    Default Some thoughts on America

Uh, wow. I wrote this post as thoughts came to my head, so it's like a train of thought. I don't know, maybe it would be better suited as a blog. Basically, it's just a few thoughts I've been having recently about america and the people there, and the frustration I feel about the whole situation. The reason I'm so concerned is that yes, most of the world does revolve around america, and what happens to america more or less affects the rest of the world.
It's really long, borring, and inaccurate. But enjoy, I guess...
    ******

I going to try to write this post without stepping on any toes. I'm not liberal or conservative. I'm a political moderate, maybe leaning to the left on social issues. But I always try to step out of my comfortable little box in order to get a dislocated perspective on things. Because when we don't do that, we get idiots shouting "You lie!" at the president during congressional meetings. But anyway...

So I saw this.(scroll down for video). Intense. A huge crowd of people chanting "YOU LIE! YOU LIE! YOU LIE!" over and over again. People holding up signs equating Obama to Hitler or stalin. People holding up signs calling Obama a fascist. people holding up signs that say "We Love Glen Beck". FoxNews producers rallying up crowds. People claiming Obama is more dangerous than Al Qaeda "because we can attack Al Qaeda but we can't kill Obama". People claiming Obama wants to kill your grandparents.

You just look out at this massive crowd; everyone carrying an American flag. Everyone carrying protest signs. Everyone is there to protest Obama taking away their freedom. Everyone there saying if you don't like their way, then you aren't a real American. So many people. Throngs of people. All there for one purpose. All hate the Obama government, and probably Obama personally. Everyone there ready to fight for freedom.
    Everyone there misinformed.

This huge mass of people, call them conservatives, call them the white-christian-republicans. Whatever. They've all got this huge idea that they're the oppressed ones. That they're the ones that will have to fight off this bigger and badder enemy that threatens to overtake the whole country. Equating Obama to Hitler. For some reason. I never got that. Hitler was a great public speaker, and so is Obama. Hitler was born to a white mother, and so was Obama. I can't see any more similarities. If that's your basis for hating someone, than you must hate everyone.

As the video says, there are 46 million uninsured people in america. You NEED health care reform, whether from Obama's plan or someone else's. The worse thing you could do right now is stand in at townhall meetings and yell really loud in the hopes of drowning out the opposition. Those are playground tactics. Kindergarten kids solve their problems that way. Adults sit down and discuss their options and attempt to fix the problem.

On media, especialy American media. Turn the fucking television off every once and a while and educate yourself through your own means, instead of viewing it through the filter of a 24 hour news channel. I don't care if you watch Fox or Cnn or HLN or the CBC; they're ALL biased. Every single human being on this planet has some sort of bias, so therefore all news stations and newspapers and magazines are biased. Not to mention that what Branjolina is up to right now is NOT news, it's fark that the media attempts to pass off AS news in order to appeal more widely to audiences. At this rate, all news channels will be nothing but sources of celebrity gossip we watch at home while we sit in our electric fatass scooters while having corporate tv dinners fed directly into our throats through medical-grade tubes while some shady guy apart of the government goes "okay, they're distracted, fire the missiles now". (Oh wait, they already do that)
    Get out while you can.

I feel like I'm preaching to the choir here, but governmental health care works. It works in Europe. It works in Cuba. It works in Japan. It works in Canada. Canada isn't the best example, but we're open to improvements. There's more government-funded health care in America than you may think. The health care of the American military is 100% government-funded. Why doesn't every other American deserve that kind of treatment?
But that's all I'm going to say on that, because this post is about so much more than health care. It's about how so many people are being persuaded or brain-washed into following a few talking head's desires. "Go here, have a tea party. Go here, yell at your congressmen. Go here, call Obama a socialist. Call Obama a communist. Call Obama a fascist. Fight for your freedom. Fight for liberty. Fight against the big scary government that's basically nazi-controlled germany." And not a single one realizes it. Not a single one gets that they're being so adeptly controlled. It's sad and scary at the same time, because you can tell just from the videos and pictures that they ARE ready to fight. They've got loaded guns and guerrilla squads poised for fighting. They're just three steps away from loosing their shit.

Why? Because they've been lead to believe that all their freedoms are at risk. That now is the time to fight back. That in the constitution it encourages armed citizens JUST IN CASE the government fucks up and they need to take back control of the country by force, damnit!

