I don't remember the last time I went to the doctors...I think I'm pretty healthy though...My mom keeps saying that she needs to make a doctors appointment really, but I wish she wouldn't...The only part the I hate is when the prick your finger for blood...It's so painful...Shots are fine, but the blood thing is hell...I'm fine with dentists I guess, but I'd prefer not to go...I prefer the eye doctor over anything, since they don't really ever have to give you shots or prick you or anything...Just looking into your eye

Doctors are very useful. I don't go to the doctor often because I don't get sick often. About psychologists, well, it's cool that they're helping people and all, but I don't totally trust the whole discretion thing. I believe they tell parents anything you tell them because really, who's going to report them? Meh, I'm seeing a psychologist because my mom thinks I have Social Anxiety Disorder or something...

I don't mind seeing doctors. My file is a couple inches thick total. I currently go periodically to a psychiatrist. There is just one thing I don't like. Needles. They freak me out! I generally try to do asif I don't mind but it's kind of obvious.

Dentists have always caused me anxiety. I put off having my impacted wisdom teeth out for many years. When I finally had it done it was my first general anesthesia and I was scared as hell. Turned out to be no big deal. My Ex was 20 years younger than me, I took her to the same oral surgeon for hers when she was 21 was.
My shrink is cool, he accepts my dolls and diapers as a part of my life. I have a real good emergency room near by. They sew me up and even put the tip of my thumb back on once. I’ve taken my Exes and their kids there many times too. They are expensive though. I don’t like my GP. They rush me through and require a separate visit, another bill, for each complaint. I can’t get my sinus medicine refilled if I’m there for a skin rash or something. Best wishes for an easy wisdom tooth job! Nam |

Unfortunately, I've become more skeptical with how doctors in general care for their patients. I'm hearing, and experiencing first hand, how some are not monitoring their patients when the medications they're prescribing require constant monitoring on the doctor's part. My FIL died last year mainly for this reason, and my MIL has been hospitalized more than once due to inadequate monitoring by her physician as well. I don't like doctors who get upset if you dare to question a procedure or medication they want to use on you. It's your body and you have the right to know what's going on. You also have the right to know of any serious side affects a certain medication might have, so you will know what to look for if you take it.
Not all doctors are so neglectful with their treatment and there are lots of physicians who truly care for their patients welfare, but YOU are the one who needs to be in control of your own health. You need to do your homework so you're completely informed to make a sound decision if your doctor prescribes a certain course of treatment for an ailment, whether surgery is involved or not. Doctors may have a degree and experience with the human body, but they're also just as imperfect as their patients, and can occasionally make a wrong decision or use poor judgement. Bottom line: if you don't agree with what they're telling you, you have the right to question them and you absolutely should. If they won't give you a satisfactory answer than get a second opinion. Sorry if I sound so down on doctors. It was one year last week since my wife's dad passed away due to his doctors' *care* and we're still upset over what happened. If you're fortunate to have a doctor who's really good and listens to you, by all means hang onto him/her because there are some out there who have no business practicing medicine. Now, as for me personally going for examinations, I've never been crazy about them. I do not like blood test needles at all and usually start gagging after blood is drawn. This even though I don't watch! However, exams are even more important as you get older to catch things which might be going on inside before they become serious. Something I've needed to learn to deal with in older age. ~Pramrider |

I'm okay with doctors, especially psychologists. They are impartial and they often talk more sense then anyone else I can go and talk to IRL. I especially like it now that I am over 16 and go in and see any doctors without my parents.
For needles - see what Martin said. I am exactly the same and try to do the same thing. So far I have no success. It is obvious I am worried and obvious that whoever is stabbing me knows this. And we both pretend that we don't. If I wasn't panicking at the time I'd probably find it pretty funny. |
