Hi all. Well as of now im officially diahnosed with ibs. Irrational bowel syndrome and I hate it! Its annoying and highly embarressing to go to work or hang in public places with out having to worry about having an accident. I want to see if I can wear diapers to prevent this problem because I got bad anxiety as well and I sometimes feel leaking coming down my legs acting like I'm wetting my self or something. I don't know what do at this point I've talked to my doctor and he confirmed I had it. And every morning I wake up I feel like I'm farting but it feels like I crapped my self. I'm afraid to go the diaper rout because of my ibs problems. I'm in a tight situation where I cant take it anymore. Should ai bring this up to my therapist? Because I would wear diapers for medical reasons if I have to to protect my self from having an accident in public. Like wetting my self from anxiety because I suffer from GAD/Generalized anxiety disorder too. Sorry guys just seeking advice from a ibs sufferer. I've heard that people who have ibs also wear diapers protect them selves at night from accidents as well. I want to bring this up to my therapist and parents but I don't want them thinking I'm a freak. And thinking about it is making me anxious. But I think wearing adult diapers or pull ups will help me feel more comfortable with my condition. What should I do my ibs is starting to interfere with my work and I have a disability and they specifically work with people with disabilitys its an adult day program. So idk what to do anymore sorry guys stomach is in pain and I feel like when I fart I'm literally shitting my self. :( I try to hold it in at work. Should I bring up the diaper thing to my doctor? Do you think it'll help with my issue? Thanks. :) Im also tired of clogging the toilet so no fun. XD Sorry thanks in advice! And if I have to what kind of diapers do you suggest getting that can hold in odar and keep the bed from getting wet, etc? I wear a size large. Thank you.

I have what is either a mild IBS or some undiagnosed food allergy. Not every day but I get periodic run ins where I'm lucky to make it to the toilet.
You don't need thick so much as one that has good coverage for your body type around that area. The standing guards will help reduce the blowout chances.
You'll need to try various ones, but I'd start with the Northshore Care supreme brand.

At least diapers will give you some security of the "last resort." You can certainly mention them to your doctor or not. Odor will be a problem, you still want to get cleaned up right away (the adult sized wipes make it easier. I like the SENI brand best these days, one of our local groceries carry it). Some cholorphyl pills (i use the "bodymint" brand off amazon) may help.

If you need something to protect yourself, your clothes and potentially the people around you then I think you should wear something. I think your therapist would agree and being 27 your parents should have no qualms about your predicament and should understand your medical condition.

If you haven't already, check with your doctor (or a gastro specialist) and see if there's a change in your diet that an help with at least some of your problems. (like toilet clogging)

You may not be able to put a cork in it, but you should at least be able to make episodes more manageable.

Hi there thought I might be able to chime in. I have pretty severe IBS (along with other issues I won’t bore you) and I use diapers to help control it. It’s not pleasant I can tell you, especially if it happens out in public. I usually get it worse in the morning and I would say I have to use the diaper 70-80% of the time. I am also bladder incontinent as well so I use a good diaper regardless. My best advice is is that when you have a episode just clean it up straight away as it stinks and is terrible for your skin. The worst thing is when you put on a fresh diaper thinking it’s over only to find out you have done it again.... ugh.

TL:DR yes use a diaper

Diapers won't work to help "prevent" the problem. They'll only work to mitigate the result, maybe giving you time to get cleaned up easier. I, too, have IBS, but have only had a few incidents, that were out of my control. I take Imodium a couple times a day now. I know it's probably not the best thing for me, but with G.E.R.D., taking twice daily proton pump inhibitors probably isn't doing me much good (other than stopping my heartburn...), in the long term. My uncle died of esophageal cancer from not stopping the acid (he used over the counter Tums, Rolaids, etc. for decades), so, at least I'm not necessarily going there. The Imodium works, though. Might not be for all, but it works for me. I still wear my diapers/pullups for fun, comfort, convenience, AND for those weird circumstances that are out of my control.

