Even if you aren't breaking any rules, the more threads you make (especially if you're making them simply to get to the top of the Top Threadmaker list), the less people generally read your threads or give out useful replies.
A rule of thumb for myself is: "Will people really be interested in this topic? Am I asking a question that can lead to discussion or simple, one-lined answers?"
If it doesn't fit both of those criteria, I don't make the thread.
Just my point of view.
