I think this problem is't that new. There is indeed a big lack of good storyboards. If you think how many good movies (with at last something "new") you saw in the last years you can probably count that on one hand. The really worse think is, that this is not only the truth for movies but also for music.

In booth cases it's from my point of view not only a authoring problem but also a management problem. The big dream and music factories are not willing to risk anything anymore. They are looking more at there quarterly reports then on a susatinable development of authors and musicians. That why they do one remake of the other if something was successful in the nearer past.
