--So Mesmerale and I were having a [Query] discussion over IRC, and we decided to start our very own roleplay thread!--

EDIT: I pronounce it "Die-uh-knee-uh" but that's just with my quick-talking accent. I think the proper [british] pronunciation would be "Die-oh-knee-uh"

Information

This thread will follow the daily lives of a college of (non-abdl except for a handful of closeted people) young adults studying the field of... magic. It's set in modern times. The roleplay will be broken down into sections; it'll start as the classes start (people will be in different classes according to interest, limited by the number of 'professors' and 'students'), and then move on through the classes. The classes will usually end at the same time, and the students will gather for a couple hours, then another class or assembly, or even a demonstration. Lather, rinse, repeat. Magic is loosely grouped into fields of study, ranging from physics-based magic to occult magic and spirituality. Students are enrolled in one or two programs; non-roleplayed professors will be given to the admins of the thread (currently Mez and NS) and occasionally there will be guests.

Accessories: Watch on right wrist. Nonspecific watch; calibrated to be roughly accurate with the college's clocks.
Magical Abilities: Manipulates energy & mass. Creates matter out of energy. "Charges" mana crystals to use themselves in various spells when broken. Can convert one kind of energy to another. Taps into his own innate energy to cast spells and such. Examples of use include: (pure) energy --> movement, propelling something forward, heat --> energy, absorbing heat from his surroundings to recover energy he's lost, and energy --> heat to make fire.
Personality: Likes honesty and skill. Dislikes anyone not willing to learn. Mostly pragmatic -- knows Krav Maga and applies its principles to his Combat Magic course (which he co-teaches with several other professors).
Biography: Grew up as an orphan in New York; taken in by a veteran and taught manners. When he was old enough, he got himself an education (the veteran passed away a couple weeks before Evan started school) and decided to teach others while looking for his calling.
Enrollment: Teacher: Physical magic, and also Handcrafted Artifacts.
Other: Hangs out around the outdoor shooting range, practicing magic. Occasionally hangs out in the Elemental Magic classroom as an aide, but only when he has a free period. Sometimes goes to the arcade to play games. Lives on-campus. [[Ask for an explanation of how he does something if you don't understand, but be forewarned that I'm not good at putting things into layman's terms -- I feel a need to explain every nuance of my system in order to tell you how he can make mana crystals out of energy.]]

Outer layer: A thin black jacket with purple and silver swirls all along it, giving the illusion of waves of light pulsing from the top to the bottom of the jacket.

Inner layer: Purple t-shirt, loose pants with alternating black and silver waves.

Under-layer: Purple bra and panties (I suppose.)

Accessories: a thin silver necklace with a diamond pendant hanging at the end (Imbued with the powers of her old team. Fire, Wind, Water, and Electricity)

Magical Abilities: Psychic, Shadow and Ghost (Focus around power without the need of a body. { Mental ability, Spirit ability, Shadow ability } On the extreme reaches of the Supernatural realm.)

Personality: Is a bit of a show-off, and will use her Psychic abilities to give the impression of omniscience (All-knowing). Becomes annoyed with those who refuse to pay attention to detail. (Those who would rather learn the shortcuts instead of the lesson itself.) Takes pride in her experience in the Elemental Magics, as well as the Supernatural Magics.

Biography: Jessica Fantasma-Ombra Mentale, her name gave her away in many cases, just as the eighteen year old girl had intended. Jessica was the name her parents had given her, but the other names were her own. Fantasma: Ghost, Ombra: Shadow, and Mentale: Mental, for those were her powers. The powers of Psychic, Shadow, and Ghost.

Enrollment: Teacher of the Elemental Magics and the Spiritual Magics. Lives on the grounds, but appears to have her own domain elsewhere as well.

Other: Will usually be found outside. Enjoys teaching "Gifted" combat to those willing to learn and get knocked around a bit. Can typically be found with a simple mental "call" in the hopes of catching her mental ear.

Jessica is able to do many things seemingly 'outside' of her abilities. If at any time you don't believe that she should be able to do something, call me out on it and I will gladly explain how it is possible and within her abilities.

And now, I shall start off this wonderful role-play with my introduction post. (It's one that I use often, so don't think that you have to come up with anything as long as it is, or as detailed. I worked for awhile on this and, therefore, am able to make it appear very well-written in a short amount of time, when it really took a good deal longer to create.)