America's not ready to have a black president. America never was ready to have a black president. This was evident from the start when a sizeable majority claimed he was a closet muslim. That he's a racist. That he wasn't even born in the states. That he wants to take away all freedoms. That he want to kill your grandmother. That he wants to take down the whole country from the inside because he's a secret muslim who was born in africa and hates white people and america's freedoms and ESPECIALY hates your grandmother.

And despite all evidence to the contrary, despite being born to a white mother, despite that he was actually elected president of the United States, these people believe it. Why? Because they were told so.

My predictions? Things will get violent soon, unless people change.
We look at history, and it almost seems natural. Every great empire ever has fallen. America's no different. Just so you know, I'm not anti-american in any way, this just needs to be discussed.

All because people keep blaming the other side. The left blame the right for all of the current ills of today, and the right blame the left for being un-american (see: Will We Have To Fight A Second Civil War? Passionate America).
When did we stop being people, and instead become labels like 'Lefties' and 'Righties? You see the other side as faceles entities who oppose the right way; your way. This is how it is in a war. You aren't shooting people, just ideologies and labels. We put words in their mouths and only hear what we want when they talk. It's the political equivalent of putting our hands over our ears and going "lalalalalalalala".

Furthermore, George Bush wasn't the worst thing to happen to the US, and Obama isn't the second coming of christ. Let me tell you about politicians; they're all the same. They want power and money, and most of the time don't give a crap about common people. They're all willing to pander to the majority to get to a higher office.

"If fascism ever comes to America, it will come wrapped in an American flag."

So what you're saying, is that it's no longer sufficient to go to our windows and shout "I'm mad as hell, and I'm not gonna take it anymore"?

Obama doesn't want anyone to die, though he won't care if they do simply since he doesn't know they exist and its in the human nature to only care about yourself and people you actually like. Yes that sounds selfish since it is. Gorge W Bush was the same way, he din't want anyone to die asides Osama and MAYBE Saddam and people of the like. We can make a list of all the people on Adisc in the US armed forces and send it to Obama and he wouldn't know any of them.

If any of you feel that's harsh then who would you save a close family member who you love or a total stranger you don't know? (its a rhetorical question BTW, don't answer.)

All the people that "hate" obama are doing so since they think its justified just like people like Cindy Sheehan thought the pure hatred of bush and friends was justified. Both sides have a lot of sheep, I'll admit that and I am pretty sure we all been sheep at one point too and still might be. With Bush people mainly hated the war, Bush and friends were the only one who took flak from these people, congress didn't even if they voted for it on a vast majority.

The defense for that is "well they were given false information." that may be true but it was the same exact information give to bush and friends.

You say we should turn off our minds to the media and say we should look into matters ourselves. Frankly that is a impossibility bills in the house are always a few hundred pages long it seems and most of it is bureaucratic dribble. Even our own congressmen and senators can never fully read a bill, what chance does the public have? The media is a necessary evil
just like voting for McCain or Obama was. Yes I am admitting I think they both sucked as candidates, mitt Romney did as well and he's who I supported.

Either way this is how it always goes and will keep going until America falls which at soe point it will. Even Rome or Alexander's empire never lasted countries rise and fall, that's how it goes.

Hmmm Lies were the foundation of the Iraq war... Lies about Obama during the election were held up to the scorn they deserved. And this time around lies are winning? The public option takes away freedoms? The American public was lied to before, and hasn't learned, they are being lied to again, and by the same reactionary bunch that is afraid to lose business, that is afraid for their bottom line more than the rights and freedoms of the average citizen.

Life and the pursuit of happiness... are enhanced, as I see it, by healthcare accessible to the poor, and anyone else whose livelihood is uncertain: which includes most people.

Sheehan wasn't driven by hate so much as she was driven by insane grief over losing a child. I can't speak for the rest of the Sheehanites since I never even met one.

The problem is, Bush and friends were the ones that conjured the information.

