isnt gunna fool their friends during sleepovers into thinking its underwear.

...thats another thing I dont get why would you want to be exposing your childs undergarment regardless of wether its diapers or underwear to his or her friends in the first place?...in all those comercials they are having a slumber party and say finally protection made for kids to feel like other kids and point out how they look like underwear making it seem like they were wearing just goodnites and a t-shirt for the sleepover

gah it frustrates me im sure diaper companies stopped making quality diapers for cost reduction and to make more profits but thats capitalism for you. not saying all diapers are bad but nothing compares to those vintages if you have any diapers that are vintage save em hehe

now I am sure I know what your thinking "if you want better quality diapers just buy some bambinos" problem is im a very small person and bambino doesnt make smalls anymore neither does ABU. so im stuck in a very awkward middle position of being able to fit into thin awful baby diapers...or not being able to fit into quality thick diapers unless using duct tape. *sighs* always goodnites I guess but they are getting thiner less crinkly and more like padded underwear each update.

Well, yeah, the purpose of a company is to maximize profits, and if a company feels that they can do that without significantly lowering the quality of their products, then they'll do it. I'm not a parenting expert or anything, but I haven't heard many parents complain about the quality of Huggies and Pampers diapers. In fact, most complain about the high price. In using less material to make the diapers (20% thicker), Huggies and Pampers can lower their prices.

Also, I know this has very little to do with the topic, but please don't fallaciously say "that's capitalism for you." It drives me mad when people confuse capitalism with our current system of corporatism. Corporations today can afford to lower quality and raise prices in order to maximize their profits, because the government subsidizes many of them and restricts the ability of entrepreneurs to start businesses and compete with these corporations by imposing regulations. In a true capitalist society, if a company like Pampers or Huggies was lowering the quality of their diapers, another diaper company would step in to take advantage of this by producing high-quality diapers and subsequently gaining many ex-Pampers/Huggies customers. I know this thread isn't about capitalism or corporatism, but it bothers me how misused the term capitalism is in today's society.

I hear ya there, Toddy. Quality in products (and not just in diapers) is nothing like it used to be. Every company is looking to cut costs and most of the time that means quality gets cut.

I also feel your pain about diaper sizing. I, too, am in that in-between phase. Too big for baby diapers, not big enough for adult diapers. And with bambinos and ABU not offering size small, it makes it difficult to find a good diaper.

However I have found 3 that work great that you might also like: Abena Abri-Form XPlus S4, Molicare Super Plus, and Tranquility ATN (All-Through-the-Night). The first two are my absolute favorites and can be obtained through XPMedical. The Tranquility ATN is sold through ABU. Give'em a try (from a sample pack) and lemme know what you think!

Well as for goodnites look at what they are actually made for rather than as fun as they are for people like us they are used to actual people who are bed-wetting and the modern ones always seemed to work fine for me when I had real bed-wetting issues anyway :p. But honestly a lot of the reason they are making those " more like underwear " is psychological reasons most people dont enjoy wearing diapers and if i felt like that i would want them to feel as close to normal underwear as possible
As for modern baby diapers I haven't really seen any issues with them and i babysit my triplet cousins quite a bit :P so i have had to help change a few the work quite well and you really should leave them wet for long anyway =/. Plus they are easy for the babies to move around and play in which i think is important for a developing child.

In short Adult babies have a very stylised idea of what being a baby is which is very inconsistent with reality but its great fun. At the same time don't confuse the two of them

yeah its unfair though our choices are really limited because of our size I have not tried those brands but thanks for the tips I will take a peek at those brands

im small enough to fit into baby diapers but still its not very much protection but im not big enough to fit into the ones that everyone is wearing I have sent some suggestions to both to bring back size small they used to sell size small and extra large they dont anymore

just so you know, parent want the diaper to be thinner for children comfort, and even if the diaper get thinner they are still more absorbent. Sorry , but it seem that what you want or what you wish is not compatible with the reality. Diapers company will continue to make thinner and more discrete diaper, no matter what the ABDL community want.

Cato... Even though it was a little off-topic, that was a very astute post on capitalism vs corporatism as you called it. It's not quite a monopoly with is one company taking over, but it's what's called an oligopoly, which is a very small group of companies controlling everything. Which ends up doing about the same thing as a monopoly, and as you said it stifles competition. There so many examples of this in America today it almost makes me sick thinking about it. Oh... and you are absolutely right about the government subsidies and regs too!

Well its a good thing we are discussing diaper Quality not american politics :P Other wise this could be very off topic. With out being rude it was kind of a waste of a post I mean I love discussing Philosophy and politics and such things but it seem like you just used this as another chance to rant ? rather than add anything useful to the thread but then im not a mod so shoot me down if i has posted wrong.

    ON TOPIC
I really don't see any of the big brands and making any diapers that aren't that absorbent I mean i have used toddler diapers as stuffers before and for their size they are amazingly absorbent
