Well, I hope you're right about him. We need a good president.... whoever it turns out to be. I think maybe the 2 party system needs to end though. Other parties need to become more official (for lack of a better word) and have more of a chance... then people would have more of a choice. But as it is now.... libertarian, green party, etc.... none of them have a chance.

Even if obama got elected I am willing to bet he won't pull all the troops out of iraq. Like many people before him they make promises they will NEVER keep and I think hillary and obama and everyone else saying pull the troops out never will. Of course they will just blame us republicans for that.

That probably sounds especially bad, coming from a registered republican ... but I don't know, none of these presidential candidates are suitable for me. I love this country, but this election doesn't hold any other option for me other than choosing a lesser evil, and I can't even begin to discover where that might lay. |

I just get the feeling, Chevre. To be honest, I don't think at all that I have adequate support to say, "This is why McCain is going to become a party-idealist," but if he doesn't adhere to what I believe are poor Republican values, then he's going to lose his approval rating in the office, and he's going to lose the chance to shoot ahead in the races.
Yet, Obama already has advantages in two regards, though. For one, Obama is a ****ing outstanding speaker, and has the ability to magnetize people to him with clever words and amazing improvisation. I truly believe our age hasn't seen a speaker with his ability in oratory. Secondly, he's black. "Oh my God, Rance, how can you bring his color into this!" Am I wrong, though? I think it's a wonderful possibility for the future to have a black president, but I think there are going to be lots of people who vote for him specifically because of his color, and others who don't vote for him specifically because of it, too. For McCain to possibly overcome those strengths, he's going to have to really appeal to Republicans and their values, or people are going to flop right over to Obama's side and forget that the Republican candidate actally exists. |

Well, I think he'll have to keep the party base at least a little happy (I suspect this will happen by selecting a VP who falls more closely with them), but I don't think he will have too much trouble capturing their votes. I mean, his competition is Obama, who, though he hasn't said as much, would appear to have opposing views on most issues. McCain has already been out saying he's after the so-called Reagan Democrats to vote for him, so I doubt pandering to the Republican base would help there.
As for being a great speaker, I'll agree. He is a great speaker, though I don't think that qualifies a man to be president. Hitler was also a gifted orator. My main beef with Obama is he says a lot of words, but I haven't heard him really say anything. I've heard him respond to political attacks, and to dish out some of his own.. and of course how he wants to "change" America! I'm waiting for the suspense to end when he tells us what he's going to change, other than trying to see a hasty end to the Iraq war. And that leads me to my main beef with Obama supporters. So many people seem to be giddy over Obama and are talking about how great it would be to have him as president. But, ask them to name a few issues on which they agree with him.. and you get mostly blank stares and silence. you might get the war explanation.. though it seems even Obama isn't sure that's what he wants anymore. All that said, I'm yet undecided. I hope Obama agrees to the 10 traveling debates that McCain proposed. I'd really like to hear them debate so I can get to what it is he wants to do in office. If he doesn't, I'll probably just vote McCain. |