Thanks guys for being understanding! My therapist said she thinks wearing diapers/pullups would be really beneficial for me. She also has no issues with me wearing them. And my doctor said he has no problems at all because I got bad anxiety. GAD, etc it messes with my ibs. I work at a day program for adults with disabilities work so I get paid there. As I have a disability my self. I almost had an accident during event one day. My anxiety was through the roof and my ibs was acting up pretty bad. Ive been constipated and doctor told me that being constipated can make you pee. I felt pee running down ny leg so I had to run to the bathroom before it got worse. I had a bad day. :( My doctor said he doesnt think i need diapers but he thinks if it will help me feel at ease wear them because he thinks it might help calm my anxiety. What ever that means. Maybe itll help prevent accidents at work. Anyway I am doing good so far bought IBGard and gives me temporarly relief doc recommended it. And I sometimes have issues at night with poo trying to slip out when im trying to sleep so i might have to wear something to protect my self at night. I dont get ibs that bad but its the constipation that hurts. Causing me to pee. Anyway so far no diarrea thank god. Just mostly bad gas. I wont worry about it too much though. Mom thinks I dont need diapers/pullups. But i might get them anyway. Ill be moving out in 3 months soon. My parents aren't bad people they just dont inow what im going through. Geez I feel like a little kid having bed wetting problems. Lol. Anyway thanks guys. Do you know what kind of diapers I should get? I weight 136lbs and my normal underwear size is large. What brand of diapers/pullups should I get? And will any of them hold in odar smells? I'm always hold my farts in because they smell sometimes. Also do they have any diapers/pullups with designs on them as well? Thanks. :)

You have my sympathy. Bowel conditions can be so degrading and soul destroying. I suffered with Ulcerative Colitis for 21 years before finally admitting defeat and having my bowel removed.
For the last 10 years of my condition my suffering got worse and worse ending with a diagnosis of 'severe UC'

Whilst waiting for surgery i had to come off the steroids which i was addicted to. Stopping taking these tablets let my condition run wild leaving me at the mercy of a badly inflamed colon ready to evacuate its contents with little or no warning.

Even the thought of thinking about my situation would bring on the anxiety and the panic shortly followed by the stomach ache and then the mad panic to find a free toilet.

I decided to wear nappies all the time when out of the house for the first time as a 'need' rather than 'comfort'. Knowing that i was protected and could have a 'safe' accident as the worst thing made my anxiety much better. I could relax whilst out knowing that if the worst happened at least it would be contained.

I had quite a few accidents but no leaks. I was usually on the way home when it happened. I was also taking codine as a 'bunging up' measure, this worked well to a point but it did wear off mid afternoon meaning all of the days 'build up' would be expelled in one massive explosive movement wherever i was.

Uh I think you should definitely go diapered. No joke. It happened to me once. A real blow out!! I changed my whole diet.

I recomend you see your doctor and get him to refer you to a specialist to make sure its not a life threatening issue thats causing your IBS. also start wearing diapers like Betterdry as they have tall leg gathers and will help manage your bowel issue. I have been wearing 24/7 for over 3 years and recently have had unexpected bowel movments my Better dry diaper has handled the accidents well. Being properly protected takes a lot of the stress and worry away when an accident happens. a few of my bowel accidents have happened in public and I was able to get cleaned up and changed before the smell was to noticeable

Coming from experience I have ibs and have been formally diagnosed since I was 17. As a teen I never really had accidents but I had a few close calls. In college however is when I myself turned to diapers. I was stressed to the max. Bathrooms were few and far between. Often I had to let it go in the bushes as I really didn’t want a public accident. I switched to diapers and my use of them calmed me my ibs didn’t flare up as much. Of course since college other stressful events makes my ibs much worse. Last summer my grandpa died and I was having accidents in the diapers all the time. The clean up is awful but it beats having an accident. Just remember wipes and changes if you decide to do this

I'd recommend to take Nullo internal deodorizer. Especially in your situation. It will really help with the smell and knock it down a few levels. If you do have an accident the smell won't be so offending.