Her hand reached up to brush a strand of light brown hair out of her eyes as she focused on a tree that was about one hundred yards infront of her. Jess's breathing slowed, the girl's body becoming extremely close to a meditative state. She imagined a large portal before her, easily towering over her 5 foot 5 inch body. Grimacing, she lowered to portal until its height was just a few inches above her own. Only Jessica could see this portal, as she had created it from her own mind.

Her dark blue eyes flashed purple, as they always did when used her abilities. Sometimes, when her 'magic' flowed into her blood, her eyes turned full purple for long periods of time. Jessica now imagined a strand of energy shooting out of the portal she had created and connecting with a second portal, directly infront of the tree she had been staring at. With a half step, so fast that to anyone that may have been watching, it would appear as if she hadn't moved at all, she stepped into the portal. In less then a second, Jessica traveled along the cord connecting the two portals and she reappeared directly infront of the tree. This was an example of teleportation, a power that Jessica had long mastered, among other skills. Brushing some dust of her purple t-shirt and straightening her black and silver pants, she walked over to another tree, jumping high into the air to land on one of the upper-most branches of the magnificent tree.

Jess sat, staring down at the landscape before her as her hand slowly went to the diamond pendant at her neck. Her mouth opened, and the girl whispered something as she held the necklace, "OH, πώς σας χάνω, οι φίλοι μου." (Oh, how I miss you, my friends.) The words almost flowing out of her mouth as she spoke the old language of a planet that she had spent nearly four years of her life. She let go of the pendant, allowing it to fall until caught by the chain and held many inches below her neck. Closing her eyes, she mentally scanned the area for other people, new or old, gifted or not.

Hopes to one day be able to use magic to influence others' thoughts

Personality: Likes talking to friends. Going to magical college as a supplement to ordinary education. Wants to become a psychiatrist. Hates being overworked. Also dislikes RL trolls.

Biography: Grew up in the South, with rednecks. Her family has so many frigging problems it's not even funny anymore. She idolizes their psychiatrist and wants to be like him when she grows up.

Enrollment: Student; Majoring in mental magic. Minors in psychology. (As far as the story goes, it'll be assumed she takes online psych courses.)

Name: Marc des Savages

Outer layer: Long Black Parka (fake white fur on hood) that he only removes on the hottest of hot days.

Inner layer: Brightly coloured T-shirt, loose fiting black jeans, dark leather boots

Under-layer: whatever was on the top of the pile when he got dressed this morning :p

Accessories: Tinted sunglasses, stud in left ear

Magical Abilities: Naturally protected against mental magic (see biography), he can cause objects to move in a way such as to open locks, pick up objects without touching them and throw or stop projectiles. Using this power to effect something as heavy as a human or heavier is possible with specialist training. He also has a basic knowledge of most magical techniques in theory (though can't use them) and knows ways of analysing magic and related effects in all their forms.

Personality: Comes across as stubborn and a loner, though he enjoys talking to people who in his view 'don't act like idiots'. Loves magic tricks or 'fake magic' as he calls it, and is rarely without a pack of cards and some dice. Hard working, though prone to arguing with those who teach him. Dislikes being put on the spot and takes a slight challenge as a personal attack.

Biography: The half English, half French son of a high level business man and his estranged wife, Marc was raised in Sheffield, England - most of the time. On occasion he travelled the world with his father. On one of these trips Marc met a researcher of magic, who noticed that Marc was a mental null (near impervious to mental magic). It was this oddity in his own magical nature that drew him towards a magical education. He himself hopes to become a Magician-Detective, using his powers to hunt down those who misuse theirs.

Enrollment: Student, Majoring in Physical Magic, minor in Magic Theory

Other: Lives on campus, though that doesn't mean he will be on there outside of study time. In fact, he probably won't be.

Magical Abilities: Enveno was born with the ability to command magic through verbal language. While single words can be satisfactory, his strength depends on the fluency of his words and the detail put into a spell.

Personality: A born poet, Enveno's head spins with rhymes and descriptions. He shows passion in his magical art, but tends to be more focused on the words rather then the teachings behind them. Enveno is a social person, and can often be found with his circle of friends outside amongst the rocks and grass.

Biography: Enveno was born in Seville, Spain. At age six, he and his family moved to Madrid. Two years later, Enveno's ability began to emerge. His word became more than simply words, they became powerful. Enveno knew that people listened to him when he demanded something, though he didn't know why. When Enveno turned fifteen, it was decided that he would live in America with his Aunt and Uncle. Enveno did not protest; he was eager to see what the world was like outside of Spain. One year later, as his magical development progressed, an ambassador from Dioena University contacted Enveno and offered him admission. Enveno immediately accepted, and has been a student at the university for the following year.
