So it seems for a lot of people, once they start wearing diapers 24/7 for incontinence issues (bladder OR bowel), the other one comes along not far after. Now I can deal with wet diapers, they're a minor inconvenience, but I absolutely want to do whatever I can to avoid having to deal with messy accidents. Thankfully I haven't had to deal with anything like that yet, but in order to catch it before it becomes a problem, I've looked into it. Now, I'm no sort of doctor, but it's my guess that it happens due to atrophy of the pelvic floor muscles.

When I get a bladder spasm it's painful, and when I let it go, the pain goes away. This sort of setup subconsciously teaches you to use your diaper more and more, and whatever control you have quickly goes away. In order to hopefully avoid this slippery slope, I've started doing kegel exercises for a minute or two a few times a day to keep my pelvic floor muscles in shape. I've also tried holding back during a bladder spasm, but that tends to get painful fast, and (again, I'm not a doctor) I don't think it helps significantly.

I can't say yet how good this might work for the long term, but I've 24/7 in diapers for over 2 years now with not even a close call of bowel IC so far.

Opinions?

Unfortunately Bowel accidents can and some times do start after wearing diapers 24/7 I have been wearing for 3 years for an OAB and I am now having unexpected bowel movments and they are happening more frequently as time goes on.

I have been urinary incontinent (one type or another, starting with urge and now being complete/non-incontient) for 21 years now. No wait, 22. While I did have a problem with my internal pressure and straining, which cause some bowel.... problems. I am thankfully, not bowel incontinent. Though admitably I do have a few accidents from time to time, they are a rare occurrence.

For maintaining bowel control I recommend what my proctologist told me. 2-3 times a day, simply squeeze your anal sphincter-
tight, for 10 seconds, but while maintaining no control over your urinary sphincter. It sounds easy, but try it.

ps. I highly recommend NOT holding back an urge. Trust me from experience that fighting that is a loosing battle. You are best just letting go of your urinary "control". You already know it's going to happen anyways, so this is where the borg say resistance is futile. Instead, focus on not loosing your bowel control.

Since you alredy wear protection i would try to not worry to much and IF it does happen youre alredy prepared so i would try to mentally prepare youre self as well for the possibility of this to happen. I can tell you from my experince (read my Sig) altough its DEFENETLY NOT a comfy feeling of having a BM its not as bad as you think ether and as long as youre prepared (incl mentally ) & have the setup alredy for it its not the end of the world

I agree with Slomo trying to hold back ether nr 1 or nr 2 for a longer period is a battle you WHONT win and you only risk further complications down the road

Sort of like moving your pinky finger but not your ring finger... This is exactly what I was looking for though, it’s great to have some verified info with experience to back that up.

Yeah I tried messing my diaper once just to see what the deal was (totally voluntarily). As you said, I’m already padded, so not to worry.

I instantly regretted it. Regretted it even more after the cleanup. Some enjoy it, and if you do, that’s great! Just not for me, something I’d prefer to avoid at all costs.

Oh i HATE when it happens dont get me wrong and i had to work hard on my self for being able to finaly accept (and again DEEPLY HATE it & i do everything i can to prevent it from happening BUT in my case its a loosing battle) when it happens at the begining of my severe (ie 24 / 7 protection (rougly 6 months a go from SLOWLY but stedily progressing to Severe ) Period was becoming so aggrivited, i wouldent which this on my worst enemy if that clarifies my thoughts about al this , what i ment was its better to try to prepare youre self so that youre mentally better prepared for IF /when it does happen NOT thats a walk in the park because its not . also from what what i found out before i came in here was that the risk is higher for us starting with Fecal in the begining to develop Urinary then the other way BUT as been stated in here it aparantly seem to go both ways. again i agree that you should do Everything you can to avoid this BUT sadly i have to say NOT to al costs ) ie something that risks further medical problems due to it)

I've thought about that. I WOULD wish this on my worst enemy. After all, it's his fault I ended up this way- so do onto those, and all that.

