because you can win multiple times. i don't know if it's the individuals are sue happy or if 'ambulance chasing' lawyers find easy suckers on both sides of the legal fence. either way, it seems like individual vs. cooperation law suits and patent violation suits are on the rise due to out of court settlements and thus people see it as a way of easy money.

Are we forgetting potential 1st Amendment issues? TMN, the Supreme Court has protected all nondangerous speech.

No, you're right. Factus and I are right there with you earlier in the thread, though.

Free speech litigation is contentious, and there's a lot of subtleties about free speech in the opinions, but by and large speech that does not pose a clear and present danger is tolerated. There are exceptions for obscenity, but they have consistently been pushed back (for example, James Joyce's Ulysses and Henry Miller's Tropic of Cancer were, at one time, banned in the United States). Speech that deals with philosophical and political ideas is particularly carefully protected, and more is tolerated when the subject is overtly political than might be otherwise (witness the fact that burning the American flag continues to be a legal form of protest).

It is a get rich quick scheme. The suer is hoping to get an easy payoff.

(Not all, there are legitimate cases out there, but ones like this are just schemes.)

I say he's over-reacting.

The word 'homosexual" was not coined until the 1880's by a German man, and it was called homosexualitat.

So yeah, they changed it, oh well.

Not every Bible says that, and it's not the publisher's fault people believed it.

Is he going to sue every pastor and preacher that has a sermon about homosexuality as a sin?

I hope he loses.

I hate to break it to all the Christian homosexuals we have on ADISC, but your religion doesn't accept homosexuality, no matter which way the Bible's interpreted.

According to Christianity: Homosexuality goes against the natural order created by God. God created Adam and Eve, not Adam and Joe. God has created this and what God creates is right. I hope the man loses and the Bible companies win. Although I, personally, am horrified by the Bible, the Bible companies have a right to publish the Bible in any way they want. And just because the Bible hurt the guy's feelings doesn't mean he can sue them for thousands of dollars. Give me a break. I might as well just sue everyone company that makes a book I find offensive.

And by the way, I have no problem with homosexuality. I'm just pointing out what Christianity thinks of it.

Interesting, my copy of the Bible has a different version of 1 Cor. 6:9-10.

That's the standard King James version.

The New King James version changes that, and the 21st Century King James changes it back.
