What is the best brand of tape on diapers for those who are wheelchair bound, I need one for both bowel and bladder usage. I just started wearing diapers due to the fact that I am sometimes out for almost 6 hours now and I need protection for when I am not home I don't have the ability due to the fact that I have DMD and my muscles are really weak. I was wonder what else you would recommend for let's say skin care, plastic pants, clothing, and etc., anything that would help me as a wheelchair user. I have tried a couple brands of diaper and some were ok, but most leaked.

There are no simple answers because you are unique and some things depend on your location. Being out 6 hours does seem to indicate a need for effective protection. I hope you have access to help from a continence specialist advisor or nurse who should be able to assist you to make decisions about the best way to cope without running risks of skin problems or other difficulties that it is very important to avoid.

If this kind of support is hard to get where you are maybe we could offer suggestions about getting it?

I dated a guy in a wheelchair a few years back and was right out with him that I wear full diapers nearly all the time. I was able to care for him some and would change him in public and in his chair in my apt. The most important thing for you and for me is to wear top quality diapers and apply them tightly. Plastic pants are a must to contain odor. I would use two pairs of Gary active briefs in two sizes and wear them both with a double seal at the waist and legs. Can you feel when you have wet or soiled yourself? I would buy medium seni quatro briefs. There's also a new seni guard that fits over one's penis that can catch a big wetting and can be changed. That might be more than you can handle. They are called seni man fit.

How has it been wearing full adult briefs with tapes? Do you have a caregiver to help ?

Can you lift yourself off the seat just enough to shimmy them down (if wearing pullups)?

I find that abena work well, I am in a wheelchair as well, and I often use them while sitting. I have not had any real problem with leaks.

Abena and tranquility atn work well. If you have troubles with bowels you should check the diaper more often. I have had some leaks but my cna Always keeps a chux on my chairs just in case.

I'll throw out Drycare 24/7 diapers, because if you flood larger voids, these can handle them better. They have a high capacity and allows you to be out longer without needing a change.

Plastic pants are a good option, just make sure they are wide enough in the crotch so they can provide extra protection vs leaks.

Ok I am now reciving diapers through Medicaid due to my disease, they are only providing the cheap ones which are the prevail brand. Can you tell what method I could do to make sure they don't leak, I just ordered the velcro diaper covers from dependeco, due to them having good reviews, instead of using plastic pants due to them causing rashes a lot due to the rubbing, should arrive soon. What cream or stuff would you use to protect skin from breakdown/rashes/bedsores. I am always in a wheelchair everyday and I am not bed ridden. I have Duchenne muscular dystrophy, 20 years old, and I am currently lucky that my parents are going to take care of me in college and get paid to help as well, which will help them out and make me more happy.
:D Me and my parents have been screwed by the Government many times by people who do not know how to do their job by approve stuff that I need to live life by, such as my wheelchair, bed etc. , people getting paid before the job is done, I live in Ohio and I am on the IO waiver, and people who slack to get stuff done. I am happy to know that I am getting help from you guys. We don't know if the IO waiver in Ohio can pay for premium diapers, because no wonder so many parents hate these *Shit* products that Medicaid pays for, to be given to help their kids with Disabilities, such as me when I want to do some stuff in the public and have to worry about what I am going to do about going #2, which is a waste because they would spend less if they worked better then these cheap things. Sorry for this rant, but it feels good to get this out, thanks for the help. Any more advice would help. P.S. - You don't know how many times I wanted to go off on these people who try to help me, but their not really helping. I don't even know who to vote for and who's going to help us people with disabilities, because no one has said anything for people with disabilities. =《PLEASE DO NOT CAUSE ANY POLITICAL PROBLEMS DUE TO THIS POST》

There's nothing very political except for the fact that the government doesn't do anything to help out their citizens much at all. They let insurance companies determine how you should live your life. I have a friend of mine that once got seriously injured (neck and back) on the job and they sent spies to watch him and once he picked up his small child and the insurance company brought him to court to challenge his disability.

Regarding incontinence supplies, you should contact product distributors and try to get products outside of Medicaid. Check out HDIS, they provide Medicaid coverage for the state of Ohio.

Tried HDIS, they offer the really cheap ones. I did try to get tranquility diapers through them but Medicaid will not cover them. They only offered two brands the wings and nu-fit, which are not as good as tranquility.

First, be sure that the diapers are on TIGHTLY. Any little gap, and they will leak. If you have control, urinate VERY slowly. Diapers generally handle small amounts better than huge fast floods. Consider double diapering...wearing two diapers at once. Be sure to cut or poke holes in the cover of the inner diaper so that liquid can flow through.

I bought some diaper covers from dependeco. Anybody who is disabled have a state waiver, because I need to answer some questions.