They don't HAVE to be, though. That's the problem. If, as a people, we demanded that the media have integrity and not just accept whatever newsertainment is fed to us, the media would respond by having competent journalists to do real investigation. If we as a people demanded it, they could be the vicious watchdog constantly biting at government and out-of-control industries. In Canada, we have the CBC (not as good as they used to be, but a hell of a lot better than Global), England has the BBC (pretty damn good), but the US doesn't have anything like that. CNN was never that good, and when Fox News came along, they started a race to the bottom. Watergate may have inspired a new generation of journalists, but where they went, I have no idea. It's all pundits and flashy graphics now.

My basic thoughts on all of this...

    (1) American freedoms really can't be taken away... If enough Americans were smart enough to inspect their own Constitution, they would see right there in bold print, "And if enough Americans sit down and agree that they don't like the Government, they can scrap it and start again."

But they don't seem to remember that bit, do they..

    (2) When everything falls to shit, can I go live with you, Chillhouse?

I agree with the intent of your rant, Chillhouse. Though I feel it's hard to generalize 'Americans' since the country is so large and culturally varied; New England and the South being well known examples. "Labels" is exactly right - imo, many of the divisions and disagreements are brought about by imaginary distinctions. The idea of "us" being right and "them" being wrong, and that there is only us vs. them and no-one else. It's easy to blame the other side for all problems rather than work on fixing it.

    A few thoughts:

Take everything you see on TV with a grain of salt. Regardless of network, the guy who owns the camera and the transmitter (or uplink, or whatever) picks the footage. Typically, they'll go for the more extreme examples of whatever point they're trying to make.

I'm sure there is some Obama-hate out there, but if you look at any of the polls, you find that the man is significantly more popular/approved than his policies. That tells me that racism is not the major issue, nor is his party affiliation.

I can't speak for all Americans, but my concerns with the health care issue are a) cost and b) individual freedom. I've had my fill of expanding government, both in my wallet, and my freedom to live the way I choose. I have minimal insurance, which would keep me from losing my house if I had a serious illness. On the rare case I need to see the quack for something, I pay cash. Typically they don't charge me near as much as they would if they had to go through the hassle of dealing with insurance. Obama's plan would force me to pay a lot more for the same level of service. I view this as extortion.

In Canada and Europe, you are paying a lot more for health care than you realize. In the U.S., government in one form or another accounts for about 39% of the GDP, while in Europe, the numbers run more like 45%. The difference is mostly health care. I'm not OK with the expense of doing it your way. We need to fix some things, but rushing into it will raise costs exponentially. Every regulation raises cost. A business or individual has to devote resources to understanding and complying with every new (and old) regulation. Resources = Time, money, natural resources, or capital equipment. Cost goes up, prices go up, availablility goes down, or both. Fact, not theory.

Flinging 1000 pages of poorly thought out rules, regulations and taxes into the mix is going to cost me, and every other American, BIG TIME. This is fact, not theory. Regulation = overhead.

That kind of drag on the economy makes everyone worse off. Why do you think European economic growth has lagged the last several decades?

As for the 'tax the rich' nonsense, you could strip the wealthiest of Americans of everything, divvy it up, and it wouldn't amount to squat. Class envy and punishing the rich may be emotionally satisfying to some, but it wouldn't make your life or mine any better.

    My thoughts on America:

    It's big.

    It has lots of people.

    FAT people.

    LOTS of fat people.

Oh. And awesome food. (Which is why you guys are so fat.) <3

Yes, I'm stereotyping for the sake of comedy, guess you'll want me to talk about the bucktoothed British and insult them too? Well I won't! Wait...Fuck.

Sheehan went out of her way to disrespect her own son anyways since it's been claimed he was happy serving in the military as I am sure most people are. It sucks that he died but his mother has used his death to her advantage from my point of view.

Got any proof to back up that that claim that bush and friends made it all up in the oval office there? Plus why would they want to go to war? Oil your going to say I bet... Well let's take a look at how much oil we export from not only Iraq but Afganistan.

Crude Oil and Total Petroleum Imports Top 15 Countries

we get more oil from Venezuela and Nigeria then we do from Iraq.. most of our oil comes from Canada and Mexico.

Nothing I can really say about your views on American media outlets, but I only saw those Acorn videos from fox news.. Of course it must be made clear the people who made the video are just kids my age and fox news was the only one who expressed interest in it. Most of what Orilley has is just ambush interviews, I never liked Greta and they ditched Bret Bair.
