Thread: Good Romance Novels?

    Default Good Romance Novels?

    This is horribly embarrassing for me, you guys. You don't even know... (I'm dorking out about the new Young Justice episode and yet I'm doing this. What the frosted butts is wrong with me?)

    So I feel inclined to read romance novels for inspiration, but I can't seem to find any that aren't purple proses of Fabio taking the plain Jane away to a bed full of rose petals in Hawaii and living happily ever after. Seriously. So I'm humbly asking for romance novel recommendations. Preferably older novels, but newer, good novels are fine too. As long as they don't suck and aren't every other romance story, I'm fine.

    Dark romance is also acceptable as long as it doesn't involve vampires. They're becoming more and more like fairies and they're so popular now that my inner hipster can't handle it. (And I just watched Hellsing so I can't think of vampires without thinking of.... well... things that make me feel stupid.)

    (Mods, I don't know if this should be in the Mature Topics section because romance novels can get racy and naughtier than cousin Fred, but they make me laugh and I'm not really looking for naughty material so I put it in the Off Topic section. But you can move it if you want. I don't mind a bit. )

    Oh, and NO DRAMA! If you're a Twilight/Vampire Romance fan, I don't care. Make another thread about it.

    Well, it depends on whether you want your romance novels to be full of romance, or full of sex, or full of both.

    Memoirs of a Woman of Pleasure from 1749 by John Cleland is always a great bet if you want a hornball novel. Lesbian action, digital action, oral action, anal action, bondage action, whipping action, period-blood action, random-sexual-encounters-with-sailors-who-make-butt-jokes action, gangbang action, plenty of masturbation, so on and so forth. If you can get through the heavy 18th century English, I'm sure you won't be disappointed. Oh, and there's something of a love story in it too.

    Other than that, well, you might be on your own.

    Laura K. Hamilton stuff fits into this category, I think.

    You girly girl, you.

    PS: If the woman is on top, that makes it 10x better.

    Ah, I've been meaning to read Fanny Hill for a while now, but I lost my list of 'shit I have to read' a while ago. Will do, because I love Ye Olde Porn. (But I'll be imagining all that rule 34 of King of the Hill I saw one time. Snap.)

    I have to admit that I'm kind of interested in the Merry Gentry series now.

    But I'll take my urban fairies headless, thank you.

    I knew I was turning into a housewife when I started watching Grey's Anatomy. This proves it.

    Well... about to finish 'Venus in Furs'... the most romantic I've read so far, and can't wait to finish it. However, it a book not for everyone. <_<;

    Beside that, I don't know of any other romances.

    Hmm, old romance novel...how's about Sense & Sensibility? It's ever so proper, and I found it a very good read besides. Might not be enough bodice ripping, though.