Hey Veren! I've had IBS since I was probably 6, so a long time. I've also suffered from Generalized Anxiety Disease (got over it with meds). And, I have severe OAB. Yay for me.

First, it would probably help your anxiety if you wore protection. Diapers or pullups with an inner cuff guard are the best for containing messes. A good start would be the Northshore Supreme Lite. It's not nearly as absorbent as the regular Supreme, but it will contain messes. Next, change your diet and work on your stress levels. These two things are major IBS triggers. For example, I never eat food that is fried or high in fat because it triggers an episode. Coffee is another trigger. Drink plenty of water and eat fresh foods and whole grains. You can manage IBS and when you can't, that's what your diaper is for. I've had my fair share of accidents without diapers, which is far worse. I'm sorry you have to deal with this, but things can get better. Good luck.

Fried doesn't bother me, but fatty meats will. Sometimes a big steak will do it. There used to be a great little polish sausage stand that I loved. I just knew however that if I ate one that I needed to have a bathroom close at hand a little later on. Also, acidic foods like some tomato sauces exacerbate it for me.

As with food allergies (when you don't know what the trigger is), figuring things out is tedious. Keep a diary of what you eat and when you experience your reactions. Eventually, you'll work up the list of foods you want to avoid.

Thanks for the support everyone. My doctor and nurse said its ok to wear them for anxiety relief because my anxiety triggers it. And my therapist and the nurse protactioneer also said I have to wear them. And my doctor said my ibs isnt life threatening. My therapist says its triggered by my anxiety and it is different for everyone. My therapist also said she has no issue with me being an ABDL either because I told her I was one. She flat out asked me about if I had any sexual fetishes. So I admitted it. She was actually really laid back about it Shes really open minded. She did tell me she still wants me to wear them though in case I have an accident at work or doing outtings. Because I have a disabiliy and Im getting help with the board of developmetal retardation disabilities. Sorry if someone finds this offensive I just feel relief of my chest telling my therapist im a ABDL. So I hope no one thinks im using my ibs an excuse to wear diapers because Im not. Ive been told I have to wear them anyway and I have no issues about degrading if it helps it helps. I wont wear them all the time though. Just to prevent leakage when im out in public or sleeping at night. Thanks again for being supportive. What do you think of my therapist being extremely laid back and accepting im a ABDL? Sorry guys. Thanks. She actually encourages it and explore more. But im getting my ibs treated tho. Can being an ABDL help me calm down my anxiety as well? Please share your story. Thanks guys sorry for changing topic.

i use lomotol works great and when I am away from a bathroom or confine I also use atns they fit me and work the best for me every one is built different

anxiety is the reason I went 24/7 with diapers, yeah it can be a literal crap shoot some days

Yea im gonna have to wear diapers 24/7 now until we can get me off them according to my therapist and doctor. It sucks but if it helps with anxiety and keeps me from wetting in public and all that it helps. Gonna keep this topic on topic so I wont get in trouble. Thanks guys for support. Also what can I buy to dispose my diapers in? I dont know how to throw them away I just got them. Thanks! :)

It seems you have two perfectly good reasons to be wearing diapers. If there's nothing about them that bothers you, I don't see any reason at all to be concerned about it. Pad up and relax! Keep wearing until you don't feel you have a reason to wear anymore.

I do what I do because I want to or I feel I need to. I don't need any other reason, and I don't feel I need to apologize for it or justify it to anyone else. If I can justify something to myself, that's totally good enough to satisfy me. I recommend this line of thinking to anyone. Don't let yourself get stressed over others opinions of you or what you should or shouldn't be doing. Be true to yourself, all others can go pound sand ;)

I like the Tena Flex, they are absorbant and have side walls for bowel accidents, and are good for changing in a public stall - you dont need three hands or have to remove out pants.