Fair enough Slomo i can based on youre statment underststand some of youre feelings in this matter

btw right or wrong i googeld risk of fecal from Urine Inc and so far i havent had 1 hit (scratching head ) ALOT of them vice verce tho thats NOT to say it dosent happen as is clearly the case but possibly less risk then for us starting with fecal

I can see it being a possibility. This morning I woke to a bowel movement. First time in well, since I was a kid. Had another mid afternoon that surprised me too.

Am concerned what's happening, but at the same time not surprised either.

Best get started with those sphincter exercises!

(I haven't been on the forum in a while so I am a little late to this thread, but I felt I had to chime in here)

I've been fully urinary-incontinent for around 6 years, and wearing 24/7 for most of that time, but I haven't developed bowel incontinence so it's not inevitable. There have been a handful of bowel accidents but no more than once or twice a year - so I'm inclined to think that there is a minor and related issue going on, but it hasn't worsened at all over the years so I have no reason to think that it will get worse in time, nor that it will automatically happen for everyone who has urinary incontinence.

Yeah, I know this feel. Before my spinal problems got as bad as they are I was actually having some success at making it to the bathroom for bowel movements, I've always had both urinary and bowel incontinence, but the latter was somewhat less severe than the former. Ever since mobility became an issue I just have zero chance of getting up in time for that though. Long ago bit that bullet.

I don't usually mess when out about but I out about in Plymouth as I know they have a changing place toilet I wear a nappy instead of the of my pads .
I know was quite distance from the room I felt I needed go as I was already wet I jut let myself messed my nappy as I like I was told by my bladder nurse not to try hold any urge just let go .It was nice one way know I got nice room with a bed to change myself .but at first there were a que mothers waiting with there little one to use mother and disable loo . so I just walk pass got my key out and use the room .
I notice in a Tesco store they now have a sign on door not all disable is visible as once I was talking to a nurse she said use the disable loo to change my pads as I was saying lack of bins in the mens to put a pad into .

My urinary urge incontinence is the result of a surgical mishap when I was 14 years old. I’m 75 now. So it’s been a while. Over these 61 years, I have not developed bowel incontinence. I’ve had a handful of bowel accidents when I had stomach flu, but those accidents have been fewer than one per year.

I have OAB I have to pee every 5-10 minutes is this a sign of urinary incontinence should i wear protection because its so inconvenient to run to the bathroom

You should absolutely see a doctor ASAP, as that is some pretty severe OAB. To the degree that I’d imagine you can’t ever leave the bathroom... How do you even sleep?! In the meantime, I’m sure you already have problems with leakage, and wearing protection would help with that.

It happened to me as loss of control of my bladder due to a atv accident back 30 some years ago, went through all the painful testing the doctors and specialists could think of to find out the nerves that control the bladder where damaged and no longer working, so I had to start wearing diapers full time, up to this point in my life I wore diapers when I could as I enjoy wearing diapers.
Fast forward a few years and I notice I am slowly loosing control of my bowels, having more frequent messing accidents, go in to see the doctor and specialist and more testing, yep you guessed it, they found no underlying reason for bowle control loss.
So I did what anyone in my shoes would have done, I gave in and just let it happen as needed and now I no longer have to worry about when I need to go as it just happens and I deal with it as needed.

Not every one thst suffers bladder issues becomes dual incontinent, but most of us will experience a few unexpected bowel movments from time to time. Mine unfortunately are hapening more often I am up to 2 to 3 a week now I have come to terms with it and dont stress when it happens as my wife reminds me I am diapered for my OAB already so if it hapens its no big deal as the diaper so far has kept it contained. I can handle being bladder IC but I really do to want to be dual incontinent but if it happens theres nothing I can do about it exept adapt.

I've been having frequent messing accidents too. I try to poop on the toilet but I don't always make it.

I bought protection today i used 5 incontinence pads at work some of them i flooded but my work pants are black so the leak didnt show
