Serial tinkerer here... cars, electronics, computers, software, DIY... although I'm now "over" DIY and into DIY-Avoidance / just pay someone rather than ruin your weekend...

UK based so hello to Ade and Blueboy  don't know about AX's but do know the pain of unexpected MOT failure!

Two "project" cars, three sheds, no time and no money! Built a few cars over the years, been racing (tech support) in some stupid places. Unfortunately I'm not going to post any of it here as I really want to keep things separate.

Reckon that nappies under overalls are the solution for extended spannering sessions in a cold workshop :D

howdo.
i know about avoiding DIY: i've been re-tiling the kitchen window-sill since Spring
mind you, it has taken a fair bit of levelling off and the filler knocks me sick and gives me migraines, so i've been waiting for Summer, so that i can leave the backdoor open. ahhh, Summer; do you remember those two days?

If you send yourself and a pristine Land Rover Defender 110 in a crate to this side of the pond I have a feeling we'll be REALLY good friends !!!

There's no such thing as a pristine Defender! I did the factory tour, the final stage is burly men with crow bars and hammers bending the doors to fit properly!

Neither of mine are anywhere near pristine that's for damn sure. Mind you, neither of mine are old enough to be Defender and neither are 110 inches /anorak

Z06 are decent, well they make good engine donors...

Another "Gearheads" foto - Me this summer somwhere in Andalucia:

I used to be a heavy diesel mechanic, and still do all my own maintenance and repairs as well as for everyone in my family. From farm equipment to pickups I still do what I can with my failing health.

Last year at SEMA I got to see some of the Icon FJ Cruisers that they had restored, including a rare as hell 4 door series 40 and a pristine series 70. Do want

I’m a diesel mechanic by triad. I work for my self now and take care of a hand full of costumers. I decided to get back into racing full time in May of this year after being out for a few years. I’m a crew chief and mechanic for a good friend of mine who races every thing dirt. I still got it and we made top 10 at home track starting 1/2 season down. And we made it into the dome in St.L in December.
Nobody else in my life knows about my secret, and this is my first time posting here and talking about it to anyone.

I've got a four-post lift in my airplane hangar. I've been known to turn a wrench...

I’m working on building a shop lol. I use the teams facility. I was tired of diesels every day cars. I decided to risk it all and do what I love. Race cars are my LEGOs or connects set now I get to use my imaginenation and all my skills to the fullest and it’s the best thing I ever done. It only took me till 30 to figure out what I want in life lol.

I'm not a mechanic by trade, but I do love working on my cars when I get a chance. In my early college days, I had a 2003 R53 Mini Cooper S that was pushing about 260 to the front wheels thanks to some supercharge mods. Sadly it was full of gremlins and I had to trade it. I currently have a 2011 Mazda 3 2.5L. My friends call it the Franken Mazda because most of the suspension and exhaust system are parts off a gen2 speed3. Hopefully, once I get out of law school I can pick up one of those sweet new Miata's

yes have been all my life

ive built 4 small block chevys. i have an 88 iroc and an 03 silverado im working on.

I also enjoy wrenching, but only at my own pace. I hate being rushed if I'm fixing something, no matter what it is.
Of course, nothing does beat the feeling of starting up an antique machine after you complete a full overhaul and it's just yearning to go to work.

I've got a 1989 Ford Mk4 Escort estate in custard yellow £425, it has a 1.3 OHV engine with a huge 59hp and Manual choke
I've had £600 worth of welding done due to a bodged repair by previous owner (stuck a repair sill over rotten one so in rotted out inner sill )
Engine wise I'm currently refrubing a 1.4 CVH 75hp to go in there and it's all plug and play , no wire cutting , no engine mount mods no exhaust mods , it's either new stuff that fits same mounting points or in the case of wiring , the OHV loom for coil pack etc was a plug in add on so straight swap

I'm not sure who's come out classier from that - parcelboy in his Escort or ade with that awful pun. :dunno:

I might actually wave some spanners round in the garage this weekend, and might do it padded to keep the cold at bay!

Ugh still shiver thinking. Recently did an engine swap over new years. Wrenching on a cold engine outside in 7°F temps sucks dick (not in the good way either [emoji6])
