Introducing Google Chrome Frame

Google has released a IE plugin, that replaces the Trident rendering engine with Chrome's Webkit for pages that add a certain meta tag. Their reason is they want everyone to be able to use Google Wave on it's release.

From a technical point of view, this is great in that it allows IE6/7 users who won't update to use modern apps, and adds HTML5 features to IE8, but it suffers two problems:

  1. I can't imagine Microsoft being too pleased.
  2. If you can't encourage a user to upgrade IE for their own safety/web experience, how are you going to get them to install a plugin? (which they may not even understand what it is).