Being full time in a power chair and full time IC as for dispees localy I wear Tranquility ATN for any kind of long distance travel or where changes may be irregular or infrequent at all , I used to wear Abena but have found the Northshore Supreme to have a better front end, tape the bottoms down very tight and point up, I can get 12 hours out of a Northshore when needed, of course you are sitting on most of the absorbency of the diaper, so if you can tilt or recline and shift your weight around its a major help, and always wear a good "blowsing" pair of rubber pants or rubber bloomers, I have been saved several times by the water balloon ability of the pants, to allow urine to build up in the center of the pants when the diaper became over saturated, also if you can dress down ( look like you are wearing sweats) the European Pajamas. UK site sells pants and shorts that can absorb like 30 Oz independent of any diaper, they also do not show publicly the internal state of wet/dryness, not everybody (like all things ) likes them but they are an option and a final level of defense against leaks or embarrassment, also make sure to put a disposable chux over your cushion and use an IC cover over your cushion , if wetness gets that far you can machine wash and dry it and we'll it going take the cushion outside or into the shower and give it a good hose down, my final advice is Adaptable designs makes a wheelchair bag that will conveint lyrics hook to most any chair or walker , it is large enough to store legal tiles, or to be a handy diaper bag, it will easily hold 3 or 4 Northshore Supremes fresh pants, a changing mat as well as any skin products you may use ( lotion, powder ,cream) has a handy, place forb id's , keys as well as wet or dry wipes, this company has provided me usefull bags the whole time I have been in a chair (13+ YEARS) and I have not worn one out yet ( side note the woman Mary who owned the company wanted to retire and almost closed the business, until some clients , users of her bags came along and bought the company so we would continue to have access to high quality usefull stuff designed and made by your fellow wheelers.

If I can help in any way with info or opinions on resources or programs for the disabled or IC do not hesitate to PM or post me me I will be glad to help anyway I can.

Thank you, but who pays for your diapers. I have tried getting tranquility ATN's but Medicaid will not cover them.

Medicaid in a lot of places will not pay they are to high quality! Many places the first quality or wings is the best you get , if your local to Pa Ny or OH, I am 90 minutes from the borders of NY and Ohio I am selling 10 brand new Cass of Tranquility for $250. With 2 new pairs of plastic pants and a couple of onesie's , a full "turn key" diapering solution for anyone , that's 10,000 diapers.

There are only 3 states to my knowledge that still pay for ATN'S everyone else has declared them to good a diaper , if you are in a state that went that way something like wings are the best you can get covered , I take any extras I have and my friends have and give them away to the IC and ABDL'S who can not afford or access them , I am the regional diaper bank since none exists within 100 miles in any direction, over Christmas I gave away 40 cases to some guys who were laid off from work and living and supporting there families on there retirement savings .it's good to be nice especially when the tables could turn anytime on anyone of us .

Ohio is a state that does not provide ATN'S, I just had a guy come from there a few months ago who was laid off and desperately in need of any protection and was shocked when I gave him ATN'S, Ohio is a state that believes protection that has to be changed every 1/2 to 1 hour is still protection none the less .

I am disabled and on waiver services what you got big boy , I am pretty versed and if not have the resources to get the answer.

I am lucky to be in CA. if you need a different brand or type you could try having your dr write a letter saying why the change would help. If you get sores because of leaks for example. I had to do this to switch to the underwear type. I have limited use of my hands and the diapers with tape are just not doable. Also, you could see if they will cover a store brand. Personally, I find most store brands work much better than Depend ( the brand insurance started me with)

Yeah years ago before the switchover to mostly cloth feel with velcro , I was paralyzed in my right arm, and had to push everyone at my insurance company to allow me to order a "luxury feature" diaper that had velcro instead of tape ( if that's a luxury feature I would hate to know there policy on over night absorbency ) special reasons of need can be accommodated with a prescription and making a PIA of yourself in most cases , getting the pencil pushers to see you the person and not just a file number is the biggest trick, they will usually accommodate a person with a special or unique need as long as they see a person with a unique need, that is usually accomplished by blowing up there phone daily.

prevails are not easy to use as they arent really designed for full incontinent individuals who have issues changing themselves so much as individuals who need extra protection and can make it to the toilet. If you have to use those plastic pants will be an absolute must, you may want to get some stuffer pads, to put in their. of its an option, first quality is a better product by prevail

As Dayannight pointed out there are no simple awnsers to your questions about this subject although for me because I am, or should I say will be going to be going through a simillar thing soon as I will be in a wheelchair or on crutches for 6-8 weeks as of November or December following my operation on my feet as per my earlier blogs, I do have all of sympathy with you as I am an upwardly mobile person but I will have to get used to either using a powered Mobility scooter or manual wheelchair following my surgery to correct a problem with I have had all of my life that is preventing me to walk properly at this stage as in my toes are bending under each other due to the fact my bones had a growth abnormality when I was born.

Although this won't be the first-time I have been in a wheelchair that was in 1986 after a head injury following an accident at home although thankfully that was only for one day, you see I was 6 years old and was watching Indiana Jones and was sitting atop of the sofa when it collapsed backwards and I hit my head hard on something and ended up with severe concussion and spending a few days in the local hospital in the emergency ward to get checked out so there was nothing more serious happening all I had a high fever and the flu although that was unrelated and so they kept me in for another 2 days to treat that as well before I was let home again 4 days later.

I also have a friend of mine who has a painfull and debilitating life-long condition known as Multiple Sclerosis and is in a wheelchair for life so I understand what you are going through, but getting back to the subject at hand I would recommend that you use the most absorbent diapers you can get and use them for managing your problems.

As I am unsure about which brand is the best for you at this time as all that I can advise you on although I send you all of my support and huggs in the form of friendship.

Yours sincerely
