A. shes a new face, john McCain is just about change as much as Obama is tough in a whole other direction having a new face helps convey that. B. Shes a woman, now even if McCain and her wins its just as historic as Obama becoming president. C. It can very well help Hillary supporters chose Mccain. I have no doubt in my mind that some woman voted for Hillary since she was a woman. Same goes for black people since Obama is black. Its not illegal to vote on sex nor race or age. McCain pretty much already had all bases covered himself, all he had to do was drop a shocker and that he did. |

Now, personally I think all this stuff and nonsense about experience or gravitas and such is irrelevant and superficial packaging and PR - a distraction from the substantive issues and policies that the candidates represent, but playing the experience card is not going to anywhere near as easy as it has been for the McCain campaign now. If it matters for a presidential candidate then it matters for a VP who is a heartbeat away from taking the top job from a man in his seventies who has suffered from cancer. Whatever I might think about the relevance of experience it is a potentially effective card and now every time it's brought up by the Republicans there is an easy counter from the Democrats that they didn't have before. I think it's a hell of a gamble from McCain and it's going to change the dynamics of the election notably. Quite a lot depends on her now and it will be interesting to see how she fares against Biden in the debates. |

I love it how every one goes OMG HERR HUZBAND USED TO RUN OYL COMPANY!!!!!!!1
Her husband was a mid level employee that left to avoid conflict of interest. And no one has mentioned that she raised taxes on oil and natural gas, bringing in billions to the state. She is not the candidate of "Big Oil", whatever the hell that means. EDIT: Another interesting tidbit: Mr. Palin was union. Wow. |

The experience factor, IMO, is far far overblown on both ends of the debate. McCain isn't going to make a good president because he's old, and Obama won't make a bad president because he's young. As President, you surround yourself with smart people who come up with options, and you decide on the best course of action.
In the interest of full disclosure, I dislike Obama for many reasons. But youth is not one of them. |

Isnt the whole argument of her being a woman and running with Mcain for VP kinda contradictory. I thought this country was past the whole discrimination thing, if we are going to make a big deal of her being a woman then why dont we start singling out other people? should'nt we see her just as a canidate not a "Woman" or a "Man" or "Black" "White" "Old" "Young" "Rich" "Poor" I dont think that these matter things matter in a canidate, what really maters is their political position on topics and economic standards. Who cares if she is a woman, good for her , many many other women are in positions of power. I dont think that we should even bring up that Obama is "Black" or that Sarah Palin is a "Woman" or that Mcain is "Old" I think that those things are frivoulus to this election and politics in genereal.
Just some of my thoughts. |
